From JYP reports, I understand why they released that album, but at the same time they should have cooked it more or just release a single or cut some songs. Like their stadium tour is coming and most of the songs makes sense, in a sense you can already picture them on stage. 

 

But what's the point of having COMFLEX in a world where S-Class already exist.

It got SO much acclaim, being included in the top 3 among plenty of western albums .. (and Super Shy too).

NewJeans is one of the most acclaimed kpop acts now

the album definitely needed more time in the oven... they were scraping the bottom of the barrel of their unreleased vault to fill up the tracklisting and just putting whatever the hell on there as long as it would fill in time

 

If you look at the timeline they were on tour etc. it's pretty clear they just didn't have the time required to put full effort into creating an album

LALALALA is indeed a very strong title track with it, Cover Me and Comflex being the trinity of Rock-Star

I think Rock-Star was more of a quick cash grab compared to 5-Star, just so that they can release another album before the year ends and fulfill the Step Out plan. 

This might also explain why some people find the album album disjointed, since the members wanted to get some songs out of the way, that have been in the drafts for a bit, so that they can go into the new year more fresh, and really focus on the next album. They didn't even promote Rock-Star era as much and didn't even release the multiple MV's for the b-sides, which they usually do. The random SKZFLIX attachment to the album also seemed rushed. 

 

I have a feeling they have something even bigger and crazier planned for their next album in 2024, and I can't wait!    They are also about to start a stadium tour (most likely), so they know they have to step it up 1000X more with the next album in 2024.

I just know Wonbin is screaming internally, when he learned that the group will have 6-member formation from now on, where he now has to share his center spot with another member all the time, unlike uneven membered groups. He really thought he was going to be the next Taeyong, and snatch all the center spotlight alone, huh?
