RSD isn’t always an exclusive. Many artists in recent years do RSD “first” releases, which means they are released there first, and then months later they release them wide spread. I could see her do something like that.

It’s a bit of a different situation that the Lover in Paris vinyl. Those live versions are not part of the Lover album on any format. For LPSS, it’s actually part of the digital Folklore studio album. All the studio versions are there with the live versions tacked on at the end. Will be very interesting to see how BB decides to count it. What she should have done; I have a vinyl version of Fun’s “Some Nights” that includes a CD. She could have included the CD of the studio version of Folklore with the vinyl. Then as a whole it matches the streaming version and can all be counted as 1.

This might be a stupid question, but what are the chances she releases the LPSS on CD that week as well? Obviously the LPSS vinyl is a RSD exclusive VINYL, but does that stop her from selling a CD version from her website? Anyone who wants the vinyl would still need to go to a record store to get it. Just a thought…

It just got 43 adds on Pop today, so it’s clearly going to be single #3. They might as well just start pushing. im thrilled. I think it’s such a unique song for radio right now.

Counter point. Cuff it makes sense as a fall single (3rd single), summer renaissance does not. Single 2 is being released less than 2 months after BMS, single 3 is coming in Oct/Nov and Cuff It makes sense

It is strange the radio version at 2:30 is so short, but that’s kind of what most people are used to as in the show it’s a shorter version that plays… so maybe that’s why the radio version is still connecting with the audience?

I agree, a top 40 even would be nice. But I stand by my eventual Top 10, and here is why; Unlike an Oscar performance, where 20 million people hear/see a song at once, movie viewership is spread out. With an average ticket price of $10 for a movie ticket, a movie has to make $200 million for 20 million people to have seen it. Top Gun is expected to make that in its first 7 days. So while something like an Oscar performance has an immediate and substantial impact on a song, a situation like this has an immediate, slow burn, sustained impact. Radio is already on board with an audience of 20 million and growing. That will continue to grow. No sales are starting to pick up, as are YouTube streams. The best news… by Thursday if the movie is past $200 million and 20 million have seen it, there is still so much more to come! The movie reviews are 97% and this has an A+ Cinema score. People are living and connecting with the movie. It will end with an eventual $400-500 million total, or 40-50 million having seen it. so I keep saying, and so it begins, because this will be a gradual climb to greatness. And for those asking when they will release the movie version - when it’s strategic to do so. Now is not that time. Maybe Monday depending on how the song is doing at point, but maybe second week is better strategically. I am sure they are going to wait and see.

We should start seeing an effect from the movie on Tuesday, as the release kicks off with special IMAX preview shows that night, followed by more preview shows on Wednesday and Thursday before a full opening on Friday. Pre sales are huge, and it’s tracking to open with about 120 million for the full long weekend. Should create quite a nice bump for the song.

Yes, that is what the early screenings have indicated, which is also why it should have more of an impact on the audience. Maybe not “My Heart Will Go On” impact, but more than a song that is simply thrown on a soundtrack with little connection to the movie itself.

While I understand the hesitation, comparing this with Lion King doesn’t really make much sense. Beyoncé hasn’t been big on radio in years and that song really wasn’t pushed very hard to the general public, and definitely had no radio support. This song has already differentiated itself as it’s picking up on radio quickly now. It’s going to be the most added song on Pop radio and HAC for a second week in a row this week. The tracking week that ends June 2nd will include the first weekend the movie is out. That means the radio numbers on the 2nd will count that week. Today the song had 14 million radio audience, gaining 0.86 million from yesterday. At this rate, the song will be at about 30 million by June 3rd on radio, which would put it in the top 40. The song has held well in sales. It currently has two versions charting iTunes at 13/64. It’s #7 combined. That will skyrocket after the release of the movie, similar to what happened with Shallow. Streaming should also surge due to people watching and enjoying the movie. There is every reason to believe that this will have a similar trajectory as when A Star is Born opened (and shallow didn’t have a huge radio number that week cause it was only released a week before the movie came out). Perhaps I’m being optimistic, but I think I’m actually being quite realistic with top 10.

Things are shaping up very well for this song. It’s starting to take off on radio, it’s in the top 20 in sales, and the movie hasn’t even released yet. The movie is currently sitting at 97% fresh at Rotten Tomatoes and is tracking to open above $100 million over the Memorial Day long weekend. The song should see a huge boost starting on the Friday the movie releases, which coincides perfectly with the tracking week. How high will it go? That still remains to be seen, but top 10 is all but guaranteed at this point.

So since the speak now merch ships June 14th and 1989 merch ships June 30th… is that a clue?

They timed this well. Movie is released on May 27th. Radio will have a month to build, and that weekend will see a huge boost in sales and streams when the film is released, coinciding perfectly with the start o of the new tracking week (Friday). I don’t see how this misses top 10 on the Hot100, and might even score a top 5. With a likely Oscar non, that’s a pretty decent performance!

I *finally* figured out why this one sounds so familiar. The opening verse and music on this is almost identical to Sam Smith’s version of “You Will Be Found”

It’s going to end up that way one way or another. they ****** WW2 by giving it a hybrid release and bombing it’s box office. Superman needs to be rebooted at this point too (no fault of Henry), Aquaman has Amber Heard and Flash has Ezra, making the upcoming releases problematic. At this point there is very little in the DCEU that works.
