It’s so interesting to hear that they are passing on it :deadbanana4: She must be charging up the ass for it which she’s entitled too but it’s sad that the price could be causing the hold up. I also don’t know how to feel about the replay value tidbit… So interesting. To be honest though Lem & BIK aren’t something I rewatch all the time so it’s not necessarily a negative to me. I would’ve thought that Netflix would lock her down off the goodwill of Homecoming that seemed like a hit for them.

Not this is her Spencer :hoetenks:

Very inclined to believe this. The source is solid and is so left of usual music "insider" tea that it would be too random to not be true.

Lots of thoughts.

Hopefully, this silences the gworls screaming that the visuals were scrapped. At the same time this appears to explain the delay.

I love our girl, but not putting this out in tandem with the album may bite her in the a** (see: the whole "concerns about replay value").

I doubt this was passed on in the conventional sense. Every streamer would want a piece of the Beyonce pie. But if she's asking for a sh*t load of money (which I imagine is the case to cover costs and turn a great profit) then that's where the issue may lie.

The "weird" angle seems to line-up with the theories around Echoville etc.

I imagine we'll see this in some form, but it'll be interesting to see where it lands.

This was one of my theories. Glad it now has some tea behind it.

My only issue with the article is that it reads sort of like conjecture in the same breath of trying to report studios passed on it.  You can’t report something was passed on because studios felt there was no replay value, but then in the next line say there’s no deal because Beyoncé might be unhappy with the finished product.

That makes it all sound like speculation as to why it hasn’t dropped.

Nevertheless, I’m just happy it’s being reported.  Maybe we’re close.

I mean if the price was HUGE but they're getting a ready-and-willing to promote Bey then it would be an instant take... It's the paying a HUGE price but then getting zero promotion from her besides an IG post then another IG post from her mom 10 months later accusing you of racism for "not promoting" combo that is probably turning people off. :giraffe:

Well she couldn’t promote right now too since she’s a SAG member

Spoiler

though it’s not like she went across the picket lines before… :gaycat6:

I cannot believe there hasn't been a set release strategy in place for this for months. If she's really looking for distributors like an indie flick at Telluride :deadbanana4:

she finally saw us dragging the pimp outfit the other day and had to leak a nugget to calm us down :jonny3:

If someone bought it at this very moment I'd say we'll still be waiting like 2 months for a release

Passing it up? Meh… like Amazon wouldn’t just snatch it up.

Plus if it’s already filmed and finished, she can just release it herself.

I guess studios could pay a bit more right now given the strike, they don’t have much to work with and she has a  whole film ready to go.

AT LEAST SHE'S NOT DIRECTING IT. That means she had more time to do other stuff and probably won't direct act ii/act iii visuals

Is this some legit info or just twitter nonsense as usual?

She could literally sell it on her website and still make a profit, I don't see why selling it to a streaming service would be a problem

Well isn’t some streaming cutting back. I don’t think Black is King was huge for Disney so they’d obviously not take on another big budget project.

That deal with Netflix was probably for live shows/documentary, not some high budget film.

The project isn’t backed by a big studio so she could, but given who we’re talking about here that wouldn’t be an issue.

RENAISSANCE is described as "artsy" and "weirder" than LEMONADE and BLACK IS KING, but also "better" than the latter, and not nearly as "Disney-fied."

This is very promising.

Just looked at the directors work and it falls in line with all the imagery for this era…

Begs the question... she's been in bed with Amazon this era. Would she really partner with them for the merch deal if they'd already passed on the film? Couldn't she just call up Bezos and say take the film or no deal? I'm confused :'(

This doesn’t go well if she is planning another film for other acts. It will probably put her off.

Isn’t it possible she wants a deal for all 3 acts so maybe that’s the hold up?

I've always gone up for "Boss Bey" and I'm oddly titillated by the stand-off she seems to be staging. She's likely asking for big bucks. a) because it cost her a lot to produce, b) to turn a huge profit, and c) she's likely seeking a big promotional commitment.

At the same time, it's hard not to be frustrated. Sometimes, just give the people what they want.

Sitting on a visual that's getting older and older (and thus losing its commercial value) doesn't feel all that savvy either.

...At the same time, lowballing herself only f*cks her over in the future with the next film. Cue 2028 convo: "why should we pay you x milli now when you took x milli for Ren film?"

It's a catch 22.

I just hope this quest for coins doesn't see the visual end up on some obscure platform like Apple TV. :noparty:

If the next acts are less ostentatious in imagery she could easily get away with short films for each or even just a couple of music videos.

This. If there's RWT film or documentary on her during the covid and recording, filming rehearsing and foot injury, it'll go to Netflix as the part of the deal

Music videos aren't as big as they once were so it's absolutely true there would be concern about a whole feature length film's replay value.

That said, it further points out in the article the strike is probably making studios hungry for content and a lot of execs will be at the LA show this weekend so that's optimistic.

I just think that there is inherent replay value in a pop visual album based solely on the fact that pop fans re-watch music videos. The average person might just see it once, but RENAISSANCE has a cult following, there's no way its fans are going to turn it on and never go back. Do people watch a film and then re-watch it the following evening? Admittedly, I haven't watched either Lemonade or Black is King in some time BUT upon release I watched them each at least 5 times within the first week. Even for films I absolutely loved, I don't go back to them for months if not years. Could just be me though...

I guess? I mean it's Beyoncé, in 2020 everyone knew she didn't promote. Realistically, the promotion of a film should be handled by the studio not the actors, directors, etc. But I definitely see your point because the actors and directors do participate in promotion. And I think Tina had a point about the awards, if it was a white artist who made that film. The biggest/most prestigious nomination was for costuming at the Primetime Emmys (it won) and Best Film at the Grammys (it lost).

Anyway, I think streamers are getting cheap anyway, they want easy wins, and if Beyoncé is pricing it high for sure I can see them wondering if it'll be worth it (especially if they were judging Black is King as the indicator of its possible success and not say, Homecoming).

A whole year of theorizing that something happened, the film being scrapped, she was photoshopping everything, waiting for a astrology event, waiting for the tour to start, WE are the visuals, the teasing of Echoville, only for it to be revealed that nobody wanted to buy the stupid film for 6 months wow

Nothing is biting her in the ass, the TOUR is all the self promo she needs right now...literally the 2nd biggest tour of the year. She knows her worth and has every right to ask for it.
