Taylor is still so huge here, even after the tour finished. It should definitely drop but perhaps not as quick as we are hoping. Anyway, it fills me with joy to hear this song constantly on the radio. I have had a conversation with each of my colleagues and it is so refreshing that they all have an opinion on the new Bey and actually know the song.
Burn Posted March 1 Posted March 1 I’m still in the camp that thinks we’ll have the album title and cover by the end of this weekend. I don’t expect to get the tracklist until like a week before the album drop though. Personally I’m glad she didn’t give us all the details at once. Like, Taylor stans got their album title, cover and tracklist over two months before the album. So now they’ve basically got two months of nothing to look forward to until the music arrives. But we have so much to discuss and anticipate in the next few weeks. 2

He literally said "from Beyonce to Rihanna, they told us no one watches music movies. They don't do numbers". This along with the tea we have about streamers supposedly not jumping at Bey's new visual is really fascinating to me and all but confirms the fact that the numbers for BIK (presumably, as Homecoming seemed to smash) weren't up to par. Context is key (Disney+ was a new service at the time), but I really think these execs DGAF. They crunch numbers and probably have been pushing back on the Pop girls who they used to cut easy checks to. Hell, we know they are pushing back because Taylor's team were very vocal about not getting their due. Saying that, I wonder if the success trifecta of the tour movie, Texas, and her current buzz has given Bey more leveraging power (assuming a deal hasn't been done or very recently got done). The streamers have shown that they will pivot if they feel there's money to be made...just like they cut TS a bigger deal for the streaming release of her tour film than initially AFTER she smashed at the box office without their help. Just thinking aloud about it all in the context of Bey. Music videos are dead, much more music films…. JLo 10 years late to the party. With TikTok and the 30 second attention spam, honestly there’s no reason to serve them. If Beyonce did film all these scenes and so on…. Release them like a movie and charge the $20+ to see them. Maybe she will do that at the end of all the acts. No need to wait and see who might pick it up, plus she always makes sure she has a sponsor to pay for her projects so no loss there. She got $22M for tour footage she had in the back of her pocket on top of the tour gross. Now why she’s not making it available for VOD is another issue, don’t even sell it to a streaming service, just sell it individually, anything made from that is just a plus. Releasing that annoying I’m That Girl teaser is what I wish she would have changed. A bit of clarity would be nice. She had a great idea during the pandemic, but now executing it is proving to be a bit more difficult especially with how the music industry is changing. Music and some songs might last a while longer and can be shuffled for other albums, visuals and release strategies not so much. Now release the track list, cover and some details and live in the NOW! Ugly cheap dusty wigs in a dated magazine nobody cared for anymore or a dry platinum wig at big events to sell a hair care line is not it. You should have released the line last summer in the middle of the tour, tagged it in every post as you showed off every outfit and had stands at the stadiums selling bottles. You already have people spending hundreds to see you and that’s your main audience, snatch more coins. You don’t even have a retailer for it yet…C’mon woman.

I definitely agree about the unfortunate impact of shorter attention spans and think the streamers are probably not BSing about the fact that such films don't bring in the views anymore in the way we (as stans of x artist) think they do. The streamers aren't incentivized to lie either; they want money, so if it brings in viewers/subscribers, it brings in money, and that's the main language they speak: money. With Bey, the only way a theater release again makes sense is if it's a film for all three acts in 2025/2026. The tour doc did well and was a profitable venture, but it wasn't a box office smash. It basically did well for what it was. So, if she's again doing AMC (which in film-land is the equivalent of an indie label that doesn't have the marketing muscle of a Paramount, Sony Pictures, etc) she has to rebuild demand and that almost mandates waiting a few years. If the streamers aren't playing ball, this feels like the only logical angle. In an ideal world, all things considered, she'll take the presumably hefty profits she earned from the tour doc to offset any losses she may be taking on the music visuals (be that on the production or the hefty asking price she wants), drop the visuals via a streamer (because no matter which way we/she looks at it, more eyeballs will see it that way), and wrap this whole thing up. I'm more than convinced that the issue isn't covering her production costs. Whatever deal she's being offered almost certainly has that cost met. It's the profit and ownership that I imagine was/is the central issue. Netflix, for example, will want it in a Homecoming capacity (aka an exclusive Netflix Original). I can see her - as someone big on ownership - wanting to be paid handsomely for that aspect of things. So, if she made the visuals for $20 million out of pocket and is only being offered $30 million, it quickly becomes clear why there would be an impasse on her part. If she takes a lower deal now, it also sets a tricky precedent for future deals and sends a message industry-wide that a whole "Beyonce" can be lowballed. At the same time, it's about balance, because what is the value of an aging visual that's losing vitality the longer it's left in the vault? The irony of this unintended essay is that I can't be convinced that there isn't a deal in place with a streamer at this point. Because if J.Lo can cop a presumably good deal, one of 'em will give Bey either what she wants or very close to it. Much like J.Lo's Prime Video partnership (which was both her movie and doc), I can see whatever deal Bey has incorporating the tour doc too. That way, the streamers get more bang for their buck and Bey gets the visuals out finally. We'll see.
Rafael Posted March 1 Posted March 1 I was hoping Bey would feel challenged to bring back music videos and challenge attention span issue in today's music. She already said "f*ck the attention span" on that thing she did for Club Renaissance when explaining the long songs... the way she refuses to believe people won't listen to long songs anymore. Now do the same for videos b*tch!!!!!!!! save us!!!!!!! 2

ReachInsideMe Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Kinda shocking we don’t have a preorder yet. It this is strategic on their part, what exactly is the strategy? Not to denigrate her team, but it seems like they do stuff after the hive pressures them into doing it as opposed to taking the initiative. I hate to say this, but Taylor would never do something like this. She understands the importance of preorders and building up as many sales as possible before album release. I’d say Bey has lost around 30-40k sales already as the initial hype is wearing off. The preorder should have been available at every available outlet as soon as the Verizon commercial aired. 4

This no shade to Taylor, but Taylor is dropping pre-orders months in advance because she knows she about to roll out 3-10 different versions. A fan is more likely to spend more money on another version if two weeks to a month ago, they got the first version so they got room for the new version with additional songs. Beyoncé is unlikely to do that. The tracklist will remain the same on all versions unless there’s a deluxe. People need to realize that pre-order for physicals are only moving the fanbase that already exists. The casuals aren’t buying and it’s really not accruing that much movement after a week or two without new editions. A bulk of the sales will come within that period first to two weeks. Based on Act I, a month is fine. If it’s not announced within the next couple days, then you can worry. Edited March 1 by FSXP

I don’t see why people say that. There are a lot of impulse buying that happen when a song is being talked about, is smashing or people discover the single and like it. The 190k copies she sold for Ren were not all stans. Just like an artists selling 1M pure can’t be all from stans no matter how many variants. Some general music fans who love physical albums are interested and buy the music they love. Plus they’re some fans who also buy on impulse. Anyway it doesn’t really matter, she’ll drop when she wants or will not. Fans were quite sure it will happen the 29th or today but maybe they have other plans. Edited March 1 by BnPac 2

Cbreezy Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Mindblown that we still don't have the preorder yet. For some reason, as much as today makes sense and is already overdue, Sunday/Monday fits the news cycle best. Sunday = covered everywhere Monday Monday = covered everywhere immediately and can be a dominant story all week Whatever the case is, we're way overdue and it's getting on my nerves!
