Exactly. I can assure you that similar, foolish judgements were made against Rihanna last year yet she had three songs sell over 1M+ units (the most of any artist in 2016) and a forth of which is currently at 650K+ units sold which is an incredible feat. in this climate. What's truly interesting however is that another certain artist, who is allegedly bigger that Trainor (though they have yet to achieve a song that is as ubitiquous and omnipresent as "All About That Bass" or have any of their albums outsell "Title" both domestically and globally), has failed to achieve that with all three of the singles they have released thus far in pure sales. I wonder why that is exactly?

Even if streaming has grown compared to when Purpose was released, Ed's streams seem weaker than Purpose's singles at the same point.

So I think Ed is doing Bieber's numbers, about +500k and 700-650k SPS. Purpose ended up with 1.8m which would be great if Ed matches that.

Ed will surely have more pure sales.

I've never understood why Robbie Williams failed to catch on in the US.

Robbie Williams was a British Pop star whom was trying to find solo success in the United States when the American music market was oversaturated but infatuated with smooth-yet-edgy Urban/Rhythmic solo stars/groups and run-of-the-mill Teen-Pop sensations and he didn't truly fit either category at the time. He was, essentially, a cross between Eminem & Michael Buble in the sense that he had the edgy personality/character of Eminem (that could have possibly attained attention from younger music audiences had he been promoted enough) but the AC-oriented musical appeal of Michael Buble', however his sound isn't what American radio was in conjunction with at the time, and with U.S radio starting to become the prime factor for granting chart success in the late-1990's/early-2000's, there was absolutely no way he was going to succeed in the midst of Britney Spears; Christina Aguilera; N'Sync/Justin Timberlake; Usher; Nelly; Alicia Keys; Destiny's Child/Beyonce' (and countless other Urban-Pop/R&B/Pop driven acts) etc. all of whom had a more fluent crossover appeal and stylistic approach overall.

Many often say that he is the "Male-Kyle Minogue" (he's a humungous Global figure) and that is true to an extent. However, in spite of Minogue never being a prime commercial force in the United States albeit she was able to experience well-to-do success there over the years and has built a strong cult-U.S fanbase overtime, she initially broke through during the late-1980's Dance-Pop boom and was a product of the Stock-Aitken-Waterman foundation that had already found multiple chart successes with Rick Astley; Dead Or Alive; Jason Donovan; Sinitta and the likes thus she already had a platform of sorts.

Take That's biggest U.S hit and only top 40 hit to date was "I Want You Back" and that was far more sonically in-tune to the majority of the songs that U.S radio had in rotation at the time (even as R&B/Hip-Hop/Rhythmic music was becoming mainstream) and when AC radio in particular played a more a more substantial role overall; it went top 5 on both AC & Pop radio and even top 15 on Urban AC.

Personally speaking, I feel that Robbie Williams should have perhaps remained a heavier Rock/Pop act or were at least marketed to the American public as such at first. If so, I think he could have found success in a similar vein to the way Creed; Savage Garden; Lonestar; Vertical Horizon; Matchbox Twenty etc. did even as a solo artist and if it were only for a short while as where Rock radio was still rather prominent. Williams sings and performs Rock music very well and he has always carried the persona of your typical Rock star anyhow.

Her acceptance speech could've been muted and she would've gotten a boost either way.
