WHAT?! IBTAY is such a bop. I didn't even know about the song until I randomly saw her special on YouTube and it played in the outro during the credits. And the remix on the anniversary edition is pretty bop-worthy, even if it doesn't meet the caliber of her best remixes.

It's tough to watch her struggle during live performances but it's encouraging to see her take steps that seem to be reflective of an approach that keeps her vocal health in mind. We know her vocal nodules have been simultaneously a hindrance and unique advantage because she's somehow intuitively leveraged what might have sidelined any other singer's career into a massively unique strength, even though over the years has been progressively taking a toll. And through the eras, that intuitiveness of maxing out the potential of her voice has only become more limiting and constraining for her to circumvent in any healthy way. The demands of her success, her bipolar disorder causing her loss of sleep or even alcoholic abuse, and her propensity for exceeding what she probably what she should be singing (but probably also pressured by expectation), among other ups and downs, undoubtedly contributed to it, too. Yet, despite this, she consistently still delivers high quality music. Her album 'Caution' is a testament to her enduring commitment to her music and her fans. Having missed the chance to see her perform live in her prime, I'm gonna treasure any opportunity to appreciate her now. As the last of the vocal trinity that's relatively active for someone of her caliber, I'm grateful for any performance she does decide to sing live. She doesn't owe us anything but she continues to give generously to her fans. Mind you, she's had one massive decade, a successful "comeback", and embraced her "defrosting" status by turning it into a massive, successful seasonal opportunity that, as I mentioned months ago, she's used to her advantage by promoting her body of work outside of Christmas. She could have just lived on the profits of AIW and retired doing private shows but she hasn't. I'm happy that when she does decide to sing, she's approaching what seems like a very mindful, healthy usage of her voice. If I'm being optimistic, I'm hoping this habit is going to help her build a better foundation for what she feels comfortable singing and it'll improve her promo performances or when she does decide to sing fully live in moments like these. 5

I didn't even start stainnng her until the Butterfly era but like, a year or two after that album came out. I had to work backward after having bought Butterfly in a discount record store. 1 hour ago, Saddy said: Edited April 16 by Ibrahim 1
I Melt Away Posted April 16 Posted April 16 (edited) I'm back from the concert with my lamb mom. First thing she said when the show started was "wow Mariah started on time" (I promise my mom loves her! ) So that's one positive aspect! Also, most people enjoyed the concert from what I saw. The setlist was perfect for both GP and fans. Mariah's vocals and energy was on point at the beginning. VOL got the loudest applause in response to vocals. (Of course there were big cheers here and there every time her HITS like Fantasy, ABMB, WBT etc. played.) Production was GAGGY during the Butterfly segment (moving couch, curtains falling, etc.) but wish they had more fun gimmicks like that throughout the show instead of just that one segment. I think the most glaring minus point for me (besides lip syncing which I don't really care) is Mariah's tendency to turn her back towards the audience. I have never really seen performers do that except her... Yes she visibly gets tense here and there but her not even looking at the audience exacerbates that awkwardness and limiting stage presence. Still, this was our favorite Mariah concert we attended by far. I would still recommend this show for lambs (due to setlist alone) and GP who want to experience a Mariah concert. She shouldn't retire. The shows are sold out. On TikTok people seem to be positive or not care...not yet at least. 3
