I appreciate your honesty. My thoughts on school shootings is that mental health gets overly blamed by right wing idealogues who don't understand mental health. I think the blame should go towards politicians on both sides left and right that have not done anything to seriously address it. I also blame academia for being slow on findings solutions. I don't like the exaggerated gun culture of the US & think it is partially to blame, although I do believe in responsible gun ownership. I think it should be treated as a public health issue and a lot of fund should go to all levels of prevention.

Duh there are other "things" (the word you are looking for are factors) that contribute to crime. But even though there is not direct link between immigration and crime, there are related pathways through which immigration, especially illegal immigration, leads to increased crime rates. Poverty for example, we know that most illegal immigrants are poor, we know many of them lack an education. But here is the point I want to make. In human science there is a simple phenomenon called the bell curve under which all human experience is distributed under. Most experiences or people fall in the middle of that curve, some or about 25% fall about 2 standard deviations from the mean. Even fewer fall at the ends for about 4-5% of the population. So for example, most people are not terrorists, only a small percentage of people are willing to kill innocent people. That percentage will stay the same no matter how many people you include in your study. So in studies regarding immigration and terrorism, you can increase the number of migrants and the number of people willing to kill innocent people will stay the same. The question is, how much is a country willing to tolerate that 10% of terrorists living among their citizens committing terror acts after terror acts.

The people of the UK have to get organized, rally, and get politicians elected that are actually interested closing their border and implement strict laws. I don't see anyone here getting angry at the Japanese for being ultra conservative in that regard. Europe needs to start doing the same until who knows when.

I would like to voice my concern about off topic warning points. I think ya'll can do better. I got one in the Hasan Piker thread because I called him an ideologue and began to give reasons why a I hate idealogues. Because of our circumstances, we have to cross the border a few times a year to see our families and so we have a few days to catch up on a lot of things. Let me just make something clear. In my line of work, based on our ethical guidelines, if we know (e.g., being directly told) that someone is illegal, we are to encourage them to seek legal advice, nothing else in that regard because that is out of our scope of expertise. BUT, if we are told or suspect that they are abusing a vulnerable person (e.g., child or elder) then we are to report them to the authorities (e.g., CPS). These are guidelines in a line of work that has social justice in its framework. So again, my worldview on these issues are about balance, having both empathy and a brain.
