Bobby Womack's on the radio Singing to me, "If you think you're lonely now" And then I hear Babyface "I only think of you" If she hadn't reference them, the song would have had just four writers. Yup. However Lynyrd Skynyrd references Neil Young's "Southern Man" on "Sweet Home Alabama" but Neil Young doesn't have writing credits on it and the writers of "In My Feelings" don't have writing credits on Taylor Swift's "I Forgot That You Existed". I'm not sure if that's just a difference in how those songs were referenced or if Mariah was just playing it safe.

That seems like it makes things kind of tricky considering you’re counting samples for two songs and all four members of B2M when Mariah wrote the lyrics of her half, but I guess it’s understandable to have to abide by a methodology for all.

Yeah, ideally I'd have access to the song ownership stats which might show that Mariah owns a bigger slice of the pie than the songwriters whose songs she samples or than the individual members of B2M on One Sweet Day but without that info I just have to go by the number of co-writers. I'm pretty sure Billboard just uses the number of co-writers for their songwriter charts too, I don't think they have access to the ownership shares.
Cherry123 Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 The amount of 100% That´s the key to top the list and now I´m not sure Dr. Luke and Max Martin will be that high.
Ash12345 Posted December 10, 2019 Author Posted December 10, 2019 95. Barry White Points: 16,761 Although Barry White had musical talents from a young age, playing the organ and singing in church as a child and playing piano on a minor R&B hit when he was 11 years old, his career in music didn't begin as a recording artist. As a young man, he spent most of the 60s as an A&R man and it was only in the 1970s that he began his solo career, and also founded female R&B trio Love Unlimited. Knows for his deep sexy voice, he became one of the most successful soul and disco singers of the 1970s and his music has been sampled in several songs since. Yeah a lot of the top songwriters that haven't been mentioned by the posters here have a lot of those.
trainsskyscrapers Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 I never knew "No, No, No" sampled Barry White. It seems like Bey & Co. have known from the beginning of their careers that it's easier to credit all influences on a certain song than to have the estates of icons come after you after the fact. Paying homage done right.

She was quoting there songs. The Taylor and Lynyrd were more like shout-outs. Mariah did the same in Breakdown for "I will survive".
1989 Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 I didn’t realize that he had so many solo credits, wow.
kibo Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 do we actually expect the girlies to make the list?

Mr. Wonder Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 I'm guessing Stevie Wonder will be #1? Very few of his top 10 hits have cowriters.
