QueenBLadyG Posted April 8 Posted April 8 CC is her best album by far and I can't believe I'm saying that. She keeps outdoing herself and challenging her abilities. So thankful for her and her artistry. 3
Cbreezy Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Unpopular Tidal hot take... Granted the launch was a botched, miscalculated mess, I will continue to applaud Jay for wanting in on the streaming market and the overall idea of pushing for better artist royalties. Centering that as the frontwards-facing narrative to the consumer was a big misstep (as well as not having any other USP). The irony is that it's exactly the discourse (royalties) that has clouded streaming as a means of consumption up til this day (as artists still make next to nothing from actual music). That said, and maybe hindsight is 20/20, but when it comes to Bey and Tidal...what exactly was she meant to do? Her and Jay present as this industry power couple. United front, titans, etc. There is no conceivable way her man would put his name to a streaming platform he OWNS and SHE as his right hand is gonna throw her then-new album Lemonade up on all rival services at the exact time platforms exclusives were a "thing" and at a time when Tidal was taking a battering in the press. Like, while there's a wholly logical/commercial justification for her doing so (as we went on to see with her rocky/lagging entry into streaming), the easiest way to make it make sense is to personalize it to you and your loved one. I just don't see m/any of us not backing our bae's ish to the fullest. Even if to the detriment of one's own ish. Bey stood on (family) business and anything but doing that would have been bad optically for what she and Jay have built with the "Carter" brand. There's for sure a fair argument about it being smarter for Bey and Jay to keep their business and musical entities as separate as possible (like the pre-marriage days), but I just don't see how there was any feasible way for that with Tidal given how intertwined they've become. (Though I do feel she took it too far with the "in perpetuity" declaration about Lemonade never come to other services and doubling down in lyrics. Team too much lol) I dunno but I overall just feel I have a very "Bey's story had to play out exactly as is for her to be where she is and who she is" outlook on her career and choices. And that even accounts for the outright mistakes and moves she made that I wasn't the biggest fan of. 1
ScorpiosGroove Posted April 8 Posted April 8 tidal failed bc its whole thing was a bunch of billionaires crying about not getting enough money they would've done a lot better and would have a bigger (albeit more niche) audience if they highlighted and pushed the audiophile pleasing side and their great sound quality instead 1
Shelter Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Lemonade is one of her best albums, that doesn't mean it has to be your fav. People need to learn the difference. When I go back to it, I get reminded how good it is. 4

Space&Time Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Good morning Beyhive ☀️ Bless the day! Beyoncé Giselle Knowles Carter is still breaking records, ceilings, and haters feelings 27 years into her career. Cowboy Carter, let's strike a match and light up this Juke Joint! 1

It's always so low on the Hive's rankings and the recurrent streams aren't that great. I blame the Tidal exclusive. I feel like people always bashed it since it's release, it still remains her magnum opus to any critic that matters so it's whatever.

Yes, Tidal's whole "we're not getting enough royalties" angle was extremely ill-judged as a "selling point" to a GP who could only dream of having a fraction of each artist's net worth. However, I don't think the "superior sound" / audiophile angle was compelling in any way either. At least not to the extent of basing its unique selling point on that (second to the royalty thing) Call me basic, but I rarely hear the difference when listening to music across the different platforms. I always felt Tidal missed the mark by not positioning itself as a music streaming service AND some kind of visual platform. Pretty sure it was not long after it launched that Netflix made all this noise about bringing a bunch of Black TV shows to its service. Imagine an Urban-leaning streaming service also being home to a bunch of shows "we" love that weren't available to stream at the time. Martin, Girlfriends, The Parkers, and.....new original programming. Looking at it through a video games lens (stay with me lol), it's like being a Nintendo. Rather than trying to compete with Playstation and Xbox by doing the exact thing they are doing, it's more a case of carving out one's own original niche lane and snatching market share and managing to co-exist that way.
Virgos Groove Posted April 8 Posted April 8 (edited) The thing is: time has proven Tidal right. They do pay more than other streaming services, and having a service owned by artists (even if it's only the top ones) is ultimately a good thing. The problem is that, if it's already hard enough to make people care about the perceived value of music, it's pretty much impossible when you have a bunch of gazillionaire musicians talking about "egoless collaborations" and looking like they're about to renew the Illuminatti constitution. The exclusives only helped sour people on the concept. Edited April 8 by Virgos Groove 1

Kristie Kuwa Posted April 8 Posted April 8 No Tidal discourse allowed in 2024, ok FAGUETTES? Thats some demonic thing of the past that should be left sealed and forgotten. We are successful now, lets keep the thing that almost made us lose our minds in the goddamn past 3

I think we can call this a WIN 2
