Hmmm I’m gonna disagree! Even if your average ended up slightly lower, the range of scores you got was actually much smaller than Jackson’s, so yours was in a way a little more universal and that’s how they deservedly ended up close in score  a fantastic top 2 either way!

I think as long as what you are writing is coming from the lens of having a queer identity, and has some sort of discourse about pride (not specifically the event, but rather the song starts a conversation or gives an insight into queer life), then it should be fine.
