gaga doesn't need to say anything about joker. it's not her movie, she did not cause it to bomb. zero actors or actresses are ever asked to address a movie bombing. :rip: :rip:

but uh, yeah, there being ZERO lead up to this single is disastrous for y'all who stan for charts and success ddddd.

Wasn't this posted by someone in this thread? They even shared pics of the jewellery they were looking at

idk why y'all still listen to 'insiders'. it's a lie after lie, some of y'all were so convinced she was dropping the lead in March because somebody on twitter said so.

We're talking about the legit ones, like Mr. S who literally posted Gaga's face from the DWAS cover art.

Y'all are melting down because she hasn't announced the single 2 weeks in advance? :coffee2:

i guess it depends on how you view it. i want good music so that's where it stops for me, but we're on ATRL so commercial success is going to be factored in. gaga, to put it bluntly, is not taylor swift; her first week needs as much lead up and hype as possible if they want a decent debut. but the longer she waits to announce anything, the more pointless any kind of lead up becomes. if a "surprise drop" is the plan, which is fine, there is not going to be a big debut to satisfy the fans.

Yall I know times are tough but just remember:

in a year, we will look back at this time and laugh about the joker meltdowns. EVERY person in Hollywood has had a colossal box office failure. It's extremely common. Cate blanchett just had one with borderlands. it'll be fine.

right now, the backlash is so high because people wanted joker to be something different from what it was.

in a few years, I promise there will be think-pieces about how it wasn't understood or received correctly.

Why would she be dropping hints about the lead single now? If it's not coming for another two weeks that would be a surefire way to kill the hype too early. She would be better off teasing for a few days before dropping, ideally like a week.

If she announced 2 weeks in advance the hype would be dead before the single even arrived.

She is smart to keep a low profile ATM and avoid any J:FAD backlash. The internet will have moved on in a week's time anyway - just in time for the lead :clap3:

:deadbanana: two weeks is only 14 days, sis. that's, like, the ideal amount of time these days to give people a heads up.

i'd be fine with a week of lead up, but that's only if they have a video planned and something fun to go along with the pre-week.

The hate train with Katy was so forced and the way majority of y'all happily participated in the mess …. I fear this is karma

Hopefully LG7 lead is sickening cause I can't handle another bomb skskskdkd

This is bullshit lmao. :ahh: Nothing about people dragging Katy for working with a rapist was forced.

Katy bombed on a level no one has seen before; that isn't going to happen to Gaga... like it's not even possible due to Gaga's fanbase size (even though it has obviously shrunk). Look at Katy's numbers, she performed as if nobody knows who she is. This single could bomb and it wouldn't come close to being "karma".

Gaga and Joaquin are bombing on a level no one has ever seen either before so…. Next time maybe y'all should hush when someone is experiencing a colossal bomb akin to the one we're experiencing now :deadbanana4:

hmm I'm not sure, I guess it really depends on the method of teasing but 14 days in this era is quite a long time. The only time that teasing for that long really works now is if a snippet goes viral on TikTok or there is already huge hype from a past smash era. Otherwise it can easily backfire and lead people to already have moved on by the time it's actually released. People have ridiculously short attention spans these days.

The way Judas will be the first song on BTW to hit a billion and is by far and away becoming THE classic from the era…

i wish I could teleport back to 2011 and tell my old self this news. I LOVED Judas in 2011 but there was so much controversy around it, people hating on it, and I remember how much damage it did to her momentum that era… only for it to do a complete 180 and be MORE than appreciated.

talent wins in the end!

I'm glad that I never caved under the pressure and always appreciated Judas for a banger that it was. From the Gagavision teasing to LQ snippets leaking, I've always stood by it. Cultural baptism was a decade late, but better late than never I guess! She better bring it back for her next tour.

It always annoyed me back when people removed Judas from their BTW ideal single rollout because of its performance. Had it not been a single, fans would still be crying about it like they do with Scheisse.

Please don't buy into this narrative OGH's are pushing bro.
The whole "never been seen before" Is such nonsense. Please take 5 minutes and research movie failures and you'll see this happens constantly. Cats, Babylon, borderlands…

this is quite precedented, actually.

Well not really... I mean sure the drop is huge but that's only because the first BO wasn't an outright bomb, just an underperformance from what was expected. But in terms of movie's that are actually the biggest BO bombs and critical pannings of all time, JFAD doesn't even come close.

Okay that's true let me relax

I think it's still so shocking to me because I was fully expecting the sequel to outgross the original skskskdk :rip:

The movie industry is unpredictable. Nicole Kidman and Anne Hathaway have panned flop after flop after flop. It doesn't really matter. Gaga will get more big roles.

Yeah we all definitely expected more but oh well nevermind :rip:

In hindsight, I think from the moment it was announced to be a musical it was always going to be a tough hill to climb for it to outgross the original. The musical aspect really pissed off a lot of the OG film's fans (many of whom didn't even want a sequel in the first place), and musicals typically don't perform well at the box office anyway. For it to smash we really needed the reviews to be glowing and universal, or for there to be some kind of zeitgeist-y controversy around it. The musical aspect alienated a lot of it's audience and the other demographic that could have really saved the movie (people who were drawn to see Gaga) were probably put off by the reports that she wasn't in it as much as we were expecting, so overall just a recipe for an underperformance.

But I really don't think it's that big of a deal, Gaga has dealt with underperformances and backlash before and luckily already has the next stage of her career lined up.
