2024 US Election Megathread πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ›οΈ

Message added by Lee!!,

It was decided based on feedback from the spring 2023 town hall to transition this thread back to being election specific. With the Civics section being able to house specific threads on many issues, we think having a generalized politics thread is not completely necessarily anymore.Β
Β

With that said, please continue to be respectful and remember that you do not always need to respond to everyone.Β

One thing that might help Dems in 2024:

Β

If Trump does run in the primary (it's clear the big money donors want DeSantis, not Trump), when he loses to DeSantis he will do his usual 'IT WAS RIGGED' and tell his voters not to vote or Trump will run independent...which would mean whomever the Dem nominee is likely wins since that would split conservative votes.

Celebrating neoliberal wins in Europe in a thread centered around US politics because there's absolutely nothing positive going on for liberals here is just... :skull:Β

Β

You can really tell the girls are desperately trying to reassure themselves here. How embarrassing!Β @Communion

It will be trump/Desantis ticket more than likely. That’s why hes doing all he can to appeal to that base in FL.Β

DeSantis would give Trump nothing as a running mate. Trump would want someone loyal, especially since he felt betrayed by Pence.Β

A generic Republican, like Desantis, would have a better chance at beating Biden than Trump. Trump being the nominee would be an unneeded risk for Republicans. People would come out to vote Biden just to stop Trump. These voters would stay home if Biden ran against someone who they thought was less of a threat than Trump.
2024 is looking like either Biden vs Desantis or Harris vs Desantis, with Desantis winning. Trump will try to take credit for his win and declare himself a king maker. A Trump loyalist will be Desantis’s vp. Possibly Kim Reynolds to help lock down the MidwestΒ

Given how badly the Biden presidency has gone, and how many people are NOSTALGIC for how good things were under Trump, that seems like a real big assumption. Face it. Biden is MORE HATED THAN TRUMP by the American people right now, and that's not going to get any better by 2024. Rightly or wrongly, people feel Biden is too old and senile for the job, whereas only partisan Democrats and media talking heads ever claimed that about The Donald.

Β

Biden BARELY won against Trump when his approval ratings were like 50 points higher than where they are right now and he NEEDED mail-in ballots to do it which there won't be anywhere near the universal access to in a post-COVID election. People feel like the economy is in the dumpster, even though capitalism has never thrived better with record stock highs and low unemployment. Maybe neoliberals and capitalism enthusiasts should ask themselves why.

Β

They won't. Just like they never took any lessons from Clinton's well-earned loss to Trump. And they'll plug their ears when Kamala Harris gets stomped whenever she's forced down our throats as the nominee. Or when Pete also inevitably loses, for that matter.

I think people are miscalculating DeSantis's interest to be a running mate. He wants to be THE guy, not the second in command. Same thing with Trump.Β

Yeah Trump and DeSantis are going to destroy each other in the primaries, it's either going to be one or the other.

I think DeSantis will win. Trump (in true Trump fashion) will scream 'RIGGED' and tell his voters not to vote out of spite and/or run third party even

Β

Which would all be great for Dems.

Trump is the Republican Party. He will not screw them over that badly. He enjoys the influence he has over them and brags about how many republicans come to kiss his ring at mar a lago.Β If he thinks he won’t win the nomination, he just won’t run and say that it is because of health reasons. Trump is only running if his legal issues put him in a corner. If the Republican nominee wins, he will say it was because of him, if they lose, he’ll say that he would of wonΒ

You underestimate how toxic a Trump campaign is. I’m not saying that Biden would beat Trump again. But it would be way closer than it would need to be. A younger Republican that is not dripping in scandals would beat Biden at a way larger percentage than Trump. A Trump vs Biden rematch would be a coin flip

You underestimate how toxic Biden and the Democratic Party are right now. The GOP could run anybody and the Democrats would lose MASSIVELY due to how unpopular they are. Again, you and all the other Libs are missing out on the fact that Biden IS LESS POPULAR THAN TRUMP.

Β

What sucks is also that as unpopular and sure to lose as Biden is, everybody else would do even worse. That is absolutely DAMNING.Β :dies:Β

There's only so many time you can run before becoming a local joke.

You said he'd lose the primary cause he was sexist racist dinosaur with a history as a loser. HE WON

Then you said he'd lose the debate cause he was senile. HE WON

Then you said he'd lose the General cause he was weak with Latinos. HE WON

Β

How about some humility in those projections?

Not very good. The polls have DeSantis leading both Crist and Fried and somehow DeSantis' approval rating has gone up since going after the LGBT community, abortion rights etc,

He was on track to lose the primary until the party rigged it for him to win. :zzz:Β

Β

What debate did he win exactly? He came off as an unhinged, drooling mess every single time he got on stage. :zzz:Β

Β

As far as the general, he only won by 43,000 votes Β after Trump did everything he could to sabotage himself. Biden not winning by a much wider margin after all that is a damning indictment of the Democratic Party and himself. His approval among Latinos has since gotten even worse, to the point that it puts blue states like Nevada and New Mexico on the map for Republicans in 2024. :lmao:Β
