  1. Okay I adore It Don't Mean A Thing too
  2. Of what we hadn't heard yet, Really Real, Light Up, and Into The Sun were the standouts to me. But there are no bad songs tbh. All the singles sound great in context. I need a few more listens to digest it all, but I really like it! It feels like a callback to self-titled and Body Talk-era Robyn. My first impression is that it's colder and very sleek compared to Honey. Where Honey is kind of sprawling and trance-like in parts, these are the well-constructed, compact pop songs Robyn is known for. I'm not mad at it!
  3. was never really familiar with the original, but this redux of 'blow my mind' is giving prince and masseduction-era st. vincent and tbh i adore !
  4. i'm on my third proper listen and it's really starting to open up. this might be my favorite album of hers since be the cowboy. i think it's easy to initially write this off as TLIIASAW 2.0 (guilty) but to me it sounds more like she's combining her guitar-driven writing style from 2014-16 with more fleshed out orchestration. i love it! also, i take back what i said about 'charon's obol' - gorgeous all around, especially lyrically.
  5. i do find myself wondering if she's got another 'be the cowboy' in her, sonically speaking. i've liked the last few albums but none really touch BTC in how brilliantly varied it is.
  6. at the listening party it was impossible to tell just how intricate this is! on a first proper listen, the only place the album kind of slumps for me is 'charon's obol,' but i'm sure it'll grow. another gorgeous 30 min album from the queen of editing
  7. went to a listening party today
  8. the album is incredible. discography highlight for me. 'funny mouth' really got me though. she's truly never sounded like that and i'm so into it.
  9. this is a sound i've been excited for her to explore more! so excited for the album.
  10. mitski going full puberty 2 on this ****?? now that's what i call 2016! (complimentary)

    oh reliquia is GORGEOUS
  14. it IS brat 2. feels like the perfect companion piece and also has the pop 2 collaborative ethos.
  15. i am gaggedddd the way this is basically a fully new album. EIR remix is a highlight.
  16. i'm a little unsure on how their voices blend on the chorus, i wish they'd done some harmonies instead of singing in unison. i was hoping empress of would add more vocally (or production-wise even). but the new vocal takes from allie sound great to me tbh.
  17. definitely prefer this to the antonoff production on sling, but it still lags in some spots. immunity remains, well, immune. i also wish the songs on charm centered her voice a bit more. sometimes i feel like she's lost in the mix. immunity puts her front and center and i love that.
  18. absolutely. lucky stans won
  19. i think they're being delulu but i will be kinda gagged if it's true
  20. yeah i don't understand the desire for the album to sound like the boiler room set. she invited a bunch of her collaborators to play at a party that was teasing an album we didn't know the title or release date of at the time... of course they weren't just gonna play the studio album tracks straight through. anyway, the singles are 4/4 for me (5/5 counting talk talk lol) and i couldn't be more excited to hear the rest.
  21. these leaked lyrics... she wasn't kidding about them reading like group chat messages. it all feels very off the cuff. makes me even more excited! also, US angels, looks like there are album listening parties taking place on june 4 at local record stores! one participating store just posted this:
  22. she recently did an interview where she was asked if there are any ballads on brat. it was on a podcast, therapuss with jake shane, and they talk about it right at the 22 min mark of the episode. she said there are two "downtempo" songs on brat. she describes the first one being about feeling out of place and uncomfortable at parties. in a recent rolling stone UK interview, this same theme came up and is attributed to the track "i might say something stupid." she says the other slower song is about motherhood, which is "i think about it all the time." a demo for this leaked late last year. so yeah i think this performance of "so i" is similar to what happened with "twice" where the album version will be more fleshed out than the initial performance.
  23. i finally got my vinyl and played it all the way through again and yeah this is AOTY
  24. to me, this album also synthesizes most of the sonic territory she's covered with her albums to date, or at least since strange mercy. all while maintaining cohesion. it's pretty impressive.
