The perfect opportunity. We don’t even need excessive promotions. Good playlisting, a radio deal, a mv and a performance at Coachella would be enough

Right!

give us what we want!

For now.

This. IVE and maybe IU might be the next casualties of Kpop Game of Thrones (Kakao vs Hybe)

Sidenote which other groups are under Kakao currently? I can think of Apink, and The Boyz.

JYP are kinda save from the Kakao vs Hybe mess for now but we never know what's gonna happen next. JYP being bff with Bang PD due to the past history working together at JYPE and especially appeared on the same pic earlier this year it seems like there's something going on bts between Hybe and JYP as well.

JYPig is safe for now but he better up his game now and manage the groups better because Bang PD is not gonna slow down I fear

I think is a combination of both, but in the end the producers kinda lean into who they want to debut and push for them

Oh I see thanks

but forget the end, you can already tell by episode 2 who they want to make the group by giving payola to the same people

I feel like I know at least 5 of them that will debut and it’s only the 2nd episode. It would be nice if they showcase others. The same people are getting pushed and the same people are in the top 10 of votes

its 90+ trainees and they’re only showing the same couple of people

The collab we’ve been waiting for

love how they added a bit of the “GOOD BOY” choreo in it as well :flame:

It’s crazy how much this list has changed over the years….I wished other kpop ggs also made it other than just BP and TWICE, but since majority of user-base is switching to Spotify and Apple Music, idk if that will ever happen

Is it safe to say that 5th gen is starting?

1) 3rd gen is over and 4th gen fully took over

2) NewJeans are smashing on such a global scale (serving BTS and BLACKPINK) with the help of HYBE trying new promotion tacticts (this will lead to other companies copying them)

3) HYBE making a deal with Scooter, purchasing QC and a part of SM

4) Baemon, SMNGG and SMNBG will all be even younger than the current groups and with k-pop going even more global they will have opportunities at debut that other groups didn’t have

how the hell would 5th gen be starting if 4th gen just finally took over :rip: Serving people thinking 4th gen started in 2018

If 3rd Gen was 2012-2017, 2018-2023 would makes sense to cap 4th Gen. Definitely by 2024 for a 5th Gen :celestial5:

It’ll be hilarious to have groups like Stray Kids, The Boyz, (G)-Idle be “contemporaries” to Idols born in 2010 debuting next year :skull:

3rd gen started in 2012 but took over in 2016, 4 years later

4th gen started in 2018 but took over in 2021/22?, 3-4 years later

it feels like we are entering a whole new era which is why i said 5th gen might be starting soon

wouldn’t be surprised if SM and YG mediaplay their upcoming groups as a part of the new generation :matty:

yup 2024 makes sense

+ baemon and smngg will be able to count as 5th gen even if they debut a year earlier (the boyz teas) :giraffe:

Brand doesn't pay the bills. Everyone can see SM has been struggling since 3rd gen. They had multiple 2nd gen acts making it big and scoring hits with SUJU, SHINee, SNSD, and f(x). But with 3rd generation they only had EXO and RV. Now its 4th gen and all these groups are popping off and their only successful 4th gen group is already struggling

SM's inability to let go of their old groups that are making 0 impact or noise is why they have also struggled to debut new groups. They can't manage 20 active groups.

On paper, this all may sound logical, but it’s an insanely narrow way of outlining the landscape back then. SuJu still had a massive fanbase supporting them by the time 3rd gen rolled in, SNSD was still firmly in the top three GGs even in the mid-10’s, and SHINee was a leader in the global scope of K-pop. Their strong, varied roster was the sole reason SM was still largely considered principal in the K-pop landscape at that point, despite the fact that none of their groups were holding the ultimate position of power anymore. People also tend to either underestimate, or even completely gloss over, how massive these three groups (+TVXQ) were in Japan and the kind of revenue they brought in from that forum. Of course, their biggest turnaround was EXO, which took the company to stratospheric heights, so saying that they had a well-known struggle in the 3rd gen is ludicrous, since literally no group period was outselling EXO at the time. Not to mention their soloists were among the most successful of that era, as well (Taeyeon, Kyuhyun, Jonghyun + Taemin).

SM’s biggest flaws were management missteps, bad investments, and imbalanced distribution of resources, which can all be compounded into one entity: NCT (also a 3rd gen group, btw). SM only started facing real suffrage when they failed to break even with NCT based on what was invested. Debuting 3 sub-units that all promote independently (a total of five active 3rd gen groups) and only seeing minimal returns is what turned the tide against them. It’s delegation that’s their vice, not numbers.

Definitely prefer Hybe over Kakao. I don't expect that much to change at SM tbh. Too much of one style (either SM's or Hybe's) will eat into the other's demos, rather than bolster it. I actually think this could speed up certain comebacks and debuts. SM has money and security to play with now.

Also, companies all around the world are consolidating more than ever. This is the new norm.

Now that we're witnessing this all happening, I think we can all agree that JYJ was absolutely correct in suing SM Entertainment. They were right about LSM and the company culture all along. I remember Uknow/Boa throwing shade at them back in the day for suing. Turns out LSM and SM company culture led to SM's own downfall. Welp :lakitu:

Bang Si Hyuk Welcomes Miyawaki Sakura And Kim Chae Won To ...

Some people said SM family is closer than other companies and they respect Lee Soo Man, well it's because those who voiced their opinion against him - suing slave contract, overworking, underpaid, creative freedom... are being blacklisted. He keeps the yes men (Kangta, Boa, Yunho...) closer to him to create good teacher image.

JYJ was right and it changed the industry. The Junsu vs other SM artists fight was a mess but I won't fault Boa or Yunho though. They were recruited as children and were basically taught LSM created their career, they owed it to him and seeing other people in the same boat going against him, they saw it as betrayal. Boa's mother was nasty though, going on TV and shaded JYJ at her old age :deadbanana4:

In the grand scheme, Junsu was right and had the gut to take the jab against LSM and other SM sheep artists. According to Jessica book, she and many SNSD members were on JYJ side and are thankful to their lawsuit. Taeyeon gave a thank you note to Junsu and followed Jaejoong on IG around 2015.

The best thing for them to do is sit tight. Though it will be a rocky ride with the news that LSM is in talks to sell his shares to HYBE now out of spite.

If they sued SM, they'd end their careers, plus I'm pretty sure SM contracts have a non-competition term, which means they'd be blocked from promoting on TV etc. if they left.

That's sad huh, I'm hopping that if HYBE ends up being the owner of SM things starts to change for good, now YG what's up with them they kinda losing maybe merge with JYP would work

Oh wow this is absolutely wild :deadbanana4:

Its going to be so interesting watching the effects of this take place… I can’t fully picture what the future is going to look like or what to expect

Personally I feel that SM’s output has been on a downward spiral for years at this point and the days of their highs were unfortunately gone, whereas HYBE have fully proven themselves to be the new industry leader, so I am optimistic to see this change take place. Seeing them come together is absurd, but could have amazing results

I always thought the metaverse thing was so stupid. Does anyone really care about this apart from corny rich people and crypto bros? :rip:

I'd get it if we had actually immersive VR technology, like Sword Art Online-style, but that's pretty much impossible (and it wouldn't be acessible to 99% of the world population). Why would I care about some virtual idol when I could just go to a real concert?

It makes no sense. I thought when they announced it with Aespa they were going to do NFT's, have some kind of SM crypto, etc. and they've basically done nothing.

Not that I support blockchain ANYTHING they really missed the opportunity of launching kwangya (or whatever) NFT's so the little sheepsters could run around social sites with NFT profile pics measuring who's the biggest superfan.

Maybe they meant multiverse...

ReVeluv on my timeline :deadbanana4: They are speculating on which two will stay with Hybe, If Hybe decide to NU’EST Red Velvet :deadbanana4:

And no one think Yeriana will stay :deadbanana4:  This ppl with zero taste

Whew! Kookielit coming through with the run down. I was so lost!

Anyways, I don't get any joy out of SM tanking. After Girls, I don't care if Aespa ever gets a comeback again (but make sure Winter goes solo, she's the new Taeyeon!)
