  1. Going on another hiatus. Can't wait to see what changes in a month
  2. Nnn as much as we want him to, Joe Manchin is not going anywhere. Manchin is moderate Rep by today's standards, but "moderate" is not as powerful as "conservative" in WV so he probably sees it in his best interests to run as a conservative Dem cause his votes don't hold up as a conservative Rep. Highkey Dems need a 52-48 majority because of the predictable clownery Manchin is gonna pull. Sinema is lowkey one of the most conservative Dems also, but sis is making moves so the next Dem can get elected in Arizona. I expect her to go full SJW once we have a bifecta
  3. Oh wow. I never heard this put in that context before. I have been more focused on the fact that "moderate" Dems of the 90s/00s were the conservative Dems of the 10s, and most, if not all, had gotten voted out in 2018
  4. I will not lie, I'm loving the concept that Pete was going for. Definitely too many specific tabs that I think could be synthesized under more generalized tabs, and having the videos open to the side of the question would be much more user friendly and easy on the eyes; but other than that, the intention is there and it is unique
  5. Is Politico turning into CNN cause some of their clickbait/flamebait are becoming out of line? This article is just so... trash. At one moment it talks about how Elizabeth Warren changed her politics once she started studying the family economics of bankruptcy, but then it derides her by trying to make it seem as if she was an unabashed Republican going against her Democratic parents and communities' traditions, when in reality those Dems were actually Dixiecrats that became Republican converts at about the same time that Warren switched to the Democratic Party I'm just seeing on Twitter people are taking this article way out of context too. The same people that are about PoLiCY!! are ripping into Liz Warren because apparently she was so privileged that she only focused on policy and not the politics that affect those policies until around the time of her conversion to the Democratic. Like she checked her privileged and educated herself. Those lot and the lot of you that are like that are hypocrites and so ****ing annoying that you deserve 4 more years of Trump https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2019/04/12/elizabeth-warren-profile-young-republican-2020-president-226613
  6. fjkdsalhefld the way attitudes on WikiLeaks have switched along partisan lines
  7. I keep forgetting Claire McCaskill is now at MSNBC. Ugh it's like I can't escape from that bitch. I'm applying for internships in DC so this woman better stay at home and not become a spokesperson at my next internship
  8. Does Ellen even like being on The Ellen Show anymore? There's been such a difference in her character from before and after Oprah packed her bags and made OWN Also, I feel I've figured out my indifference towards Pete stems from the fact that I associate a lot of who Pete is with one of my friends. Literally the Korean Pete albeit younger, Korean, and not gay. They sound the exact same, hair and clothes the same, philosophy the same. I wish the best for my friend but I could not see him as president...
  9. Technically Poliquin won the popular vote in ME-2 but no one had a true majority, so they resorted to ranked choice voting and that's how Poliquin lost Wait, does Maine's ranked choice voting also apply to presidential elections cause if so we may not have to worry that much about ME-2? Yall Dems next initiatives should be to **** up red states with ranked-choice. The absolute slayage we would have in LA, Mississippi, and Alabama if they did ranked-choice instead of a runoff. Thicky Thighs-Smith would have gone back home to her confederate flags instead of winning against Espy
  10. Tbh Beto has been pretty absent broadcast interviews since he's more focused on being on the ground with voters whereas as Pete has been on so many news shows compared to the other candidates. Out of all the top 2020 contenders outside of Biden, Beto has been one of the only ones not to have a CNN town hall. I wish he would do that and more sit down interviews, but I guess Beto thinks always being on the road is a better strategy than always being on the networks
  11. But not all of the boroughs are here for AOC. Staten Island is more conservative, and parts of Queens and Manhattan prefer someone like Cuomo to AOC That said, the kii I will let out if AOC proves me wrong and out primaries Gillibrand or Schumer...
  12. This... is kind of hot ngl Also I can't help but kii at Gillibrand's polling numbers. Sis should've sat there and ate her food knowing full well Ms. Kamala and Sra. Warren were pulling up on the Dems. 99-100-OUT teas
  13. You are lying to yourself if you think Bernie has a less dodgy track record than Kamala and Beto whose elected political careers started in the 2000s. Bernie's been in politics for over 30 years and has done and said very questionable things that are selectively ignored by his klan
  14. Stop lying. Pete is a different story, but Bernie is very easy to drag wym
  15. Whatever helps the Bernie Bats sleep at night. Bernie supporters are the most self-hating lot after Trump supporters but before actual roaches
  16. Beto has been Beto since a child, and he does not use his name to pander. He actually knows he to speak fluent Spanish long before it became commonplace to just know Spanish to get ahead in life because that is the culture of most border towns in the South. He goes down to Ciudad Juarez often and can engage in conversation with Hispanic families because he can understand where their concerns are coming from. If you speak to him in Spanish, he will respond to you in Spanish. I know because I've met him. I've witnessed how he interacts with people who come up to him. You know nothing about who Beto is, and it's this type of behavior by Bernie Bots that I'm not surprised anymore by since yall are programmed to discriminate against any and everything that isn't Bernie or his rhetoric. Most of you lot are not even socialist. You just want some septuagenerian white millionaire to tell you what to do. Yikes
  17. A white man talking about free public college and M4A doesn't mean diverse electorates will pay him too much mind when he's also on record on multiple occasions using the term "identity politics" to negate the reality of racially influenced classism in this country, and using the "American worker" trope to demonize immigrant families as detriments to the white working class in this country You also seem awfully sure that Bernie just has it in the bag. For someone so concerned about my focus on the general, maybe stay focused on Bernie losing favorability to Joe Biden in the early state primary polls recently. I'll stay focused on how my candidate has already scheduled canvasses nationwide this weekend at the same that he will be in South Carolina while Bernie sticks to yelling at the podium this weekend That said, maybe Bernie should focus on letting us know where he definitively is on the issues. I can tell you where Beto stands. Command+C, Command+V Imma turn in now, probably bake some chicken nuggets before going to sleep. Looking forward to waking up, getting dressed, and walking to class and around Manhattan with my BETO hat on
  18. Betocrats are very much in solidarity with the Kamalliance. I have yet to meet or see a Beto supporter that is opposed to Kamala being part of our ticket, whether or not she's the one that gets the nomination or if it ends up being Beto. We have the best shots at flipping Texas and Georgia, probably even Arizona, NC, and Florida. The odds are more in our favor if we snatch the nomination or the VP pick
  19. Does anyone feel like Bernie is wanting to hide something from his taxes from before 2008? Literally no reason to not have released ten years of your taxes when Hillary did it in 2015 and Bernie was barking about people not paying their taxes back then. I also don't think it should be given second thought to release your taxes from that time unless you 1) don't have all your taxes from back then, or 2) you're worried about something on your taxes that you don't want people to see
  20. I agree with the prison system being for profit but ~8.5% of imprisoned Americans are in private prisons. That's not to say the trend in private prisons isn't shocking, but there's greater issue with the profits of prison labor than the switch to private prisons in the US. The same logic would be better applied to Wisconsin where the only thing it is good for is for the electoral votes tbh. Both Wisconsin and Florida are tossups nowadays, but they have been voting for president the same since 1928 albeit for two times in that period when Wisconsin voted for a Rep (1944) and a Dem (1988). The fact that Florida has close races year after year shouldn't discourage Dems from abandoning it, and even if Florida votes Rep, the number of House seats are a lot more valuable than the max 4 we would get from Wisconsin if gerrymandering were not a problem. It sucks that a state like Florida carries so much weight in potentially deciding a race, but at the end of the day it's nothing it's not like it's consistently voting Republican by large margins
  21. I don't think people in prison should be allowed to vote. Jail is a different story, but if you are in prison, you are most likely there as a result of a serious felony that should be punishable by a restriction to your voice in this country's politics. However, the US is lagging in criminal justice by punishing some drug crimes as felonies, and using prisons to keep felons away from the public instead of rehabilitating them so that they can be reintegrated into society. The First Sep Act is gonna be touted by Republicans to greenlight their discriminatory tendencies but we need to be conscious of who is making the legislation like this and what is included in it. For example, the First Step Act provides more feminine hygiene products to female inmates, reformed the parameters for juvenile solitary confinement, and improved data collection efforts for and educational programs in prisons... but it also allows the following: #4 in that additional markets list is terrifying since this allows 501(c)(3)s, e.g. charities and private foundations, 501(c)(4)s, e.g. Super PACs, and 501(d)s, e.g. religious organizations, to benefit from prison labor. What would non-profits like these need prison labor for other than to keep wages low and profits high? Like this part of the bill is kind of striking since it essentially implies at least 15% of inmate compensation will go to a fund to help with release costs. However, if you're only making $2/hour, it's very ****ed up that your prison can decide to save you the minimum amount: I think the next move in CJR is to push the ultimatum that we either increase prisoner wages to the minimum wage in place or treat prisoners as federal workers if they are gonna be employed through public prisons. Truth be told, they should be both imo, but these oversights I have mentioned from the First Step Act are highkey intentional imo and pose a threat to prisoner rehabilitation and would continue to stoke recidivism
  22. Ngl I feel a lot of pundits are not bringing this map into the discussion enough. There is a very good likelihood that if either ME-2 or NE-2 go blue and the other goes red in 2020, we'll end up with a situation where we'll end up losing the election because we won't have the majority congressman advantage across 26 states At max, I count us as having only 24 states, with Michigan and PA being big what-ifs since those states have even numbered delegations and Dems managed to tie Reps for delegates in those states. If we lose just one seat in those states, I would not hold it against Republicans to go against the popular vote to vote in Trump. However, if this 269-269 reality is on the docket, our only hope in the House if MI, ME, and PA delegations remain the same is if Montana flips and we gain majority delegations in either AK, WI, TX, NC, or FL, all of which are longshots given GOP predominance and very skewed gerrymandering The main upside I see in this situation is the Senate decides the VP, and if we can flip at least 4/5 of the seats in play (depending if Doug Jones gets reelected thought that seems unlikely imo) in either Iowa, Maine, AZ, CO, NC, maybe even MT, GA + TX, we can at least have that Dem influence in the Senate If we end up at a tie in the Senate in this scenario, though, that means Nancy will be acting president which is lowkey iconic. However, if we end up in a tie in the House, which could be a possibility if we only flip MT and every delegation votes along party lines, then we'll end up with Mitch McConnell as acting president if the Senate hasn't decided on the VP, which would be the acting president. That's ****ing scary since I would not hold against that turtle and his party to stall that Senate vote. Not only that, this seems like a massive oversight in our Constitution since that basically implies that we could technically have an indefinite period where either the Speaker or Majority Leader could essentially lead the country so long as those tie votes remain in state delegations and no acting VP is elected. I don't think that will happen since if Lean R states vote in moderate Dems in the House, they'll eventually crumble to the political pressure and vote for whoever the Republican is All that said, I know some of you think this unlikely to happen but the sad reality is that it is more likely than ever to happen now than it has ever been given the trends we've been seeing in American politics recently and how . Wisconsin is highkey the make or break of 2020
  23. This is the same Trump map I had in mind except for Maine's state electoral vote which is Lean D. I feel the main reason that vote in Maine was so close was because of Hillary's unpopularity amid the email "scandal" and the Benghazi smear campaign against her
  24. Let's not give credit where credit isn't due. Pete didin't coin "democratic capitalism," and that concept actually been around since before the turn of the 80s. Let's give Pete credit for making that an initiative in his campaign, but let's also give credit to Andrew Yang who is bringing the much newer concept of "human capitalism" to the mainstream
