Harrier Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 This is a mess like we've never seen before in K-pop - a public ass video?

mathekr Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 The CFO presented a very compelling case on the video. Especially the breakdown in percentages of what would mean if HYBE's acquisition goes through would mean to the K-Pop industry revenue. That's a pretty baffling monopoly, SM have a point I fear.

When contract renewals are up a lot of current SM artists will leave :/ I care mostly for red velvet I hope whatever they decide to do they re able to have cbs as a group

Gwendolyn Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 What I consider weird is the fact they suddenly bring up 'Pink Bloods' like it's some kpop group event, not like it's a major corporation having a few business scuffles with another. The fact this is even ADDRESSED to fans and not shareholders in the first place comes across as embrassing, unprofessional and crosses the line into parasocial terrority.
gugunikko Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Next they gonna have the idols doing the presentations
thirdward Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 when they start telling aespa fans to sign a petition for the album
thirdward Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 this is kinda the fight of the biggest company stans

That’s probably their last attempt tho, at least it’s what it feels like — their last hurrah. Not to mention that it could backfire terribly if netizens decide not to side with them, which gives this vibe that they have nothing to lose. Edited February 20, 2023 by conquxror
MusicFan98 Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 This is so terrible tbh, they should've let LSM doing whatever he wanted and not mess with him if they didn't have a way of stopping this mess.
conquxror Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I think they made their fair points especially about SM’s legacy and the whole kpop monopoly that HYBE is attempting to create and that could eventually RUIN the kpop experience, i hope people side with them on this — even if i think sm as a company is at their worse right now in terms of quality, hybe taking over just feels… wrong

I agree, I mean he knows his job/position in the company is most likely over, so he has nothing to lose
Harrier Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I'm suspicious of the video and SM management's motives - it's self interested because he's gonna be out of a job soon. But here's one thing I know. SM's style & flavor will not survive a hostile takeover from Hybe. Employees would change. Higher ups will leave. Even some artists may jump ship. As much as Hybe's output has been much better in the last 12 months, SM has 15+ years of fantastic albums, vocals, performances, groups. I would be genuinely sad to see the structures that have created that disappear. With the loss of YYJ and LSM that might be inevitable regardless, but still.

The title of the video was a little bit too clickbait for me, but the content does make sense. Plus their opinion is that this is a hostile takeover, which is probably why they are being so bold to get their points across. Making this video public is also obviously an attempt to sway public opinion against HYBE.
rapperjennie Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 SM and their dramatics At the end of the day the SM staff are going to leave, how are they going to stop the takeover realistically?

SM alone is almost as big as HYBE’s entire monopoly, they’re not some midsize company like Pledis with 3 active idols or something. NCT alone are 3 groups, not to mention the amount of active idols they have signed and the huge team that it probably takes to make everything work. There’s just no way they would be able to handle that kind of demand. HYBE’s 100% biting more than they can chew and it would be pretty disastrous for SM.
