Maybe I'm a bit overdramatic but it feels like a world war is on the horizon. So many conflicts and potential conflicts (China - Taiwan) right now. Scary times. Europe needs to wake up and invest massively into the military.

The world is definitely entering a very tumultuous period for sure, though this century so far hasn't had a lack of conflict given everything that went down so far. I am not sure about a world war happening though, I think it will be more of a growing collection of separated but unrelated conflicts all happening at the same time.

When Hamas is treating civilians, political prisoners and children with more dignity & respect than the IDF has ever shown, what does that make them?

watch this post being ignored like any post that doesn’t push the israeli agenda lmao

I’m surprised Hezbollah’s not getting as much attention in coverage of this as it does normally? Just my initial perception.

What do you think is going to happen next? Are they just going to bomb Gaza until there's nothing left?

2 million dead, including civilians? Not happening.

You are correct. Unfortunately.

The West Bank is a completely different mess from Gaza. While Israel disengaged from Gaza in 2004, Israel is still heavily involved in the West Bank. It’s split into 3 zones - one type of zone under the control of Israel, one type of zone under Palestinian control, and one type of zone with Palestinian leadership and Israeli security presence. The problem is that these zones aren’t contiguous, so it’s a border fire nightmare, and a majority population that doesn’t want Israelis there. While there are instances of terrorism taking place there (such as Islamic Jihad working out of Jenin), there hasn’t really been an opportunity for it to spread into the internationally recognized borders of Israel, partially because of the huge security/military presence (aka the occupation). Terrorism does take place there, mostly from Israeli settlers provoking Palestinians and vice versa. One could argue that Hamas’ attack was allowed to happen because of the far-right Israeli government using a big military force to protect the settlers in the West Bank, who don’t serve in the IDF for “religious” reasons, leaving the southern border insecure.

There have been some skirmishes between civilians and police in the West Bank/East Jerusalem as a result of the Hamas incursion into Israel, but nothing on the scale of Gaza. I don’t know what the solution is here - one could say the settlers need to be forced out of the West Bank (which I agree with), but it can also be argued that disengagement was what led to Gaza becoming such a terrorism hotbed. It’s just a mess all around, and we need good faith discussions involving Middle Eastern leaders to come to viable solution. Enough of this all-or-nothing approach many seem to take.

Oh, and the conflation of Palestinian authority with Hamas. Expect more of this in the U.S across the political spectrum.

For the Hawley post on stopping Ukraine funding for Israel instead, see 2024 thread.

That is exactly my point. No side is better or worse than the other, so it blows my mind that people do the mental gymnastics that they do to soften Hamas' crimes.

A few Hamas members treating hostages with respect somehow erases the fact other Hamas members gunned down people at a music festival :rip: I’ve seen it all

Quds Network regularly refers Jewish worshippers at the Western Wall as “Talmudist occupiers storming al-Buraq Wall of al-Aqsa Complex to perform Judaic rituals.”

It’s nothing more than a troll account parading as a genuine news source :doc:

You claim that people ignore the post saying "Hamas treats people with more respect and dignity than IDF" because it doesn't align with the Israeli agenda. Did you give it a thought that maybe people ignore it because it is absurd to put Hamas and dignity in the same sentence after all the things they've done in the past week?

i can say the same about IDF so what’s your point? they never treated the people of palestine with respect nor dignity and they don’t have the basic human rights as anyone should, why only mattered when it happened on the stolen land

@ProudLBS why are you reporting me because i used the same agreement you used?

The AP’s reporting an IDF spokesman is insisting the Rafah, Egypt border crossing is still open for Gaza refugees (the only one left) but Hamas is now saying it’s unusable because of the air-strikes. :coffee2: So now what :coffee2:
