For those who watch the Produce/Girls/Boys planet, how do eliminations work? This is my first time actually watching The show

does the fan voting determine who gets cut or is it the panel of judges?

I think is a combination of both, but in the end the producers kinda lean into who they want to debut and push for them

it feels a retaliation from LSM for what SM did with kakao, a mess all around

This is 100% what it probably is, the statement released pretty much suggested it. Chris Lee sided with Kakao, so LSM turned to HYBE. A total mess.

I'll be interested to see what Kakao responds with. They just dropped like $200M on shares which now don't have the effect they wanted, since HYBE now has way more.

Can’t believe Hybe basically became kind of the Universal Music of Kpop in less than 5 years

They are the Warner Music of kpop.

This is so boring too, like what's the point Hybe buying all companies, like where's the competition, the creativity, the fun and mess of it all?? They just want the money and we'll have to accept whatever they give us because there will be no other choices left:rip:

The recent waves of mergers was to gather together all this IP to increase your bargaining power against the streaming services.  But it seems like post-pandemic, the other advantage to gather artists together is to have some kind of bargaining power in the touring field.  We see with the recent ticketmaster issues along with the way entities who control exhibition spaces in Europe and America are really going past the proverbial pound of flesh just to hold a concert somewhere, controlling all the product would be one way to combat singular entities who control everything on the other side.

Idk, this press release kinda make it seem like Hybe agreed to keep LSM as a director.

It’s insane how Game of Thrones this all is, and it’s rooted in just how successful BTS was :rip:

LSM needs to make aespa rush-release a DISS track against the HYBE groups

imagine Giselle and Karina rapping about MHJ being sus, Sakura's nosejob, BTS' horrible english songs...

it could be a moment

LSM needs to retire but grandpa is entertaining af - from being on most wanted Interpol list to now pulling this kind of makjang move. I don't want SM to be acquired by Hybe but their business moves are perfect. Bang PD is doing something that YG should've done at a Big Bang's peak popularity instead of pimping, threatening trainees and supplying drugs to YGE HQ.

Bang PD and LSM having a shared vision for the Kpop industry :biblio:

Does this involve vocal lessons?:dancehall2:

This is the original deal Lee Sooman had with CJENM and the first deal he had with Kakao that annoyed the shareholders as Lee Sooman was selling the company without actually selling the company.

Then the other shareholders tried to do the same thing, essentially selling Lee Sooman's shares for him by diluting the shares in the deal with Kakao.  So Lee Sooman retaliated.  And Bang Sihyuk is no stranger to high risk finance.  Remember about 7 years ago he sold his company to some Singaporeans just to buy the company back like 30 days later.  He (or his advisors) know how to play this.

Lee as in LSM? So they're basically giving him power again?

Kakao now plotting to use some of the $966M investment they just got from Saudi Arabia (and Singapore) government last month to outbid HYBE in the tender offer for the 25% shares...

I mean this is a total mess :deadbanana4:

I truly hate HYBE even more if this is real :rip: the other side better sue LSM for this shady deal!

They're right.

BTS's impact goes beyond any group that has ever come out of Kpop. No one can deny that now.

Kind of makes me wonder if YG will fight that much harder to keep BlackPink. BP are the only other group to have any kind of Western success and pretty much the only reason why YG even still exists

what a mess tbh

When Hybe acquired Source Music and Pledis disbanding GFriend and Nuest was up first on the docket.

I see Hybe getting rid of SM acts that aren't bringing in money - the countless useless solos, units, etc. I also think by the end of the year some groups will be disbanded to make room for newer ones. I wouldn't be surprised to see the end of some 2nd and 3rd generation groups that aren't really doing much for the bottom line.

I do wonder if the "new sm girl group" will be shelved since that was from the SM board/Kakao side of things, which my understanding, are the losers in this acquisitions.

The thing is, that despite these projects not being "successful" they helped the company as a whole, sure, no one cares for a super junior release, but those groups have stans, and still sell, and those stans stay feeling as a part of the company just because of those "pointless" releases and on the long run the company can work with all of its artists in a more extended way since there will be fans from old groups, new groups and even random soloists.

There's a group that can generate more than Blackpink, and Seungri just got out of jail!
