Bad callouts, too

Its so funny how incapable Parkwood/Beyonce is to react to trends. They are always 3-4 weeks too late. I know they are fuming at how fast-paced the world has become. Slow hags

TBH, I just want her to re-release The Gift Deluxe Edition w/ 3 new tracks, 2 bonus tracks ("Shadowlands" cover, "Grown Woman"), and finally release it on CD/Vinyls. :alexz:

Project gets to 1B streams, we might get another Top 10 B200 debut week, it brings eyes back to Black Is King, and the project gets some well-needed physical sales as it has aged very well musically.

the worst thing about this is the fact we're forced to ask ourselves for at least the next year if act III will be another afrobeats album:suburban:

the cds and vinyls will actually be the physicals of The Gift she forgot to send to target and won't feature any of the new tracks. Genius!

The Lion King made so much money because the original movie was beloved and there weren't many live action remakes. People do NOT like the live action remakes now, the little mermaid couldnt even get $600 million.

I don't see this movie making more than the little mermaid unless it is REALLY good.

Despite all the hate, the movie kept breaking records every week and went on to become top10 all time grossing movie. Movies that are divisive don't have such longevity. I'm more inclined to say, people loved it but the minority that hated it was just extremely loud. Also this has the best opening date.

I politely disagree.

The Little Mermaid did well for what it was against. See: disgusting racism.

That film didn't even open wide in some of the traditionally biggest regions for Disney (like East Asia) because the racists literally were brazen about their disdain for a Black Ariel. Major publications didn't even disguise the issue either:

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/box-office-the-little-mermaid-gets-doused-in-china-south-korea-after-racist-backlash-1235505682/

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/jun/09/the-little-mermaid-global-backlash-black-ariel

Also, we need to strip "feeling" and "Twitter discourse from the fiscal reality of these reboots.

I don't especially care for them either (and would prefer new stories and IPs), but they have two central functions:

1) introduce classic, key stories to a new demo. Disney cannot bank on Millennials or even Gen-Z being their ever and always audience. They need their key stories "refreshed" for the next gens on the come up. Those old, flat 2d cartoons were only going to hold up for so long.

2) Nostalgia is big business. There was ALWAYS going to more another Lion King when the 2019 film did over $1.5 billion worldwide. The execs literally wouldn't even bat an eyelid at social media discourse or so-so reviews when the numbers and the $$$ are the primary language they speak.

The movie did great bc of the nostalgia and Lion King being the best disney movie of all time. The biggest critique of the movie outside of the movement of the animals was Beyonce's voice acting.

If she wants to focus on all these other endeavors like Rihanna please let me know. I'm tired of her only releasing music to ignore it right after release.

but that's because of the title The Lion King who had a ton of excellent promo (trailer debuted at superbowl). This is Mufasa and won't have the same pulling power

Disney's box office has been in a severe decline especially with their live action remakes, post-covid numbers are also in the dumps.

I'll be glad to be proven wrong but seeing as the little mermaid couldnt gross $600 million worldwide, I just don't see it for mufasa

Little mermaid did get A LOT of racist backlash especially in Asia. China completely ignored it, which is the second biggest box office. It bombed profusely bc of race. Had china supported it like they did Lion King it would have already grossed 1 billion.

Its quite ironic how we complained about the thread being dead and now being full on hate-mode because she dropped some new news we didnt expect.

True, but China seems to have been ignoring a majority of US films lately as well, I dont see this one getting picked up there

But people still love the Lion King brand. And Mufasa and Simba and the whole family will all be there. Disney will make sure that their big IP smashes again and the promo will be next level

Continuation is unnecessary.

But happy for Blue!

I'm here for some afrobeat with Tyla.
