I think it's easy to think SUBG sounds generic because it literally defined a pop music archetype for the decade that followed it. But at the time, it was so new that it created a lot of imitators so that might be why it sounds the most "generic". It was the most influential, by far.

I wish Behind Your Hazel Eyes got it's spot instead. I literally hear SUBG while out and about every single day, I still like it.
