With school, the rewards are often further down the line, so it's easy to feel like your hard work isn't paying off. It could also be that you get a bigger rush from winning an argument because it's a more personal victory. When you do well in school, it's a reflection of your intelligence and abilities, but when you win an argument, it feels like a reflection of your wit and charisma.
