Political Thread: 2018-2020 ?? Biden-Harris Win POTUS
I think Ossoff can do it! I really think Warnock can do it too, even if it has to be in a special election. I think the two of them are some of the best Senate candidates we have in competitive races this year (in addition to Greenfield).

This isn't that surprising to me. People understand the consequences.

It makes strategic sense. I’m a believer in doing both (persuasion and motivating the base), but it’s not a zero sum game where one is more important than the other.

Hard disagree when we have a current lawless POTUS that makes up laws without Congress’ action. The Trumpies do what they want and wait to get sued ... which can take years to resolve. It sucks.

I have to say this convention has far exceeded my expectations under the circumstances. The people who pulled this together should be very proud of their work.

Between the tragic story of the woman who lost her father to COVID, Bernie, and then Michelle, it was a huge success tonight

Gnite all. Be blessed, and do something tomorrow to help elect Democrats in 81 days!- Political Thread: 2018-2020 ?? Biden-Harris Win POTUS
A great reminder of what's at stake when Republicans control government. We have a chance in this and every future election to make sure that doesn't happen.- Political Thread: 2018-2020 ?? Biden-Harris Win POTUS
a) if people vote for Democrats again - they have ~15 seat majority, so the margin isn't huge b) you cited one thing you don't like (a valid criticism), but can't seriously think there's 100% no difference between the hundreds of bills Dems pass and those Paul Ryan passed as Speaker, thus making a Dem House useless. AOC proudly touts amendments and legislation of hers that gets incorporated into bills passed by the House (https://ocasio-cortez.house.gov/media/press-releases/amendment-defund-operation-legend-passes-house-voice-vote) c) Bernie and Warren types have WAY more influence in the Senate D caucus than they did in 2009. The fillibuster needs to go away, and I think it could be really exciting to see what makes it across the finish line in that context. Meanwhile McConnell is standing in the way of desperately needed COVID and economic relief passed by the House as we speak. There's a pretty big difference. d) This is not true. Judges have to be appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate. There is no filibuster on judicial appointments, so Trump and McConnell just needed 50 Republican votes, which they always had. If Dems have control w/ a Dem president - dramatically different judges get appointed and confirmed. If Dems control the Senate with Trump in power, they will slow walk and block judges the way McConnell did with Obama.- Political Thread: 2018-2020 ?? Biden-Harris Win POTUS
So they're doing it for self-preservation rather than because it's the right thing to do? Seems like AOC and Bernie's calls to vote up and down the ticket for Dems to avoid Republican control of government and to create more opportunities to advance their priorities are because they believe it and because they think it's the right thing to do. But you say otherwise, so I must have that wrong- Political Thread: 2018-2020 ?? Biden-Harris Win POTUS
We stan the Einstein songwriter, so of course we have exceptional good judgment- Political Thread: 2018-2020 ?? Biden-Harris Win POTUS
I'd go further...4 years of Betsy DeVos, Sessions/Barr, Stephen Miller, Labor Secs Acosta/Scalia etc have been devastating. Trump/McConnell's judicial appointments will have devastating consequnces over their lifetime appointments to the courts. My view is that it is a moral imperative to do everything possible to prevent Republicans from having this power ever again. I applaud those who take that responsibility seriously while simultaneously working to make the Democratic party more representative of their political views. Some on here aren't with that program, and I cannot understand that stance, but I also get by the way people post that there's nothing I could do or say that would change that. Hopefully there are some on here lurking who've felt persuaded- Political Thread: 2018-2020 ?? Biden-Harris Win POTUS
The key difference is they are emphatically supporting D candidates to avoid devastating, worse policy. They are asking everyone who supports them to do the same. Of course you're entitled to do whatever you want, but you shouldn't be surprised if you face criticsm for not doing everything you can to prevent Republican control of agencies, judicial appointments, and legislative chambers. I'm personally very supportive of the pressure being put on the Democratic party, and primary challenges to safe Dem incumbants that don't represent the values of their districts (i.e. Cori Bush, etc). I'm also supportive of the party doing everything it can to win tough R-leaning Senate seats, even if it means doing so with candidates to the right of my personal politics. These conversations are good for our democracy, and I'm glad we have progressive public servants willing to do the hard work of making a lasting impact. I'm pleased that Bernie and AOC apprecaite the long game here, know what's at stake, and are being very vocal about what we all need to do in November and beyond.- Political Thread: 2018-2020 ?? Biden-Harris Win POTUS
Which is very different from the comprehensive call to action Bernie and AOC are making up and down the ballot. And the reason they're urging support for D candidates everywhere and opposition to R candidates everywhere is because they get what's at stake, and they want to avoid adding to the devistation vulnerable people face with Republican control of federal agencies and Republican presidential appointments to the judiciary. And they want a Dem President to sign some of their priorities into law and will use their power within the party to create those opportunities. They get it, and I'm pleased they're being really clear about our responsibility to avoid this devastation. - Political Thread: 2018-2020 ?? Biden-Harris Win POTUS
