BnPac Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 At least people will remember and talk about the fact that Janet had such a record in the first place. Anyway congratulations to Taylor.
BnPac Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 In the physical era, it was also easier to keep smashing after the album's release, now it's nearly impossible and difficult so things even themselves out a bit.

Since when are deluxe songs not part of the era Thats like saying Super Bass isnt a top 3 hit off of pink friday lol Billboard changed the rule a week before “Part of Me” was scheduled to debut at #1 because the MJ stans were fuming. Had they continued to allow re-release tracks to count from the parent album, she would have officially broken the record for most #1s from an album. Mind you, they were perfectly fine with counting Usher and Rihanna’s add-on tracks (Confessions and Good Girl Gone Bad) years earlier, but it became a problem when MJ’s record became threatened.

I think this is a good way to think about it, both are equally impressive for different reasons

This is true too. An era could last 2 years, now most of the albums songs/singles peak during the album release in the streaming era. Harry's 3rd single for example peaked during the album release and went top 10 thanks to the streams and now it's not even on the top 200 of spotify despite of being top 10 on pop radio right now.

That was a few weeks after they changed the streaming/sales tracking week from Monday->Sunday to Friday->Thursday, and the reveal date from Wednesday to Monday. That was a real mess.
