I've been paying a lot more attention to Bey since I saw her on the tour and something I didn't know about her until I read further, and something I think she's therefore pretty underrated for, is that she's probably one of the best record producers of our time. Listening to her talk about the way she arranges tracks and reading her collaborators talk about how she takes parts of many different people's contributions and pieces them together into songs like a jigsaw puzzle is so awesome. Sure you end up with stacked credits at the end but that's kinda whatever, having that dedication to your craft and being able to direct a crew of so many people and take the best parts of all of their work and piecing it into such cohesive and singular bodies of work is impressive and not something she gets praised enough for.

Self Titled was so wild when it released, the "WHERES THE ALBUM?" movement... then suddenly my sister texts me at work saying the album is out with all the videos. I left work 30 minutes earlier than I was supposed to (I was also going to her chicago date the day after). I was up all night listening and watching, then spent all day in the cold queuing to be front row... I believe Chicago was also having an artic freeze at the time

So she invited hair influencers but didn’t give them anything to actually influence?

It’s a mess. Just because it’s club kid inspired doesn’t make it as good as some people say. Now I hope she wears that body chain again but with something more revealing :gaycat2:

Thanks for this post! Not a lot of people give her the proper recognition for this. She has an amazing ear.

This is why I find it laughable when people on here and elsewhere act like she just waltzes into the studio and records a track without contributing. Being a producer doesn't mean you're on the soundboard (although I'm sure she contributes there, too) but that you're executing the overall vision of the song. Anyone with any knowledge of her career can see the through-line from the beginning of her career to now, despite what producers and songwriters she's worked with. There's one commonality and it's her.

That birthday show has such a feeling of magic through out. Every video I have watched, there is a sense of big love that Beyoncé is projecting and the audience was reciprocating it right back. The addition of Diana Ross really acted as the candle on the cake to celebrate Beyoncé. Like there are always those vital posts on her bday each year and it’s cute but this years felt especially beautiful bc in a sense we all got to celebrate it with her. I love this woman so much

This is an important point that unfortunately a lot of people don't understand on this website, it's kinda puzzling how people can dedicate their entire day towards talking about musicians but don't know what some of the key roles in making music are. You can produce an entire record front to back without touching a single instrument or piece of equipment. Although a lot of producers are musically capable, at the bones of it it's mostly about finding the correct musicians and writers to execute on the creative vision and managing that process to get a finished product like you said.

I won’t lie, that account posts things that often feel like a reach. Beyoncés only known connection or reference to that number is her age so this kinda seems unlikely IMO.

I do believe there are probably many references to classic movies. I wouldn’t be surprised much how REN is sample heavy that the visuals are also reference heavy. For something coming so late(if ever) after the albums release, it certainly would drive interest to have some recognizable references to generate some interest, though not entirely necessary either.

yessss!

people always try to downgrade her talents and yet she's the only one of her peers or even her successors who is so consistent with quality, not just matching it, but upping it, and making cohesive albums that are also so diverse and utilize a great number of writers...if she really did nothing but make a camp and record the songs there is no way she'd have accomplished all she has with her albums. her name is on every song for both writing and producing and THAT is the reason her work is so good, sounds so much like her, and is so unified despite it all.

tbh it would have been a bit tacky to double up on your bday concert with launching new hair products, and inviting the influencers for it... it seems like she was just trying to build up a good relationship with these people rather than using them for promo instantaneously. that's the key to good influencer marketing anyway...to actually make the influencers WANT to promote your work, and feel good about it, not just do it because there's money involved. She's offering them something, but it's something special, one of a kind, out of their ordinary.
