Ash12345 Posted February 16, 2020 Author Posted February 16, 2020 26. Pharrell Williams Points: 32,344 Pharrell Williams met Chad Hugo in marching band, and in 1990 they founded the R&B influenced group The Neptunes and were discovered and signed by Teddy Riley. In 1992, Pharrell got his first songwriter hit, when he wrote Teddy Riley's verse on Wreckx-N-Effect's #2 hit "Rump Shaker" and in 1996, The Neptunes had their first hit as producers with SMV's "Use Your Heart". Their defining sound began to take shape in the late 90s, with hits like Mase's "Lookin At Me" and N.O.R.E.'s "Superthug". The Neptunes solidified their standing as songwriters and producers over the next few years, with Kelis' debut album in 1999, and hits with hip hop artists like Mystikal, Jay-Z and Ludacris, and teamed up with old friend Shae Haley to form N.E.R.D. and released their hip hop and rock influenced debut album in August 2001. The Neptunes proved their ability to adapt their sound to pop music later that year, with Britney Spears' "I'm A Slave 4 U". That was followed by several big pop hits and cross over R&B and hip hop hits in 2002, such as NSYNC's "Girlfriend", Usher's "U Don't Have To Call", No Doubt's "Hella Good", LL Cool J's "Luv U Better" and their first #1 smash hit, Nelly's "Hot In Herre". At this point, The Neptunes had taken the spotlight from Max Martin as the go-to producers of the day. In 2003, The Neptunes released their debut album, "The Neptunes Present... Clones" which included Pharrell's first major hit as a recording artist, "Frontin" (#5). The Neptunes also helped launch Justin Timberlake's solo career, contributing to over half of his 2002 debut album "Justified", as well as Gwen Stefani's solo career with her smash hit "Hollaback Girl". Other huge hits during this period include Kelis' "Milkshake" (2003) and Snoop Dogg's "Drop It Like It's Hot" (2004). Their success started to slow in the second half of the 00s, although they still had significant releases such as Ludacris' #1 hit "Money Maker" and producing and co-writing the majority of Madonna's "Hard Candy" album. In 2010, Pharrell worked on the soundtrack to "Despicable Me", his first major project without Chad Hugo. He had his big come-back in 2013 which included "Happy" from "Despicable Me 2", and smash hits "Blurred Lines" and "Get Lucky". That was followed by several more hits in the mid and late 2010s, including Ed Sheeran's Sing, Calvin Harris' "Feels", Camila Cabello's "Havana", N.E.R.D.'s biggest hit to date, "Lemon" and Migos' "Stir Fry". Although Stir Fry peaked higher, the difference in their overall chart run was smaller. Lemon even managed to chart on the Year Ends at #83 compared to #48 for Stir Fry. Lemon wasn't a smash hit but it was still a moderate hit. Lemon has 274 million Spotify streams compared to 386 million for Stir Fry, so 74% of the points vs 71% of the streams. They both peaked at #21 on the airplay charts, but Lemon charted for 16 weeks vs 11 weeks for Stir Fry. Edited February 16, 2020 by Ash12345

I think Taylor might be above Carole but I highly doubt she will be above Diane. Cause Dianes songwriting credits are astronomical But either way #2 Greatest Female Songwriter of All Time at the age of 30 is already an achievement. And she probably been #2 for years already. Who's doing it like her??

Ash12345 Posted February 17, 2020 Author Posted February 17, 2020 25. Hal David Points: 32,665 Lyricist Hal David began writing songs in the late 40s following the songwriting success of his brother Mack David. His first hit, co-written with Don Rodney, was "The Four Winds and the Seven Seas" by Swing and Sway with Sammy Kaye (#3 on the airplay charts) in 1949, with several covers of the song charting later that year. In 1957, he met Burt Bacharach at New York City's Brill Building and they wrote their first hit together, "The Story of My Life" by Marty Robbins (#15 in 1957). That was followed by "Magic Moments" by Perry Como and many more big hits in the late 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, finding particularly great success with soul and pop singer Dionne Warwick. He wrote a few more hits without Burt Bacharach too, including "My Heart Is An Open Book" by Carl Dobkins Jr., "Broken-Hearted Melody" by Sarah Vaughan, "Johnny Get Angry" by Joanie Sommers and 1984's "To All The Girls I've Loved Before" by Julio Iglesias and Willie Nelson. He won an Oscar for "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" from "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" in 1970 and co-wrote the themes to three James Bond movies. His songs were sampled in several hits in the last two decades - "The Look of Love" in Ashanti's "Rain On Me", "A House Is Not A Home" in Twista's "Slow Jamz" and "Walk On By" in Beyonce's "6 Inch". He was inducted in the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972, is one of only 13 songwriters awarded with the Library of Congress' Gershwin Prize, and has had three songs inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame ("Walk On By", "They Long To Be Close To You" and "Don't Make Me Over") and has won several Grammys including one for his Broadway show "Promises, Promises". He was chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame from 2000 to 2010, and has had the Starlight award named in his honor, which recognizes the accomplishments of young songwriters. Ash12345 Posted February 19, 2020 Author Posted February 19, 2020 (edited) 24. Carole King Points: 33,387 With over a hundred Hot 100 hits to her name, Carole King developed an interest in music as a toddler and began taking piano lessons at age 4. While she was in high school, she formed a band, recorded demos with her friend Paul Simon, and in 1958, she released her first song, "The Right Girl", as a promo single. She met her songwriting partner Gerry Goffin in college and got married soon after in 1959. Their first song, "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" by The Shirelles turned into a #1 hit in 1960 and was the #1 hit by a black girl group. She got her first hit as a recording artist with "It Might As Well Rain Until September" in 1962, and wrote a large collection of hits with Gerry Goffin in the 1960s. Following their divorce, Carole King started focusing on her own recording career. She formed a trio under the name "The City" but their album wasn't a commercial success, and neither was her first solo album, "Writer". However, her second album "Tapestry", released in 1971 was a huge success, with contributions from Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and others as musicians. The album sold approximately 25 million copies, and won AOTY at the Grammys, making her the first female singer-songwriter to win the award. She continued writing for other artists and for her solo career in the decades that followed. In 2000, she tweaked her hit song "Where You Lead" so that it could be used as the theme song for "Gilmore Girls".
