I know Moana is a huge IP for Disney and is one of their most popular movies on Disney+ (first movie did $687M at the box office too), but does it appeal to adults like Frozen did? I'm not a Disney girlie so idk lol. It will definitely take a good chunk of the "families taking their under 10 children to the movies" audience though. Moana is HUGEEE, I have friends that are like 20-25 and they love it, its a movie that will cater to old-young audiences for nostalgia, girls and gays who saw it when they were 10-16 will watch it, and kids will watch it with their parents, also Moana is like the biggest movie ever on Disney Plus, its always topping the streaming charts from the platform unless the movie sucks, it will smash like Inside Out 2, sequel from a moderate smash that gained a following after release and does better at the box office I see Wicked doing +500M (a litlle better than Wonka), pleasing the fanbase, getting a cute 75% on RT, and winning awards for costume design, hair, make up, etcetera, but not acting

Saintlor Posted October 8 Posted October 8 (edited) Just listening to Love Me Harder. Her voice sounded so incredible back then and I loved her riffs too. Does anyone know what happened to her tone. Something shifted around the Save Your Tears remix and from then onwards, her tone just isn't as pretty anymore. I still love her singing, but it doesn't hit the same way for me. Does anyone else feel the same / does anyone know what happened? She sounds much clearer now, but I feel like her tone just isn't as nice. Edited October 8 by Saintlor 1

Her tone has changed for a few reasons, some of which include learning to sing in a healthier placement, re-training her voice for Glinda, and aging (especially if you're comparing vocals on songs she would've recorded at 20/21 vs. at 30). The difference in tone is mostly noticeable on studio recordings. Significant (possibly all?) chunks of Eternal Sunshine were written and recorded during the writer's strike, so she would've been in full 'Glinda' mode. Her tone on studio recordings definitely sounds airier and crisper now, but I prefer the fuller/lush tone of SWT/TUN/POS. I do think she's starting to get her "pop Ariana" style back - her Met gala performance and the live sessions of ES sound straight from the 'Sweetener World Tour'. 2

I kind of feel the same, I still love her voice but her tone doesn't sound as "smooth" as it used to, especially when she singing in her head voice. I don't know, maybe it's because she overused it acting like Glinda 24/7 but something definitely has changed. Her tone sounds much better when she sings in her chest register imo (or a mix of chest and head) like during her SNL performance of WCBF (example here) which makes it better than the studio version for me. Wow she sounds exactly out of ME era during that part. It's almost nostalgic to hear. We need Eternal Sunshine (Ariana's Old Vocals Version). I wonder if the enunciation criticism got to her too much and she's trying too hard to sound clear and it's been at the expense of how nice her voice sounds I miss how beautiful her voice sounds during songs like Touch It... she really was so refreshing in the pop scene for bringing such a pretty voice like that Edited October 9 by Saintlor 2

She lowkey sounds tired or worn out on the studio recording of ES. Her voice is noticeably thinner and airy, but I think it's a stylistic choice more than anything. ES is a more narrative-driven album. She's the solo lyricist on almost all the tracks and I think she wanted the lyrics to be the focal point, which is why her vocals seem to be "muted" compared to her previous albums. I also think this is her least vocally interesting album? She's not doing any vocal gymnastics and the vocal layering is basically non-existent. Compared to Positions, for example, where she is building entire instrumentation segments with just her voice, ES feels comparatively sparse. It's a weird juxtaposition because she sounds amazing (i.e., better) live than on the studio version. Her belts are full, resonant, and well-supported. Her head voice even sounds more dynamic and fluid, and the adlibs she does make the production feel fuller all around. 2
R.E.M. Posted October 9 Author Posted October 9 but also maybe our girl was tired with months of rehearsals with heavy choreo/dance sequences, filming two movies at once, going through a divorce, getting ripped apart by the media, and the stress of the writer's strike, I wouldn't be surprised. They also wrote and recorded the album really fast. 3

Aristocrat Posted October 13 Posted October 13 She was SO good on SNL tonight. I really don't think Wicked is gonna be a one off thing tbh, I feel like it's really about to launch her into a serious acting career and she's gonna do a string of movie roles and maybe some type of TV comedy, and without a doubt a leading gig on Broadway. Her talents are too wide ranging to just be a pop girly for the rest of her career. 2

I would love that tbh, I'm excited to see her on Wicked because apparently Glinda is funny, but I would love to see her on an actual comedy. 2

Her talents are too wide ranging to just be a pop girly for the rest of her career. I wouldn't mind it either way tbh. It's okay if she goes back to her musical career only, but I also wouldn't mind if she did more acting. The only thing I would be afraid of if she does more movies is that she would leave her music behind. Gaga has been focusing on acting only and she hasn't released a studio album in almost 5 years now. I would be scared that the same thing would happen to Ariana. I mean if it wasn't for that strike in Hollywood, we may have never gotten Eternal Sunshine. The strike was the only reason she flew back and got motivated again to do music. Then again, I would rather have her do something than nothing at all. I would love for her to have a role in the Hercules live action remake though. She would be amazing as Megara. 3
ariananext Posted October 13 Posted October 13 I usually cringe hard at SNL sketches cause I don't really get that humour, but I loved some of them tonight! The bachelorette one and the best friend's house one were my favourite. She did amazing! 1
laqqinq Posted October 13 Posted October 13 She was great on SNL and with a more carefree attitude, it seemed. Idk about anyone of you all, but lately to me it has felt like she has been pretty uptight or gets too serious at times to be "taken seriously" or be seen neutrally by the public. Like sometimes it feels like she behaves like herself but in a more careful way, maybe its because she might feel concerned—or overthunk to not "have too much fun"—about how the public views her after last year's "scandal". And I'm not saying she's like that all the time. But it has been nice to see her be more chill and light lately. She has been at it with this movie, its press, the album, and stuff nonstop. So I hope she takes a nice break after the movie is out (and press tour is done) cause that can take a toll on you, if you don't take adequate rest, which I hope she is taking. I think after the press tour, she will be more visible again for awards campaign(ing) and maybe ES deluxe will be released after 1 year anniversary or summer 2025. She should not rush the deluxe though, I think. The era has already got legs. So I would personally like a deluxe in the (early or late) summer next year, before she goes into Wicked Part 2 mode in the fall. 2
ariananext Posted October 13 Posted October 13 I think she has a hard time relaxing when she's under the spotlight, feels like she's always scared to be misunderstood like it has happened in the past. I think the more she does stuff the more at ease she will feel with doing promo! 1
