I like it but How Long is such a #28 or #19 song how did it sneak so high :rip:Technically being the lead single I guess?

What I want from top 10 but know I won't get it (also being ambitious putting all 4 artists in the top 4 jsiodhisodhsio)

10. How Long

9. 2 Die 4

8. Talking to Yourself

7. Surrender My Heart

6. Anxious

5. Bad Thing Twice

4. Frankenstein

3. Constant Repeat

2. No One Dies from Love

1. The Loneliest Time

Posted

Frankenstein is the only Rina song I rated above a 7. so I'm happy with it surviving.

Constant Repeat is a 10.

My average rate for the 5 (!!!) remaining Carly songs is 9.9 :clap3:

My average rate for the 3 remaining Tove Lo songs is 9.67 :clap3:

and my 11 is still in. :gaycat:

Back to Charli at #17 as we say goodbye to “Lightning”. This darkwave, vocoder-filled banger was used as the opener on Charli’s biggest tour yet back in 2022. Charli says the song is “super important” to her as it was made with Ariel Rechtshaid, who she has been regularly collaborating with since she was 17, back in the True Romance days. She goes on to say “it really embodies that 80’s emotional spirit and drama, which was really inspiring me for this record.” @Ewan Chaos explains how the song aged for him “This used to be top 1 for me... idk I ended up feeling like for being one of the longer songs on the album, it really FEELS too long. Fantastic tour opener though.” @Rev8 disses fellow ATRLers “the way so many ppl stan this overrated trash. Be Mad”

The title track and opener of Charli’s fifth studio album is out next. “Crash” is an 80s inspired, Janet Jackson-esque, fast paced intro into Charli’s most emotionally chaotic album yet. The track definitely manages to convey the destructive and disorderly themes of the album succinctly and effectively, and might just be her best opener ever. While Charli has cited Janet as one of her main inspirations for a while, this is the first time I’ve really been able to hear the inspiration come to the forefront of her music. @Ewan Chaos seems to agree “Fantastic new jack swing track. I understood what she kept saying about this being her "Janet" album when this came on.” @Virgos Groove backs up the point concisely “The spirit of Janet took over her.” @pavi expresses his disappointment in Charli’s recent album openers “She needs to step up her opening track game past Pop 2, they always feel like afterthoughts  ” @supaspaz says “Our cultural embrace of exceedingly short tracks is stupid – two minutes barely constitutes a song – but this is 129 seconds of coked-out excellence.”

This top ten is such a mess! How is "Frankenstein" Rina's highest-ranked song? And the fact that Charli could potentially get chopped first. Yikes! At least Carly is dominating with some good tracks.

Carly is truly the Atrl darling :bibliahh:how can the floppiest time occupy half of top 10:deadbanana4:

How, how long have you loved another, while I'm dreamin' of us together?

At #10 we have the Euphoria Season 2 soundtrack single, “How Long” by Tove Lo. The song sees Tove in a state of desperation as she “confronts the emotional betrayal of unrequited love”. The lyrics loosely borrow inspiration from the storyline of two characters in Euphoria, Maddy and Nate. The synthpop production is edgy and mysterious and creates an uneasy atmosphere mirroring the lyrics’ dark tone. @cockatoo says “I can't believe she relegated this banger to a euphoria soundtrack song…” and @pavi says “Could've easily served as the opening track of this abum!!”. @Ewan Chaos calls the song a “grower”.

Lovers (10s and 11s):

I still stand by the song being a grower. Didn't care much for it initially, but that might have been because she gave it to Euphoria so I kinda ignored it assuming it wouldn't be on the new album nn. Too high tbh but glad it's out first of this lot at least!

The first artist to fully be evicted from the rate is, unsurprisingly, Rina Sawayama. “Frankenstein” exits at a respectable #09. Rina describes the song as revolving around “the idea of someone putting me back on my feet when I'm broken”. She goes on to say “I am in pieces, before being recomposed by a person who reassembles the parts. It's a very human and realistic experience, of rebuilding, of creating a new me.” The production is tense and messy, with many different segments varying in loudness and tempo, reflecting the idea of being put constructed with differing parts. I never would have expected this song to beat out other Hold The Girl tracks into the top 10, such as Imagining or even Holy (Til You Let Me Go) but I’m not necessarily complaining.

Tove loses her second of three top 10 finishers with “2 Die 4” departing at #08. It was released as the third single for the Dirt Femme album and was teased along with “True Romance” at Tove’s first live show since the pandemic. The track heavily interpolates the famous 1969 instrumental by Gershon Kingsley, best known for Hot Butter’s 1972 version. @Ewan Chaos quotes the songwriter herself “You could argue the sample is a bit lazy, but I think it's perfect for a fun little bop like this? As Tove said herself: It works.” @Supervillain says “this aged like milk... :rip: ” while @Miichael disagrees and says “Production is unreal, so addictive.” @Love Again says “cindy... this is excellence. pop perfection. miss tove u done it again girl consistently raising the bar for all of us homosexuals” and @cockatoo says “Should've been the lead”.

Lovers (10s and 11s):
