M.I.A. : "Beyonce became a billionaire on the back of activism"
some points may have been made, but watching M.I.A become a talking head for right-wing pundits/podcast bros in real time is kinda insane

Lana is more relevant and successful now than 10 years ago. What went right?
she had a captivating debut (albeit with its fair share of controversies). I think at the time she was able to fill a sort of "alt" girl niche that a lot of girls and gays gravitated to during a musical landscape that was heavily saturated by your more conventional pop girls, so she built a dedicated fanbase from the start. she always stood firm in her artistic vision/decisions and continued to cultivate her craft with every release. NFR! was the clearest demonstration of her having won over the respect of publications and critics that used to drag her through the dirt. I think she also benefitted from doing other engagements and projects outside of her releases that helped boost her profile and expand her reach (movie soundtracks, brand campaigns, etc.) she's just THAT legend

BANKS starts teasing new era
I didn't realize how deep the Slurpentina hate went deserved I think she should have a slight "return to roots" moment with her next project. my growing problem with her is that she tries to position herself as this edgy artist but then the music never really delivers like it should.

St. Vincent - 'All Born Screaming'
I knew somebody would try this. notice how I said I was going to reserve further judgment until I hear the song. but yes, I would say naming SOPHIE and then describing the exact manner in which she died is just categorically pretty literal (once again, I said "literal" not good nor bad).

St. Vincent - 'All Born Screaming'
I guess I'll wait to hear the entire context of the song before forming a judgment on the SOPHIE lyrics, but I really didn't expect them to be so... literal?

St. Vincent - "Big Time Nothing"
strange mercy girl you're in danger!
-
St. Vincent - "Big Time Nothing"
don't get me wrong, his work on Masseduction was excellent. but it's clear from the early reception of a certain someone's album that he's reached a brick wall. it was time for her to take the reins back. this sound suit her so well
-
St. Vincent - "Big Time Nothing"
she had to get j*** a******* out and show him how it's really done
-
St. Vincent - "Big Time Nothing"
out 4/23. looks like the final single before the album is released sounds like a banger too oh Annie don't serve like this
-
St. Vincent - 'All Born Screaming'
another banger incoming oh Annie don't serve like this
-
Doja Cat - "Demons"
yeah... this kinda ranks among her worst for me. the beat/production KNOCKS but that's the only saving grace. the cringe rapping voice, little to no bars, no real mission statement other than "clapping back" at controversy that she's been playing an active part in stirring up as of late. she might hate or diss her previous music, but she was honestly giving us more personality and bars back when she was more pop than trying to do this whole "hard rap" thing (which, even then, she's not even doing) paint the town red remains the superior single but this whole rollout has just been underwhelming for me.
