First I just wanna say congrats to @Jackson cuz you’ve been playing these games since even before I started way back in PH7 and it’s nuts we get to tie as winners on this one :jonny: you consistently smashed each round and I was sweating trying to predict how this would go. now that I’ve snagged my white whale and finally won a season, do I hang up my competitor hat, or do I go for a solo win next? ?Time will tell! Thank you to everyone who submitted and made this game so lively and great.

OMGGGGGG :jonny:  A 10 thank you wow

You absolutely deserved this win through and through, and I think the constancy in your scoring from R1-R5 alone is testament to that, but all we were really missing was that one 9+ entry to blow us away and you did that and more with a perfect 10. :jonny5:

Speaking of white whales, you've managed to snatch not only a tournament win for yourself, but an elusive perfect 10 score! Something I believe only your fellow co-winner @Jackson has achieved way back in 2017 with Diamond Hit's Song of the Season "Stardust", and he almost achieved again (along with @Augmented) with their tied smash hits “Reykjavik” and “When Tradition Falls” respectively.

Final season chart coming shortly!

Written for the queer pride challenge and tied for second highest scoring song of the season,

Augmented - When Traditional Falls:

  Reveal hidden contents

When Tradition Falls

V1:

When Tradition falls

I’ll be standing at its centre

Detached from two realities

The prayers or “the agenda”

V2:

When Tradition falls,

Unbind the knots that silenced my voice

Let each word rise above the choir

Hear my speech break through the noise

Pre:

A lonely melody escapes my lips,

A broken motif ready to be heard

To sing “I’m free” to unknown faces

the crowd engaged by every word.

Chorus:

“My voice was once reduced to whispers,

My soul was once buried by fears

The tears I cry fall not in sadness

Merely from joy which now appears”

V3:

This lonely heart stands in the rubble

The first in line to renounce his faith

The prayers at night won’t be forgotten

I’ll use their strength to keep me safe.

V4:

This lonely heart now gets its choice

To finally pick a love desired

Not wrestling with hate and sin

To choose a man he once admired.

Pre 2:

A lonely melody escapes my lips,

A broken motif ready to be heard

To sing “I’m yours” to a wanted lover

And hear those words sung in return.

Chorus2:

“My love was once reduced to ashes

So desolate and beyond repair

Now I will nurture its new life

An age where love shall win so fair”

Bridge:

With this newly found perspective

I’ll raise my head towards the skies

And now I see what I have missed

By keeping them bowed to echoed lies

Those muted tones of sepia hues

Which once cast over these broken lands

Is painted with an arch of colour

That spans from heaven down to the sands.

Final Chorus:

“My song will now reach out to others

My family will hear its call

They’ll understand my final statement

I made my choice when Tradition falls”

Lemme bump this fantastic song you all should read :jonny6:

@fountain can you post my song for this round

First I just wanna say congrats to @Jackson cuz you’ve been playing these games since even before I started way back in PH7 and it’s nuts we get to tie as winners on this one :jonny: you consistently smashed each round and I was sweating trying to predict how this would go. I do have to admit my R6 song partially exists cuz I wanted to at least tighten up the lead you had on me :eli: (There were multiple concepts but this one I was thinking “yeah maybe this could beat Jackson”) you’re a great competitor and songwriting friend :hughard:

and just for my thoughts… I’ve been trying to win an ATRL songwriting game for the longest :skull: I’ve gotten eliminated via non submission more than ranking out im pretty sure? So I’m happy I got to finally write a finale song first of all. And for that to be the round’s #1/help me win the season? Cherry ( :eli: ) on top. This song almost didn’t happen and I was so conflicted about what to write (I almost went for Nothing), but in the end, I knew I had to finish with this particular song and submit it. I’m glad I did! Thank you of course to the judges for the amazing season/format.

now that I’ve snagged my white whale and finally won a season, do I hang up my competitor hat, or do I go for a solo win next? ?Time will tell! Thank you to everyone who submitted and made this game so lively and great.

This honestly felt like such a repeat of Diamond Hit where the two of you had slayed the season in your own individual ways and were coming into the final as the front runners :jonnycat: you’ve both made it so hard to pick somebody to root for because you’re both so good! I’m so happy with this outcome and I hope you are too.

8th, you put your own flare into everything you write and have submitted many of the most creative and thought provoking songs of the season. As always you’ve impressed us throughout and never missed a beat in any of the challenges! Your skill as a writer is incredible and I’m so happy to see you as a winner :heart2:

OMG, I love this! TBH I was actually manifesting this earlier today while chatting with a couple people in the game but I didn't expect it to actually happen. Major congratulations @8thPrince!! You've been a legend in this game for years and didn't even need this win to cement your status, but it's so deserved and I'm so genuinely happy for you :jonny5:. Plus you probably got a 10 for your final song which is absolutely insane. I can't think of a more deserving person for the win

BTW, if anyone wants to read my song for this round or any song I've submitted for this game ever (minus the two I'm missing, RIP), here's a link to them all. I've been working on this for a while so this it seemed like a good time to post

When @fountain leaked the messages we were all cackling. :ahh: The fact a tie was not only technically possible at this point after so many different scores and varying opinions, and yet ACTUALLY happened was insane, we were so shook. Literally 0.1 point different in any round and it wouldn't have worked out this way. You wholeheartedly deserved this win for “Reykjavik” alone imo, which I also think should have been a perfect 10, but you really did serve excellence all throughout this tournament and although it wasn't always appreciated consistently ("Bike Lane" might be an indie classic sleeper hit, I fear), your 1-2-3 punch was unparalleled.

Congratulations on being only the second writer to win two ATRL songwriting tournaments, following @Prisoner's wins of Song of the Season 2 and 4! :1stplace:

I'm glad you were able to compile the majority of your old material. There's something so special about that.

WAIT not me and @Jackson both having 2 songs in the Top 10 of the overall songs :jonny5:

It's a tie?! congratulations :clap3:

@fountain can you post my song for this round

Of course

here is thee “a ******* perfect score of 10” song I’m Practicing Happiness

VERSE 1

Close enough to go unnoticed, strange enough to still be found

My own body’s like a t-shirt that’s inverted inside out

Moving at the same tempo as the people, but exposed in the crowd

When I’m anxious or frustrated I bite on my fingertips

It’s almost like I want to escape from this fragile skin

Can’t find the words to unravel it so I dip my pen in the wounds, again and again

PRECHORUS

I heard all artists are tragic

Their hands forced by their ghosts

So I searched for warmth by gripping to that whipping post

I stopped trying to find hope that always evaded me

Slipping through my fingers like light weaving through the trees

CHORUS

All along I only traced the outline of what’s missing

Filling in negative space with color and pretending

Stitched together vignettes other people had been in

Brushing off reality, shrouded in its afterimage

POSTCHORUS

Days my body slumped against the door and let nobody in

Convincing myself this is the life I want to live

Days I swore I wasn’t sad

Only practicing my own version of happiness.

VERSE 2

The world never had to knock as I tried to hold that door back

Voices trickled through the keyhole and still flowed through the gaps

Slinking under the door frame, my face twisted by their warm laughs

PRECHORUS

People are foreign to me

But I’m a stranger to them

Was saying I don’t belong self-conceit or defense?

Connection is like the orbit I traced while adrift:

At what point does the circle and communication begin?

CHORUS

I told myself others and I lead incompatible lives

Separate like a blank page striped with parallel lines

But maybe while I scribbled down words that bridged that divide

I was trying to reconcile those two different sides

POSTCHORUS

I’m starting to learn there’s more than one way to live

So nowadays when I shut myself in

It’s not because I’m sad

I’m just practicing my own version of happiness

BRIDGE

Restrained in the bound binders

Penned on the littered loose leaf:

I can’t say any of it completely captures the real me

Even on those days I was completely shut away

Surely there were times where I was smiling

REFRAIN

All this time,

I told myself others and I lead incompatible lives…

CHORUS

But all along I only traced the outline of what’s missing

Filling in negative space with color and pretending

Stitched together vignettes other people had been in

Brushing off reality, shrouded in its afterimage

POSTCHORUS

Days my body slumped against the door and let nobody in

Convincing myself this is the life I want to live

Days I swore I wasn’t sad

Only practicing my own version of happiness

OUTRO

Little by little, I’m practicing happiness.

This song was an entry for the All prompt in the final round and you can read how it applied to the prompt and the background to the song here:

Title drop from R3 and imagery repurposed from R1 in the first prechorus, similar outline/space theme in the first and last chorus recontextualized from R2, similar theming from R5 in the 2nd chorus, and more visceral imagery as inspired by R4 in the first verse.

This song was written as a sort of metacommentary on writing/artistry, on how being devoted to art can be both alienating yet personally/interpersonally satisfying.

I think everyone has a lot to be proud of this season, not just the winners or the Top 10... every single one of you, especially those who submitted consistently throughout all six rounds. As you may have noticed in the rankings, those who submitted more definitely ended up in the higher ranks overall. Of course life comes first and sometimes it's out of our control, but if you decide to participate in a future season, I'd highly recommend submitting for all rounds, even if you're not sure it's your best work ever. The proof is in the (proverbial, golden) pudding!

Speaking of rankings, the compiled season averages are coming right up for the stat fanatics! :celestial5:

Golden Hit: Season 2 announcement!

@Aurora and I have been so happy with this first season and so proud of Golden Hit that of course we have been thinking ahead to the future too.

The community that this game has had and the creative outlet that it has been is absolutely beautiful, and that’s something we are striving to keep here.

The next season of Golden Hit will be fundamentally the same: no eliminations, everybody has a place in this game to write and grow from beginning to end. We believe in this format and after the success that this first season has been, and the many examples during the game of how beneficial this format is, we can’t wait to bring it back. Sooner rather than later, in fact…

Golden Hit will be returning for its second season later this summer in the latter half of August!

We really hope to see as many of you lovely people as possible again  and of course once again thank you for supporting our first season, and here’s to many more in the future!

Of course

here is thee “a ******* perfect score of 10” song I’m Practicing Happiness

  Reveal hidden contents

  Reveal hidden contents

Title drop from R3 and imagery repurposed from R1 in the first prechorus, similar outline/space theme in the first and last chorus recontextualized from R2, similar theming from R5 in the 2nd chorus, and more visceral imagery as inspired by R4 in the first verse.

This song was written as a sort of metacommentary on writing/artistry, on how being devoted to art can be both alienating yet personally/interpersonally satisfying.

Amazing lyrics. @8thPrince coming through with the talentry

Love in particular that second line, “My own body’s like a t-shirt that’s inverted inside out.” such a specific/strange image yet somehow I completely relate to it? also love the second chorus / refrain line about incompatible lives
