EEAAO’s undeniable stature sweeping pre-cursor’s left and right, helped pushed Yeoh over Blanchett, also the case w JLC. Cate would’ve easily won in another other recent year. No one curr about Spencer given its complete shut-out at the BAFTA’s & its sole BA Oscar nom, which was basically her consolation prize given how the industry practically shut out film as a whole. TCP still would compete in Comedy/Musical regardless of how much of “drama piece” it’s viewed as so the main competitor would’ve been The Wicked. despite the original getting 13 noms across, it still got zero wins. the film just isn’t as win-competitive as the other more academy friendly original highbrow films, the same could be said for next year w the current release slates

I mean, it's easy pointing out these facts once they happened, but if you go look back at the discourse before things went in this way, the predictions and discourses were different, for example you were also sure last year that HMH got more chances of win because being attached to a blockbuster BP contender than an unknown Indian movie song that was the only nomination of the movie, thing that never happened before with a not english song, like I said, you can't write off a conteder this early, you never know.

it was always either Yeoh or Blanchett. SAG tremendously benefited the former after it was clear the film was a catalyst waiting to be rewarded across despite the latter winning BAFTA, which was kinda obv. unknown Indian movie that film twitter and almost every highbrow critic made sure Academy was aware and fully visible of despite its complete shut-out elsewhere. and technically Jai Ho for Slumdog Millionaire was the first Indian song to win. also didn’t help the fact HMH was against LMU, another blockbuster, that was a close Top 10 BP contender. TCP may be a crowd-pleaser, occasionally moving, but there are just way too many juggernaut crowd pleasing alternatives especially on a preferential ballot.

Oh she is doing ALL the award shows in 2025 if she releases original music next year. We are going to be FED :WAP:

And even if she doesn't release music, I can only imagine that JFAD will have a Grammy nod. Though I think the deadline for Grammies will close before JFAD's release in 2024.. either way, it's going to be granny updos galore!

HMH and LMU were both credit songs. Songs that only play during the credits do not win Oscars.
Naatu Naatu was actually in the film and had a major scene dedicated to it

I forget that she’s been to the International Emmys (12 years ago today)

bond theme songs play over opening credits (same difference), Lose Yourself plays over 8 Miles credits

'Naatu Naatu' broke a stat, it's the first not english song that managed to win an Oscar with being the only nomination of a movie, 'Jai Ho' was in a Best Picture winner that won and got tones of Oscar nominations, that I meant earlier @hausofdave

Some people were using this stat last year in prediction sites and boards thinking NN wouldn't have ended up winning the Oscar at the end because of that despite the Globe win.
