Wet V has grown on me so much, it’s the perfect follow up to demons  I wish WYM was added before demons, it fits the first half much better

Her vision was to lean more toward hip-hop and be taken seriously as a rapper from what I understand? But she's rapping about absolute nonsense for the better part of the album. Not that we look to Doja for any deep, introspective narrative but if she's not going to have much to say, I at least expected it be lyrically impressive... which most of it is not. A lot of the lyrics range from basic to cringe to what I would hear a white suburban middle school girl freestyle at the lunch table. On top of that, her flow, delivery, and overall charisma also all take a huge step back from her previous work, which all made her one of the more interesting artists to check out IMO. What, of anything, redeeming is leftover?

 

Ouchies is a standout, 97 is the closest to what I initially thought she'd be going for with this album, Agora Hills was a nice change of pace, and there are some nice vibes on the second half but even on those, the pen game is a dragggggg.

 

In a nutshell the impression left was some great production, impressive versatility, cringe lyrics, and repetitive song structures and choruses. You can tell she wrote this entire thing solo.

 

You can feel her passion and tell she's trying to prove something, but I'm not sure if she even knows exactly what she's trying to prove. The majority of the album seems very empty and aimless. A waste of some killer album rollout aesthetics.

Facts were stated. I agree in a lot of ways. I was so ready for her to step into the  hip hop world and burst it open. When I think about the aggression on songs like Rules, Get Into Yuh, etc… the potential she had here was crazy. But beyond the flow, I feel like she spent the entire album basically ranting about Twitter interactions, and nothing really important enough that fit the tone of her voice.
 

Okay, I’m gonna step back from my critiques, but I just had to speak on this post.

 

Agora Hills…. OMG. Can we say #1 hit. Let’s go. It’s so perfect for the fall, it’s a crime!

My biggest critique of this album is that the second half is sorta lacking in identity which gives it the impression that it’s samey. And despite them looking like fan favorites, I think the main culprits are the 1-2-3 punch of Often, Love Life and Skull and Bones. Often is a slight exception but these three kind of don’t feel like they belong on what “Scarlet” sorta seemed like it was aiming for and they bloat the track list a little bit.

 

Maybe they’d be better on a deluxe but I feel like if those 3 got removed the track list would be flawless.

Skull and Bones is one of the best songs on the album though? Agree about the other two

Streaming has really ruined promo. The girls used to travel all over the world to promote back when they relied in iTunes
