I was listening to the AT40 today. And Ryan Seacrest said that IOIO was a leftover from the Think Later album(probably meant for the delux that got scrapped), and that a year later Ryan Tedder and Tate returned to it and completed the song and decided to release it. 
 

So I don't think it was ever meant to be a lead? A transitional song. 

That's a relief that they decided to push back to 2025, it would be a mess if it was december again

The transition from the last line of the pre chorus to the chorus was sooooo good but now hearing the pre-chorus in full it kinda doesn't flow well, hopefully it sounds better in hq

She said it was a Think Later demo that they went back to a year later. Why would they choose a reject as a lead?
