Pink Matter Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 After Hours + Murphy's Law and What's Your Pleasure? Future Nostalgia + DSN, PIBS, and Forgive Me Great updates!
TheWayWeWere Posted December 23, 2020 Author Posted December 23, 2020 me realising everyone finishing their countdowns TOP 50 ALBUMS 10 HAIM | Women In Music Pt. III "L.A. on my mind, I can’t breathe" I think they released their best album so far with this. It hits you from the first track. It's cohesiveness, summery feeling through the tracks, nostalgia, loneliness, bittersweet lyrics, rough rock sounds, r&b influence all over it forms such an amazing record from top to bottom. Even through it's most breezy moments, it still haunts you with lyricism, even through it's most upbeat moments they sharps you with some of the biggest life questions. Perfect album for walking on sunny road. highlights: Los Angeles, Gasoline, 3am, Leaning on You, FUBT 09 Halsey | Manic "In my world, I'm constantly, constantly havin' a breakthrough or a breakdown, or a blackout" Album title is very telling actually. Manic is chaotic, jarring, sometimes happy and glorious, sometimes angry and depressing, even collabs on this album looks so random. Unlike her previous album, which was filled with pop radio anthems, this one felt a bit different - even on its most radio friendly songs she still raises some intimate themes. Pretty strong pop record, wish'd she would go further in pop-punk route. highlights: 3am, Finally//beautiful stranger, Alanis' Interlude, Still Learning, I'm Not Mad 08 Chloe x Halle | Ungodly Hour "I wish you all the best, I'll help you pick her dress" This is how artistic growth looks like! I loved their first album, but it still had some disney-ish moments here and there. On 'Ungodly Hour' girls shows maturity, vocal delivery, sexiness, self-power and self-control. And it's not about good-girl-gone-bad, it's mostly age-old changes, which is great. One of the most cohesive and strongest r&b/pop records of the year - record stacked with hypnotic house beats, trap melodies and vocal harmonies. highlights: Ungodly Hour, Lonely, Busy Boy, Don't Make It Harder On Me, Wonder What She Thinks of Me 07 Charli XCX | how i'm feeling now "I don't trust myself at all, why should you trust me?" I'm still surprised this album was panned by atrl Like, it was one of my favorite album while we were on quarantine and it sounds still fresh and relatable now. It was great idea from the start, and even though result could've been better by Charli standards, she did that in ****ing 6 weeks herself! It's intimate share of her feelings and thoughts during such an extraordinary situation. And all of that in futuristic/indie pop package. It's still one of the best music moments of the year. Honest look at herself and the world around during isolation days. highlights: party 4 u, anthems, visions, enemy 06 JoJo | good to know "Don't be ashamed of your scars" Even though I loved Mad Love so much, it's on Good to Know she finally finds her voice, finally found her sound. On album about independence and self-love/self-knowledge she showcases her amazing voice, her diversity on both pop/r&b/orchestral/acoustic guitar songs. She actually lives through every song and you actually feel connected to it. You're bopping, grooving, dancing around, crying and feel empathy to songs from this record. I just can't stop fuming how underrated she is. highlights: Think About You, Don't Talk Me Down, So Bad, Pedialyte, Small Things TOP 100 SINGLES 15 Grimes | My Name is Dark "Un-**** the world, you stupid girl" This is ****ing insane! A lil step-sister of KillVMaim this masterpiece feels absolutely surreal. Angry guitar and drum sounds along with her mellow voice and massive production. It's absolutely great. 14 Dua Lipa | Physical "You got me feeling diamond rich" It's probably my favorite single of hers and one of the most effective ones. It does sounds like future nostalgic song. While it the melody is full of 80s synths, it's banging beat and sexual energy elevates it to some futuristic sound. It's massive chorus just can't stop you from dancing around. 13 Chloe x Halle | Do It "It's a "Homies only" kind of mood" It's full time bop, smooth and groove party jam that can't leave you indifferent. Sound is so striking, nostalgic and unique at the same time. And harmonies! 12 Charli XCX | forever "You take your time, I'll take mine, we'll be fine" It's one of my favorites from HIFN and one of my favorites from Charlie at all. Such a beautifully sad electronic ballad, that reminds you about existence of a forever with your loved ones - even in some hard times, like quarantine. There's love, hope, reconnection and resilience. We can change and world around can change too, but love is beyond all of that. 11 Doja Cat | Say So "Boy, stop playing, grab my ass, why you actin' like you shy?" It's clearly one of the most enjoyable hits in my recent memory. It sounds like a traditional pop hitwith dose of nostalgic sound (disco influence back in 2019!), but it's Doja's airy voice during both singing and rapping moments, that makes this so heavenly beautiful. It's her bubbly persona and immaculate production makes this song so powerful and divine. Mr. Loco Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 I don't get why positions was so hated, it was a really sexy bop Dua really had disco make a great comeback with FN!! She really delivered with her album Also Love again & Levitating among the top tracks (physical should also be there tho) folklore was a very well done album! Don't start now
Mr. Loco Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 Physical & Say so are great bops! They really delivered some disco nostalgia
Green Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 I think Manic is probably my favorite Halsey album Physical, Do it, Say So
Kevin2803 Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 JoJo on all these lists she deserves the acclaim. Ungodly Hour & Manic Physical
Remmy Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 I have similar opinions on the HAIM, Halsey & Charli releases: there's strong tracks on each, but there's also some weak ones here and there that kinda bring it all down. good to know is some solid R&B though and then we have Ungodly Hour, which is obviously incredible Gasoline, 3am, Finally//bs, anthems, visions, So Bad, Pedialyte and ALL your CxH selections || Say So is fine, can't really get into Doja so far. DEFINITELY can't get into Gr*mes. forever Do It + Physical could've been a smidge higher, both exude excellence Ready to see everything else that's left!
ARTPØP Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 Say So, Forever, PhysiGOD Manic & How I'm Feeling Now
TalkThatRihanna Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 Okay wait at the double update punch Manic & UH Top 10 Also I’m the part of ATRL who hates that Charli album as you’ll soon find out As per the singles, The triple punch of Say So, Do It, and Physical Taste all around
T.O.A.D.S. Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 Manic is the only Halsey album I've listened to and I quite enjoyed it. Alanis' Interlude is a bop Ugodly Hour/Do It Physical and Say So are cute too

potent Posted December 25, 2020 Posted December 25, 2020 WIM interesting choice for FUBT, and I was never huge on 3 AM even though I appreciate its sound, but the other 3 you listed are great Not interested in the other albums sadly, JoJo was really boring this year I know a lot of people like CxH but they're not for me, and I don't like Halsey or Charli Physical could've even been in the top 10 I think
TheWayWeWere Posted December 25, 2020 Author Posted December 25, 2020 mess @ my countdown flopping hard now
TheWayWeWere Posted December 25, 2020 Author Posted December 25, 2020 MERRY MARIAHSTMAS THOUGH! I hope next year will be better and send you all the love and happiness
TheWayWeWere Posted December 25, 2020 Author Posted December 25, 2020 (edited) AND THE GRAND FINALE TOP 50 ALBUMS 05 Jhené Aiko | Chilombo "I'll take some rain with my sunshine" Trip was the first album by her that I adored, so I was pretty excited about her next project. And she didn't dissappoint. Chilombo feels like a place to chill, basically, and sit down to think about love, passion, sex.. being angry on your ex, being happy, let down your past, find a way to heal yourself and learn. With Chilombo she brings you to a carnaval of ups and downs, of emotions, but even on its most depressing moments, you know there's good things coming. Great, very atmospheric album, a bit too long for many people, which causes some fillers here and there, but I love long records, so it was pleasure to me highlights: Triggered, Above & Beyond, Party for Me, Tryna Smoke, Born Tired 04 Harry Styles | Fine Line "I noticed that there's a piece of you in how I dress" I never really cared about Harry's music before I decided to shaffle this album after Adore You MV. And I'm so glad I did. It's amazing record. Soulful and elegant collection of pop songs. This album is full of life. He drives on the first track and you went with Harry through amazing and colorful journey of finding herself, finding joy and happinness after break-up. While I still don't really like his debut, on Fine Line he seems to find his sound and perspective. One of the strongest male albums in recent memories. highlights: Lights Up, Sunflower Vol. 6, Fine Line, To Be So Lonely 03 Grimes | Miss Anthropocene "This is the sound of the end of the world" On Miss Anthropocene, Mrs. Musk drops her bright pop persona of Art Angels. Result is a mixing bag a bag, there's more anger, algorithm-like robotic sound, dark themes of life and death. Even the most poppy tracks feels a bit bittersweet. This album contains one of her best productions to date and some of her most intimate lyrics. Despite a complexity of the themes she decides to touch on this record, it still remains personal, but wild and confronting ride through her imagination and thoughts both. highlights: You'll miss me when I'm not around, Idoru, Violence, We Appreciate Power 02 Jessie Ware | What's Your Pleasure? "I'm feeling like I wanna be free from feeling this pleasure and the pain" The woman behind the BEST disco album of recent years is no one else, but 36-year old mother Jessie. After taking a break after her motherly inspired Glasshouse, she comebacks this year with this fierce body of work. She don't need a big production team or collaborators, she don't need a big label support - yet she claims her iconique status of club diva. Cohesive, enigmatic, celebratory, sultry and insanely-inventive album that got much above your expectations. It's not just gets inspired by 70s disco music, she does her own one. There's no need to sample or tribute someone, because this album sounds absolutely organic with her voice, songwriting, production. Absolutely fantastic album, that sounds timeless. highlights: Soul Control, Adore You, The Kill, In Your Eyes, Remember Where You Are 01 Lady Gaga | Chromatica "Could you pull me out of this alive?" Drag me 1) I'm a basic bitch; 2) I adore Gaga; 3) I adore weird Gaga; 4) I adore dance pop bops; 5) Rain on Me; 6) Chromatica II transition to 911; 7) Album cover. I was surprised even by myself, when I compilied this list to realise how much I listen this album through the year. And it's reasonable - every track is a stand-out banger, so you never really get tired of it. It's over the top, over the pop, but feels so energetic and celebratory of life. highlights: Alice, Babylon, Enigma, 1000 Doves TOP 100 SINGLES 10 Halsey | You should be sad "I'm so glad I never ever had a baby with you" Who thought Halsey could deliever us with even better break-up anthem about her ex after masterpiece Without Me? But she did. Incredibly catchy, pissed, angry, but fun in many ways. Country-western motive in guitar riff on the instrumental is just insanely good! 09 Harry Styles | Watermelon Sugar "Breathe me in, breathe me out" The way this song captures summer feeling more than summer 2020 itself 08 JoJo | Man "I need somebody who can love me like I love me" This is the hit written all over it! It's so sexy, flirtatious, infectious self-independent anthem! 07 Jessie Ware | Save a Kiss "You save the best for the last" A pop perfection! It's one of the easiest tracks from What's Your Pleasure. It's optimistic and upbeat, and kinda reminds of Body Talk sound. It's celebratory of love and disco pop music. 06 Lady Gaga | Stupid Love "I would battle for you even if I break in two" Despite most of atrl, I loved this song from the leak. Just like it's cover and music video, it's colorful carnival of emotions, bright lights, loud drums, electronic noises. It's joyful banger, that reminds me of BTW days. 05 Miley Cyrus | Midnight Sky "I was born to run, I don't belong to anyone" Edge of Seventeen of this century. Perfection. And Miley new look and album suits her so well. I'm glad she found herself finally. 04 Grimes | Delete Forever "Flowing to the sun, ****ing heroin" I would never expect her to release such an heartbreaing ballad. It just breaks my heart when I heard it first. Amazingly beautiful and touching with incredible folk-inspired banjo instrumental, that helps to catch that feeling. 03 Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande | Rain on Me "I hear the thunder coming down, won't you rain on me?" A collaboration I never knew I needed in my life Triumphant euphoric pop anthem, that sounds fresh, theatrical and bangerish at the same time. A pop perfection indeed. 02 Harry Styles | Adore You "Strawberry lipstick state of mind" I never really cared about Harry's music, but it's this song that pushed me into stanning for Fine Line. It's absolute album highligh. It sounds modern and nostalgic, happy and bittersweet, upbeat and sad at the same time. It's double nature makes this funk pop song complex and did a bit magic on it. It's music video perfectly captures my feelings toward this song. I felt sad, but sit down through this with a smile on my face. 01 Jessie Ware | Spotlight "Words can never do the things that I need them to" This is ****ing classic. Slow-burner pulsing fierce jam, every second of it is a pleasure. The best disco pop this year.
