IMO, he got lucky with BTW and has since not proven himself.

 

With that said, people should focus less on ARTPOP Act II and more on BTW Act II. Gaga going back to being fully carefree and a bad ass risk taker would be nice.

It's wild how the fan-favorite choices for singles back in 2011 (MTN, Scheisse, etc.) are gathering dust while the songs going viral on TikTok (Government Hooker, HML, etc.) are the ones we all thought would flop as singles.

Even some of the weaker songs on the album (Bad Kids, Highway Unicorn, Americano, etc.) have their own unique mark and identity. Not a single one of Born This Way's 17 tracks sound like any of the others.

Plastic Doll is the reverse Bad Kids. Spectacular chorus, horrible verses as opposed to Bad Kid's great verses but horrible chorus.

Fun Tonight is so misunderstood tbh. The lyrics are great and I love her delivery on it minus the oh oh oh oh at the end which kinda ruins it but that’s my main issue with chroma is everything mostly feels like demos

Very much this. I have a guttural '' cringe '' reaction whenever I hear the '' oohh AAAHH UH OH AAAAH UH OH AAAAH UH OH '' part and the goddamn kidz bop'd beat in the background. It just feels unfinished and phoned in, especially when the song puts so much emphasis on building up to the final drop, and you get zero satisfaction during the drop you've been anticipating the entire song.

 

And the thing is, Gaga really knows how to build up a song and end it in an extremely satisfying way. She showed it in the Chromatica album itself. Rain On Me bridge -> last chorus is MAGICAL, same with Replay. But Fun Tonight just falls flat, and it's extra disappointing because there's some good material there that is ruined by an extremely lackluster and honestly very cringey drop/outro that doesn't do anything for the song, except ruin it.

That’s my main issue for most of Chroma

Things fall flat and most of it just sound basic and generic which is so different from anything Gaga got us used to
