For starters, I don't think she's "forgotten," nor do I think her music is "dated," especially for a generation supposedly obsessed with the 90s! But she is definitely not discussed or mentioned as much as some of her contemporaries. Although, it does seem like those who have been vocal about that have caused that to change somewhat. I became a fan of Janet's in 93 when the janet. album came out. A user in here said that her following was mostly in the Black community and I can tell you that isn't true. People of all races loved Janet. Perhaps it doesn't seem that way today, but trust me, as someone who was obsessed with her back then, she was loved by everybody! Even in 2001 when All For You came out, she was very relevant with kids who liked Britney, Christina, NSync, etc. The Superbowl did result in a blacklist that effected the Damita Jo and 20 YO albums, but people forget that it ended by the time Discipline came out. She was on TRL in 2008 for the entire hour and performed Feedback. MTV even made her Artist of the Month and she did a bunch of commercials parodying their reality shows like The Real World, My Super Sweet 16, etc. I think the decline in quality from her musically was a major factor, because she could've made a comeback. Feedback was a huge hit and buzz was high for the Discipline album. It debuted at #1 on Billboard 200, her first since All For You. Unfortunately, the rest of the album just wasn't very good. She had no chemistry with Jermaine Dupri in the studio and he wrecked not only Discipline, but 20 YO as well. 20 YO was overproduced and Discipline was boring. Janet didn't even write any songs on Discipline. It felt like she wasn't very inspired. There's also a lack of interest coming from her today. It took her 7 years after Discipline to make a new album and since then, she's released only one other song. Yes, she makes appearances here and there. Yes, she performs on occasion. But she's nowhere near as active as Madonna and Mariah. Plus, they have very different personalities. They put themselves out there whereas Janet doesn't. Janet is more introverted and quiet. Mariah milks the Christmas thing every year and Madonna is always touring, releasing music, collabing with younger artists, posting on Instagram, doing livestreams with TikTokers, etc. Her YouTube channel is a mess and she seems to have a team who are inept at managing a social media/streaming presence for an artist in today's world. At the end of the day, anybody who just blames the Super Bowl is offering too simplified of a reason.

These are just early predictions. The lead actually isn't that far from Industry Baby. Later predictions could show something different. Regardless, Lil Nas X has THREE songs in the top 10 this week. And since Industry Baby was released, he's had TWO songs in either the top 10 or top 20. He's doing ****ing amazing.

So apparently, what we've learned from this is: 1. Lil Nas X only has Black fans. 2. Black people don't buy vinyl. And this is based on: 1. Absolutely nothing. Okay. Got it.

Oh please, can we stop with this nonsense already? Stop acting like Nas doesn't have a "sizeable dedicated fanbase." He absolutely does. Artists without "sizeable dedicated fanbases" are releasing physical albums. The irrelevancy of it all.

Olivia Rodrigo has her album available on vinyl, CD, and TWO different cassettes. Billie Eilish has several different vinyl, CDs, cassettes, and box sets of her latest album. Gen Z era artists still produce physical copies and there are still plenty of fans who value them. Lil Nas X has been dominating the charts this year with his singles. If Olivia can have several physical editions of her album made, so can Lil Nas X.

I can name a bunch of top-selling female artists whose career have been described as a "gimmick" for doing similar things. That's no reason to not release this guy's debut album in physical formats. He has had more than one hit single from this album before it was even released. The reason his streaming numbers do so well is because he has FANS who enjoy his music, beyond the so-called "gimmick." Those numbers wouldn't be that high with the general public alone. He has a very large fanbase. Therefore, it makes no sense whatsoever for this album to not have any physical format released so far.

So does Lil Nas X. Just because this is his debut album, doesn't mean a physical copy isn't necessary yet. Finneas has had his debut album up for pre-order in CD and vinyl since August. Sure, he's Billie Eilish's brother, but that doesn't mean there's more demand for his debut album in a physical format than Lil Nas X.

To all of you saying "Was it worth it?" Don't act like your favorite main pop girls don't pull attention-seeking antics left and right. Don't act like they never take their clothes off or show some skin. Don't act like they're never sexually provocative. Don't act like they haven't sold albums with a price discount, bundled them with concert tickets, and wore crazy outfits. You're just mad when a gay man does it. This thread reeks of double standards and internalized homophobia. A number 2 album is still very successful. Madonna's Ray of Light album peaked at number 2. Have several seats.

Ariana is a streaming artist too and she releases physicals. The man is only on his DEBUT album. It's not fair to underestimate him in the physical format. He has more than a few stans and they would happily buy his physical albums. Especially considering how strong of a comeback vinyl has made recently. Plus, he could've sold signed copies like lots of artists have been doing lately. There are a lot of people who would've loved that.

Is there a possibility physicals could be released early next week? Would that give him a possibility of reaching number 1?

THIS is why I didn't understand the complete LACK of physical albums up to this point. He could've easily got to #1 is he just put CDs and VINYLS up for pre-order.
