It’s not a mark of guilt to seek new (usually younger…) talent/songwriters to help bring her creative vision to life & keep an interesting take on them. In fact, it keeps her music fresh.
1000% agree with the main sentiment of the video but she lost me with that odd pointed ending (she knows what she’s doing with the Taylor mention..) and veering off into what’s evidently a selective attack towards one act.
holding one individual accountable for the actions of a whole industry is odd and is understandably the reason why a lot of people (fans and haters alike) aren’t focusing on the main point.
That’s not how it works. Kelis doesn’t own the publishing or masters to the track. Therefore legally she can’t have a say in signing off the use of the song. Beyoncé and her team cleared the sample with whoever owns the publishing to the song. In fact, Beyoncé didn’t even have to credit Kelis but did it out of goodwill.
