TruGemini Posted February 17, 2022 Author Posted February 17, 2022 19 hours ago, TruGemini said: As aforementioned, risk taking is the theme of the round! Welcome to Round 11, Risky Business! @kipperskipper @Opulent @Psycho @Not Like The Movies @Thanatos @touya kinomoto @wehavetostan @Luckitty @99sandthe2000s @DevonRoars@Galactic @CBC For Round Eleven, Risky Business, we want you to highlight the BIGGEST risks of your celebrities careers. These don't have to be inherently controversial, nor do they have to have been successful risks, but they do have to be something that stands out for them. This is similar to the Crackt round, but there is one MAJOR difference. This should not be completely out of character for your artist, nor something that's just batshit insane (yes, I'm talking to you Azealia), but it should be a deviation from their typical brand. Think along the lines of Kesha releasing Praying or Kelly Rowland releasing Dirty Laundry. The categories are: Acting (judged by @dweebz) - Submit an acting clip that best represents the theme, Risky Business. Moment (judged by @Yvess) - Submit a moment in your artists career that best represents the theme, Risky Business. This is not to be a song, acting performance, or live musical performance. Short descriptions are required for this category. Live Performance (judged by @Speezy) - Submit a live performance that best represents the theme, Risky Business. The Deadline for Round Eleven is February 17th, 8:30 PM EST. An extension has been requested. The new deadline is midnight tonight.
Not Like The Movies Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 sent one of the most successful musical risks, an undeniable serve!

TruGemini Posted February 18, 2022 Author Posted February 18, 2022 Let's see how risky you all got! But first... It's a blast from the past this week! Lana Del Rey has used her advantage, Diana's Slippers, to temporarily change their artist to... Spoiler Lady Gaga! Additionally, Cardi B has used her advantage, Diana's Slippers, to change her artist to... Spoiler Janet Jackson! Welcome back ladies, let's get to our entries! Acting Zendaya as Rue Bennett in Euphoria Notes on Risky Business: While Euphoria isn't Zendaya's first role following her departure from the Disney franchise it is the project that is the most unique and unexpected in her career and has cemented her as an actress capable of carrying a successful television series. The portrayal of a unstable, drug addicted teenager navigating grief and a chaotic life, an intense role which has earned her a Emmy award as well as significant praise and critical acclaim. Her intense and devastating portrayal of addiction was a risky move in her acting career that has proven to be successful and demonstrates her growth and capabilities as a rising star in Hollywood. *** Bebe Rexha as Tempe Tina in Queenpins "Bebe took a risk by stepping outside of her comfort zone and making her acting debut while her music career was falling apart which is a risky move for someone like Bebe. Bebe's character Tempe Tina was also taking a risk by hacking the government " *** Azealia Banks as Coco Ford in Love Beats Rhymes Azealia's acting debut in Love Beats Rhymes has been one of the biggest risks in her career since acting is a deviation from her typical brand. According to Variety : "Azealia's debut isn’t a mic drop. But it’s enough to make us curious to hear from her again" AB plays Coco Ford a struggling rapper who goes on a journey of discovery that takes her through rap clubs and poetry slams, leading her to find her true voice - and true love. This clip showcases the chemistry between Coco and her lover Derek. *** Ariana Grande as Cat Valentine in Victorious *** Mariah Carey as Billie Frank in Glitter I’ve submitted a scene from Glitter for this round because the entire movie was a risk for Mariah. She had very little previous acting experience at this point, and this was her making her debut as a lead actress in a major film. It was a risk since it was something she had never done before, and it could have been either very beneficial or very detrimental to her overall career. I chose this scene specifically, where Billie receives a note from and reunites with her birth mother shortly after her boyfriend is murdered, since it’s one of the more emotional scenes that demands more from her as an actress. *** Lady Gaga as Ally Maine in A Star Is Born The reason I feel this was a big risk for Lady Gaga, is because she is known for her outlandish fashion, music videos, performances and being a pop star. A Star is Born was Gaga's first major movie role, and the character Ally was someone who is quite the contrast to who we know Lady Gaga as. Ally is much more of a "normal" person, so it was refreshing to see Gaga in that light. This performance was a risk because Lady Gaga never ventured out to acting on this magnitude and this movie could have been a serious flop and the end to an acting career. But instead, it turned out to be a huge career move and one of her biggest surges in her career, earning her various prestigious award nominations including the coveted Oscar nomination for Best Actress. Moment The Release of Beyonce ~ Beyonce On December 13th, 2013, Beyoncé dropped her self titled album in the form of a surprise drop. On releasing this album, she also released a music video for every song. The album was also released on a Friday which was the last 3 days of the tracking week at that time. The album sold 800k+ in just 3 days! This album was definitely a risk because prior to this monumental moment, she traditionally released studio albums by releasing singles, having preorders for albums and doing full fledged eras before putting out the album. This album had only 3 days of the tracking week to gain traction and no singles or traditional promo before its release, for someone who is usually a big seller like Bey, she knew that this was a complete risk because commercial and critical success was uncertain due to it being a complete surprise. She knew the risk of such venture however the album became very successful, critically acclaimed and has been extremely culturally impactful, this album is known as the musical release to change the tracking week beginning from a Monday to a Friday. No one surprised dropped like this before her. Nowadays when someone surprise drops, people usually refer to it as "Pulling a Beyoncé". This self titled album was undoubtedly a huge moment and everyone was freaking out. Incontestably a pivotal moment in her career as a musical icon and legend. Beyoncé took a huge risk and evidently it paid off. Period. *** The Release of Impossible Princess ~ Kylie Minogue Impossible Princess, Kylie's sixth studio album, is perhaps the most unique album in Kylie's discography. Conceived as an experimental record, the album encompasses a variety of darker styles from the dance genre, including trip hop, electronica, and rock. Upon its release, critical and public reception of Impossible Princess was divided over its new musical direction and Minogue's very intimate lyrics. In retrospect, described as an underrated release, the record has achieved widespread critical acclaim and Minogue's creative input and its mixture of genres have been widely praised. Despite this, Minogue has said she will never create another studio album of personal songs like Impossible Princess. *** The Witness Worldwide Event ~ Katy Perry I'm sending in parts of Katy's 96-hour live stream which was a part of her promo for her fourth studio album, Witness. It was full of iconic moments and interviews where we got some iconic memes and also a deeper look into the life of an A-list celebrity. It was quite an unprecedented form of promotion at the time. *** The Release of Sex ~ Madonna In 1992, Madonna releases her own book titled Sex. The book consists of sexually explicit and provocative images. The press panned the book and it invoked negative criticism from critics, conservatives, feminists and anti-porn groups. At the time, people said she had went too far, that she was desperate to shock and that it was the end of her career. But the book went on to sell more than 1 million copies, setting the record for the largest first printing of an illustrated book in publishing history. Live Performance Janet's Superbowl Performance From 7:30 to the end of the video, Janet takes total control of the stage. Although Janet had sexual themes in her music before, her breast being shown at the end of the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show was a major risk. Unfortunately, Janet's career did suffer after the shocking performance. She was blacklisted from the radio and banned from the Grammys, despite her fellow halftime performer, Justin Timberlake, being allowed to attend the ceremony. The performance gave birth to YouTube. *** Rihanna's What's My Name Performance And with that, Rihanna and Cardi B have claimed safety due to Live Performance being the category with the lowest entrants. Congrats! @Speezy @dweebz @Yvess

Luckitty Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 not me submitting in the acting category thinking it'd be empty but it ended up having the most entries rip
99sandthe2000s Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 lol I wasn't expecting the Acting category to be this stacked but I'm confident in my submission!
DevonRoars Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 I've never seen Euphoria, but Zendaya killed -- but that pharmacy scene where she was stealing drugs was painfully unrealistic

Yvess Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 (edited) RISKY BUSINESS Beyoncé @Not Like The Movies This definitely fits the brief! I can still remember how it shook me and the whole music industry. Great job! Kylie Minogue @Psycho Yas! I agree that this is the most risque era of Kylie! I love this era of hers. Great job! Katy Perry @touya kinomoto Oh wow. This is definitely an epitome of Risky Business! It can also be taken as the beginning of an end for Queen Katy but I find this step from her really fun and unique! Great job! Madonna @CBC SLAY! Considered to be forbidden at that time and reinvented the wheel for next generations of pop stars, this really fits the theme of this round effortlessly. This is so hard to place a winner and a loser because four of you really did a great job. I'm just gonna rank it to the most fave to least fave of mine. @TruGemini Edited February 20, 2022 by Yvess
