I do think the song is 50% about a relationship and 50% about something else ("you sold me for parts", "bleeding me dry"... - and the video pretty much confirms it with her being hit by the reflector while the audience is watching etc.). Maybe I'm imagining things

You’re not. The video gave away it is also about fame. Shes chased by paparazzi, her heartbreak is a performance for an audience and the stage is at an award show, which points out to the industry. It’s post-famous heartbreak and it wouldn’t surprise me if GUTS has other songs about it

I don't care for this that much  I dont like the melody for the verses and the lyrics are pretty meh. The vampire metaphor is used in the most obvious ways. The switch up is nice though.

 

I like the song a lot but I couldn’t agree more about her lazy use of the vampire metaphor. There’s nothing memorable or interesting done with it, and we only get the lifeless cliches of ‘bloodsucker’, ‘sink your teeth into me’ and ‘coming out at night’

 

Compare that with something like Monster where we get the batshit and graphic line: ‘he tore my clothes right off, he ate my heart and then he ate my brain’ and you see what a wasted opportunity this is 😂 Particularly when the Monster line is such an original metaphor for sex with a guy that’s so rough it borders into abuse/violence and leaves you feeling hollow and empty inside afterwards, so it’s there to develop the theme of the song and not just for shock value.

 

But to give Olivia her props, I really like the line “Oh what a mesmerizing, paralyzing, ****** up little thrill” because it has great musical rhythm.
