The stars really did align with this, didn’t they? A massive pop star with cross-generational appeal, coming off the back of an image-rebuilding album campaign, a highly publicised breakup back story, relatable lyrics with a catchy melody & production with a cross-genre appeal… released at the peak of social media’s influence over streaming.

The song perfectly taps in to the nostalgia of the peak disco era, whilst still sounding current. Her distinct vocals lend itself to pop, country, rock and that helps her appeal to so many more people. The empowering message behind the song speaks to so many people. It’s a song that pretty much everyone can listen to and relate to or enjoy, that’s why it’s such a storming success.

This really has felt like a moment in pop culture. It’s like the entire world stopped to listen to this song, I can’t remember the last time a release became a pop culture phenomenon almost overnight like this. It’s been years. Such a joy to watch all of this unfold.

Not to mention it’s a visually & aesthetically pleasing era so far! Like.. just about *everything* is perfect. It’s all come together and they’ve got lightning in a bottle. I’m so excited to see how she carries this theme and aesthetic through the rest of the album.

points were made in every single sentence!

Can't they just release an artwork for the song? :doc:

There’s a very real possibility she’s going to do 100+ million streams in a week again this week, by the way :jonny5:

She’ll certainly do at least 90+ million, maximum probably around 107 - 108 million. Im not getting ahead of myself though.

All of this. No one deserves this moment more than her.  :cries:

Some people are always screaming "I wish x or y song had this success instead" and well, I'd obviously love if all Miley's singles went #1, but all of this slayage happening after Plastic Hearts feels like a full_circle.mp3 to me. It's like she's experiencing the result of all the hard work she did to reestablish her brand as a musician in the past years, it's part of what makes Flowers feels like a moment, like you said, rather than a random hit.

The amount of people on the Youtube section of songs like Angels Like You, Midnight Sky and Nothing Breaks Like a Heart saying things like "just got here from Flowers! had no idea Miley had so many good songs!" is a prove of that. She's a legend finally getting her flowers. :jonny:

Spotify thread updated, another excellent update with week-on-week decline staying around the -5% mark. It’s not showing any signs of free falling yet.

New official #1 with Finland

She's basically only missing Spain & Italy but I'm not sure she can overtake Shakira there

Do you have a list of all the official #1s?

Seeing Miley back on her throne makes me so proud.

Hard to tell because the Wikipedia page is a mess: it's full of Billboard charts but these charts aren't official in the respective countries :rip:

Australia

Austria

Belgium (Flanders)

Belgium (Wallonia)

Canada

Denmark

Finland

France

Germany

Hungary

Iceland

Ireland

Lithuania

Netherlands

NZ

Poland

Portugal

Sweden

Switzerland

UK

US

The ones I'm not sure about since it's about airplay:

Croatia

Israel

She's also #1 in Czech Republic & Slovakia but these ones are quite irrelevant since it's based on downloads.

She's missing Spain, Italy & MENA (the new IFPI chart for Middle-East/North Africa).

Yeah, Shakira is massive in Italy and Spain right now, Miley will probably peak at #2 in both countries, which is already an impressive feature for an english song.

Hope she get that #1 at the MENA chart.

Japan has Hot 100 chart, which is still to be referenced by Wiki. 100% she will be No. 1 in Russia too without any release date here.
