Beyonce used to go OFF vocally during the live "Irreplaceable" performances ...album version was put to dust every time

Oop last thing cause I know I'm hitting my limit in this base today and I don't want y'all to start jumping me for talking too much nonsense.

I was thinking to myself what is it about Beyonce that doesn't stick with Gen Z/Alpha? Just based on random tiktok videos that bring up artists it seems like they don't care for her AT all. Besides her being too old/not relatable/self sabotaging/not being alive during her "prime". I wanted to get to the root of it. I've come to this conclusion. Gen Z/Alpha likes depressing music. All their favorite modern rappers and popstars make sad love songs. They want their music to replicate the emotions they're feeling inside. This generation struggles with mental health more than any. I realize Beyonce consistently makes the most uplifting music out of every mainstream singer MALE OR FEMALE that I can think of. Even songs where she talks her ****, she's still trying to uplift the listener. ***Flawless, Pretty Hurts, Bigger, Spirit, BMS, Brown Skin Girl, the list goes on. Seriously look at her discography of the last ten years and count how many songs are positive and how many aren't. If she isn't singing about being IN love or talking about how rich she is, she's trying to make the listener feel better about themselves. THAT is why they don't like her. They just care about aesthetic and vibes. But that is why she's my all-time favorite artist. She makes me feel good when I'm not feeling so good.

This isn't really true, though? I'm Gen-Z (as are my friends) and we love Bey :rip: At the RWT in Toronto my section was mostly late teens/early-mid 20-somethings. For context, I wasn't alive when DC was popping but that doesn't mean I didn't grow up listening to DC - their music has always been featured prominently in our community/family functions/social events. Even though IASF is the first Bey era I 'remember', the streaming age made it possible to discover her older albums so despite some of us joining the Hive later in her career, we still ride for her older music that we grew up listening to (but we're entirely infatuated with because we were too young to 'stan'). On the rare occasion I do meet a Gen-Z who doesn't like Bey they're either a. White/don't like ""Black"" music b. Try to be edgy/don/t want to play into the 'Goddess' persona. There really is no objective way to measure Bey's pull with Gen-Z. Some might argue we should look at streaming stats but I think that's more of a promotional problem.

The fact that Bey only has two real studio albums released in the streaming age has set her back tremendously. One of her most culturally significant albums, Lemonade, was also locked away in Tidal Tower for years. It doesn't help that the projects she did put out outside of studio albums were poorly marketed (e.g., EIL & Mufasa music). Ultimately, I think if she had done a proper studio album in 2018 and 2020/2021 before Reneigh, her streaming stats would be much better off and she'd feel bigger. Prominence in the streaming era is about volume. The most streamed female artists are Ariana and Taylor and the former has put out 4 albums & the latter 8 albums in the streaming era :rip:

This is a problem I have with some of the setlist for RENAISSANCE. A moment like this would go viral today.

I think they're trying to push some of her lesser known songs but streams aren't looking like it's working. We need sing along moments like this.

this is so accurate.

I will say I don't think there are as many "Hive" members in the younger demo, but doesn't mean they don't listen and show up for Bey. literally all the girlies and gays are going to this tour, so many of my IRL friends will be at the show here and many others have already gone/have plans to go elsewhere. most of them aren't even stans but love her down and would probably agree she's the best performer alive—they are sane, logical people whose brains haven't been rotted by atrl and twitter twinks.

Love on Top and Before I Let Go both give that... and Heated if you wanna count it. Dangerously in Love too.

we don't need Irreplaceable in 2023, I'm sorry. I'll even take Halo over that. :dies:

Halo is nice, but it has been played to death as a radio staple + she performed it in almost the same slot for like a decade almost. it just got stale tbh

She needs to include No Angel on a tour.

An ACTUAL full performance, not this "check my body" shenanigans.

If the rumors about act ii and act iii are true, I hope both Irreplaceable and If I Were A Boy come back. I'd be happy to hear them after ten years

Meh. I wouldn't say Bey only makes feel good music, especially when her album before her most recent one is Lemonade, which quite literally fits all the depressing/sad/questioning relationship things you mentioned (I can envision the TikTok girlies eating tf out of Love Drought Hive needs to make that viral and save Lemonade tragic recurrents chile).

As a Gen Zer myself I can tell you it's quite simple:
1) She has largely remained hitless during our youth. And that's no shade. Speaking personally the earliest songs I have vivid memories of are from 2008 and I would consider music of 2009-2015 my "childhood music". Bey had literally tail end of IASF and DrIL as only undeniable hits during that period. Then Gen Zers really came to our own and "took over" the charts during 2017-2020, which she was also absent from. This combo is deadly, someone like Rihanna might've also been absent during the Gen Z takeover but she ran so much of our childhood that she stays with us. So if Bey does not make initial connection with the generation, why would they care for her?

2) You are seriously underestimating the relatability factor. Your link of Gen Zers liking depressing music is part of them liking relatability (teens and people going through their early 20s are an emotional mess). Bey is the complete opposite of relatable in every sense of the word. The "Queen above us all" might've worked well for Millennials in 2015, but Gen Z doesn't f*ck with it. It is literally a marketing tactic by labels now to try and make new artists look as "homegrown"/"just like the rest of us" as possible to get the reliability factor. "This pop star writes music with her brother in her childhood bedroom", "this popstar just got her drivers license and is using it to stalk her ex", etc.

Overall, from my experiences with my friends and social media comment sections, I would not say Gen Z doesn't like Bey. I've seen multiple viral videos of more "relatable" moments of her (it can be something simple like a +800K liked TikTok I saw the other day of her interview about the making of Partition), and it's not common that I experience people openly hating her. The vibe is more so like "Yeah, I know Bey, but she isn't really my thing".

pretty sure it’s a new option because I hadn’t seen that before today! the interest is admittedly ridiculous, but the cost per month fits my budget better atm and I can always pay it off early when conditions improve :giraffe:
