GraceRandolph Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 Can we finally admit that Applause was a mid lead and doesn't compare to JD, BR, and BTW?

Brishka Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 She was the frontrunner in the BA race (on the cusp of the nomination announcement), and she still somehow managed to miss it. She was an ironclad lock. That was probably the biggest snub in the BA race of all time. If they snub Gaga today, it will not be that shocking.

hausofdave Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 what helps this time is that Gaga is attached to an critically acclaimed movie which is also in contention as one of the current BP frontrunners unlike HOG where we saw first hand w the noms how much the Academy members disliked it (the fact it even missed Costume shoud’ve been a looming grey sign)

I don't know. I think this fanbase is kind of stuck in the 2008-2013 era of pop when leads had to be uber radio friendly/palatable. and accomplish like ten things at once. We always expect a lead single to be a perfect representation of the album, be radio friendly, and top past leads, or something, but really I think Aura, Sexxx Dreams, G.U.Y., or a solo DWUW could have worked as an ARTPOP lead. Chromatica had at least 3 songs that could have been better leads than Stupid Larvae too.
Brishka Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 To be honest, I don't really care about Oscar nominations for BOS (especially for a very mediocre song). Getting a BA nomination for Gucci would have been great though. She carried the entire movie and fully deserved the nomination. I was absolutely sure that she was a lock after BAFTA nominations. She made it to every single precursor. The Academy really did her dirty. ASIB should have swept in 2019 as well.

Mix Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 Applause was the perfect lead for ARTPOP. You might hate it but the song is a solid pop track that represents the album. It's in the safe side with a little of edge.
besaid Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 Applause is her best lead. Her only bad lead is stupid lasagna.
Bhabylon Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 (edited) Not the Applause hate. Do y'all not remember being gagged by that FLAWLESS chorus the first time you heard it? Edited January 24, 2023 by Bhabylon

The instrumental is strong, but the verses are clunky and that chorus is not strong for Gaga’s standards.
Bhabylon Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 PISS was great, she channeled Kurt Cobain on that one Y'all are really on something tonight! We don't need this energy before Oscar nominations

No. It was due to self-competition (her votes were likely split due to "Nocturnal Animals"). The same happened with Scarlett Johansson ("Lost in Translation" and " Girl with a Pearl Earring"). Pretty shocking (but not as shocking as Gaga's snub, which was the biggest L in my stanning career). I spent two months tracking every single award show on Goldderby, arguing with KStew stans only toforr Gaga's name not to appear on the list of the nominees. The fact that Gaga was the only one who was nominated for BAFTA made that L even bigger. Edited January 24, 2023 by Brishka
