on 2008 Carly Rae Jepsen released her indie debut album “Tug of war” and she opened the album with this dull bittersweet summer-y reggae guitar influenced driven song called “Bucket”

 

 

 

did Hilary listened to Carly indie debut when she blew up with Call Me Maybe and tried to have her own Bucket moment?

 

She also copied Carly in dating and working with Matthew Koma, and managed to one up Carly as she married him as well :fan:

I didn’t knew she dated Matthew :fish2: I guess they really both wanted to copy Carly since she was getting acclaim and 2 WW hits (“Good Time” and “Call Me Maybe”) so they thought with Hilary would have happened the same  :ducky:

If anything, Chasing the Sun sounds kinda similar to Stars Are Blind.

 

The song has grown on me A LOT, and I absolutely love it today, but it was a disastrous choice for her comeback single when they had All About You and Tattoo sitting right there :shakeno:

Sparks should've been her comeback. It peaked at #76 without the "comeback" momentum

More like Carly copied Hilary

but yeah that Carly album is terrible! So I doubt Hilary copied her from that one song.

But Sparks would have never happened. She recorded it in 2015 after CTS/AAY era.
