upbeat songs are definitely better for her and i wish she'd realize that the super stripped down ballads aren't her strong suit and get serious about either the rock moments like Blur and STOP or the more electronic sound of Karaoke and Tongue.

Idk, I really like Promise?. It's a well written pop-rock ballad imo.

My Reckless Abandon review

Blur - 10/10

instantly amazing, love the energy and the vibe. the guitar is so cool and great, idk what else to say but i love how her voice sounds like it matches the mood of the song perfectly.

Promise? - 9.5/10

i've loved this song since the day it came out, and i had it repeat then. i know there's technically really nothing that sets it apart from the music you'd normally hear, but it's just perfect. i especially love how the production sounds in the post-chorus. one criticism i have about the songs is the bridge lyric "you're in the rain, you're in the drink, you're in my cortisol" because of the mention of cortisol kinda takes you out of the song for a second.

Say it Say - 10/10

i love how anxious the production sounds, idk how to explain that just trust me. also love the way her vocals sound and how intense it gets near the end. the beat just sounds perfectly anxious and has such a great tone of overthinking that makes your heartbeat jump.

Karaoke - 10/10

the switches in the sound throughout it make this song so interesting and i love how the tone sounds sarcastic at points. the post chorus is so good and sorta feels like a haze? absolute banger. she really just needed to tell whoever this guy was how she felt tho cuz why so many songs about her wanting to **** her friend. also love the vocal production choice in the bridge, probably the most sonically interesting on the whole album. some of her songs keep the same production going the whole time and this takes twists consistently. "we could last forever if we never go home" also feels like a great way to encapsulate the feeling of this song. also love how it actually tells us the ending of the story where she sees that it was all pointless, because promise? and blur don't tell us what happens and never give us the payoff of her longing.

iloveitiloveitiloveit - 8/10

a good song, but it can be a bit uninteresting. i like how it sees a messy/toxic relationship as something fun instead of being just another ballad where the girl wonders why the guy doesn't want her or why he treats her a way, but it could've been expressed better. "i like being used, it means i have a purpose" feels too blunt and doesn't work that well as the opening line for the song. the bridge also confuses me because it tells us that the relationship is over but she wants to go back into it, but the rest of the lyrics treat it like this is a current relationship.

STOP - 9.5/10

so so good and fun, the guitar sounds really clean and interesting. also the vocals are perfect because they're so perfectly done where they sorta sound like she's half-joking to add to the unserious mood of the song. one thing i don't like about the song is the outro because it feels just a bit corny and it definitely could've been left out. the "like your spotify" lyric also could've been replaced with something else in my opinion, but at the end of the day i'm not the artist.

swu - 6/10

the production being so bare with her vocals being duplicated/the background vocals being so loud is a big contrast and feels weird, she should've either done it completely stripped back or made it have more going on production-wise and keep the vocal duplication. this one isn't very interesting, but it's still a nice song. the idea of it could've been expressed better.

Sleep For Dinner - 6.5/10

her voice sounds really different here, and the production is actually very interesting and i like how they didn't make it lazy and boring like swu where it's just the guitar. the lyrics are a unique topic, her vocals are kinda iffy in places and she could've worked on her voice more before recording this song, even if it was added for raw emotion or something, it doesn't sound that great. i also don't like how she basically says the same thing twice in the end, "when it gets real bad i just go to sleep / sometimes i eat sleep for dinner."

mindfuck - 10/10

really refreshing to get something that instantly clicked for me after the last two songs, i really like the lyrics too because it's such a perfect expression of the desperation of not even needing to be chosen, just needing to be considered. i also love how the instrumental sounds in the second chorus, sort of reminds me of the cure by oliviq. i would've chosen a different title for the song, but i could get behind it if the titular lyric was "i'd rather be the one in your mind than the one thats you ****," instead of "the one that you want," but it's still a great song.

tongue  - 8/10

the intro immediately makes the song feel interesting. the song has a lot of potential to be amazing, but it feels like they almost got lazy with the production. it doesn't sound like it was fully finished, like there's something missing from the song. the chorus is insanely catchy and has been stuck in my head ever since the snippet. very think later by tate coded. the second verse feels very jarring going into the next pre-chorus. the production could've been handled better, there's moments like the intro/second pre-chorus/bridge where it gets interesting, but also moments like the verses and the chorus where it feels like it wasn't really done. i really enjoy her vocals in the final chorus. the outro with the orchestra doesn't feel necessary for this song.

marrow - 5/10

this is the only song on the album that doesn't really have anything interesting about it for me. the orchestration feels really unneeded, and the production isn't very intriguing. i like the lyric "i'm loyal to the bone but i guess marrow isn't good enough" but nothing else really stands out about this one. it's not bad, just not intriguing. i actually think a cool approach for this song is to have it be like the outro where it's just bare acapella but really edited and synth-y and stuff.

A Father's Lament - 10/10

the instrumentation feels kinda country, and i love the storytelling. a very good song and her songwriting is strong here, especially compared to other songs on the album. a beautiful song, and while Bella gets emotional a lot, she never really talks about her past, so it's interesting to get a new idea from her.

i deserve better. - 8/10

a really good song, the first verse lyrics are kind of weak but it gets better after. i love how the production sounds, it seems like there's this nice effect on it. kinda like the aftermath of iloveitiiloveitiloveit which is satisfying. gets really repetitive at points. i love how the outro sounds like everything is collapsing which is a great way to end the album, the sudden silence also adds to it.

OVERALL

85/100 - she could definitely improve her vocals and songwriting, but it is her debut album so i'm not gonna overly criticize her on those. at times the lyrics can feel very tiktok type songwriting, and i hope she realizes that the upbeat songs are her strong suit instead of the ballads even though her fanbase praises the more boring songs. karaoke is definitely my favorite, but blur and stop are also there. not anything too negative to say, very solid especially for a first album. definitely a huge growth from her debut ep which was very uninteresting and just felt like another singer-songwriter thing. i would like for her to primarily stick to one sound, not every song sounding the same, but this album isn't very cohesive. on her second album, she should work more on actually finding an idea for the project. the title and the cover of the album also aren't that great, but i suppose you can't really figure out what to call an album when there's not a clear direction it's going in? a lot of the songs feel like demos and could've been worked on more, there are definitely things i would change about this mixtape/playlist album.

i think my strongest criticisms about the album are

  • her songwriting feels extremely straight forward and blunt. to me, most of the lyrics read like texts she would send to her best friend that she compiled or something like that. she has great ideas at times but delivers them in a way that makes them sound shallow and not worth talking about (iloveitiloveitiloveit, swu, sleep for dinner, marrow.) she definitely needs to improve her lyrical abilities before putting out another project. this is hard to explain, but the lyrics feel VERY tiktok at times. like the corny cringey teenage girls on tiktok who use gifs of celebrities crying under posts about someone's kid dying and think hit me hard and soft was good.

  • there is not a sound to this album. albums can explore different realms and still feel cohesive, but this just feels like her playing around and it not really fitting. my guess is that she was trying to take inspiration from too many artists at once and it all blurred (no pun intended) and didn't really sound like there was any identity.

  • on the topic of the sound, a lot of the songs are great, but sound like a v2 maybe. they definitely could've worked on the album's production more. talking completely about the instrumentation alone, there are songs like Blur / Say it Say / Karaoke / STOP / Sleep For Dinner / A Father's Lament where it feels very complete and like they really cared about the song, but the other half of the album feels unfinished. my guess is that she's too confident and good is good enough, and if she likes what she has, she doesn't feel the need to change it at all.

  • just like the album doesn't have a clean sound, there's also not really a clean concept. not every song has to be about the same topic, that would actually be quite boring, but she needs to have an actual idea for her next project. it can be a basic one with a wide umbrella that still fits, like YSPSFAGSIL or Red or Speak Now, but i think she needs to just know what she wants to do.

what i would change about each song that i feel is imperfect

  • Promise? - remove the cortisol lyric

  • iloveitiloveitiloveit - add more to the production, could hit harder with a pop rock production. doesn't need to be super heavy, just needs more going on. i would also change the opening lyric of the song and either remove or rewrite the bridge's lyrics.

  • STOP - take away the talking outro and change the Spotify lyric

  • swu - i would honestly remove this one completely. the only interesting thing about it is the idea behind it, and when that's the only thing you have, why even continue? she could write another song with the same idea that expresses it better and isn't so extremely straight-forward "this is what i feel with absolutely nothing further to it."

  • Sleep for Dinner - same as swu

  • mindfuck - i would make the verses hit just a bit harder.

  • tongue - give it a different second verse and make the production have more going on. i think someone like LOSTBOY would work for this song to give it a better dark-electro vibe but keep it upbeat.

  • i deserve better. - i would rewrite the lyrics to the first verse and make the production more interesting. i would also make the song less repetitive, and find a different way to emphasize her thinking that she deserves better.

this album definitely could've been done a lot better, and i hope with BK2, she really takes time to make a good project and knows when things don't work, and lets people outside of her circle work on the songs. i noticed that the album is primarily produced by only one person, and that's probably a part of the issue of the songs feeling underdone.

exactly what he said ^

I enjoyed all of the upbeat tracks with the exception of Karaoke and Tongue which despite having potential to be the best songs here they're just sooo undercooked, swu and Sleep for Dinner have terrible lyricism despite being about such interesting topics, she definitely needed to sit on these songs for a few more months and perfect them cuz… this is giving 2021 album released by some random tiktoker

I thought she had it in her to kinda be more iconic but whew, this completely flew under the radar? Sienna Spiro's debut managed to go top 10, I wonder if this girl can as well. I don't see anyone really talk about this album.

Her image and branding are faceless

her whole career is unfortunately based off of TikTok and vibes so I don't see this doing anything
