I see your POV here but I took her comments to be almost entirely out of concern for her health and alarm about the degree to which she was out of touch with how much her body had changed. I don't think what she said is at odds with body positivity at all. (I am a big yo-yo'er and went through a similar experience last year where if you'd asked me how much I weighed I would have answered about 30lbs lower than what I actually weighed at the time, then I went to the doctor and got the real answer and was stunned that I would have had no idea).

My best guess would be that they're gonna re-release Chemistry again but it's live Belasco audio but who knows?

ranking: roses goodbye i won't give up did you know you don't make me cry this feels like a little EP with alternate riffs or b-sides of the same themes from the main album, rather than a continuation of it. roses is the morning after lighthouse, less sad, more resolved. goodbye almost precedes skip this part? i won't give up is high road's more upbeat and positive sister (and a bop) did you know is that's right's older cousin. you don't make me cry is more in the vein of i hate love imo. though i can see why they weren't in the main tracklist, i do like all of them!

I was at the last two shows of (this leg of) the residency and WHEW. Friday night (8/18) was the single best show I have ever seen from Kelly. Vocals were unreal, really solid set list (hearing IDTAY and Never Again in the same show was a great moment for me), and she just LOOKED like she was having the time of her life. There's something different and new about her energy post-divorce, like she's remembering who she is as an artist. I love how much she interacted with her fans and I love how her band and the people around her were all so nice not only to her but to all of us. Saturday night was also great, with a few enormous standout moments (Sober and Happier Than Ever) - Didn't I live was awesome and AMLT was really cute. I love what 'mine' has become live. I don't love love Vegas but will be returning when she does. I am excited for more news about some shows in NYC this fall!

Happened to see a tweet about Kesha’s vinyl release putting her up to a new peak lmao

Album is #83. The only benchmarks I have to guess are that #50 sold just just over 15K units and #168 (Kesha) sold 8.3K units. So maybe somewhere in the 13-14K range this week? Unless someone has actual numbers.

I guess I just didn't think it would happen for KC that way, where she'd be the (positive) exception to a rule. I'm 27 and haven't purchased CDs since 2017, that's when my physical music consumption turned to almost exclusively vinyl. When Kelly or another person that I love and follow through everything releases, I buy a CD/vinyl etc. I'm wondering if the talk show with an audience that skews a little older is what had a huge impact on physical and digital sales. I'm a pessimist in these waters and really truly expected like 20k maybe 30K in total units/unit equivalents just because of how much the industry and consumption have changed since MOL was released + her not having a radio hit like she did in 2017. Up until release week, it didn't feel like the album had that much presence or buzz and now I feel like many, many more people are talking about it. So I am thrilled with how it seems to be connecting.

Yeah I am absolutely floored by the breakdown of her units moved. I thought the Spotify numbers were indicative of overall success, but her audience seems to be buyers, which is amazing. 17,500 on digital sales alone is astounding, and it's really exciting when you realize that the album is still #1 on iTunes. I didn't think an iTunes #1 meant anything anymore, but it does, apparently. I told myself I'd stop caring about numbers after release week was over, but I am curious to see how far the album drops on the BB200, because if she's still at #1 on iTunes and her CD's are selling out in a ton of retailers...that's a lot of her sales right there. I also think that the podcasts are something she should do going forward. People are really into podcasts and while I think that the talk show circuit is also very important and she should do that next album cycle if she can, they're more formulaic and the shows are just a revolving door of famous people where you lose a lot of what the person is actually there to talk about because everyone's focused on the celebrity aspect and everyone is there to promote something. With this album she's been making the podcast rounds and getting really personal about her story, it feels a little more grassroots and less of a robotic obligation for 7 minutes, and i feel like it's resonating.

I know it's not over and we don't have the final numbers, but I also have to say that I was really worried that she'd sell only in the 20-30K range max for her first week, so the HDD prediction makes me SO happy. Of course I hope she exceeds it - but during a writers strike where the promo has been much more grassroots and reliant on social media AND during an era in which none of the songs have even charted...it makes me happy that her fan base and the GP are showing up for her in a way I didn't know they would.

I haven't yet chimed in - I've been walking on air for the last few days after getting to sing (scream) Love So Soft with Kelly on Thursday (?!) I am absolutely in love with every single aspect of this album. Every song is good. Even the songs that I love less than the others I still love. Right now, Lighthouse and Rock Hudson are the emotional core of the album while Down To You has me shakin' my t*ddies - but Magic, Chemistry and High Road are incredible. I want to give some time for the recency bias to get out of my body before definitively saying it but I feel like this is gonna end up being my favorite album by her. It's mature, she sounds unreal, it's reflective and sad and angry but also resolved. and the WRITING is amazing.

this is PRECISELY how i feel about the strategy, like they are intentionally using the hype leading up to release to boost tracks that maybe won't be the standouts, that way the streaming is a little more even across the album. even the PLACEMENT of these songs within the tracklist shows a bit of strategy, almost like tentpoles placed evenly throughout so that if people's attention is starting to wane while listening all the way through, a track that people already know is never more than two away. i am not holding my breath for a hit single but it would be nice, especially if skip this part/lighthouse/down to you/rock hudson really do pack the punch that everyone says they do. those four are the ones i am most looking forward to and i am glad they haven't been released yet tbh. that's right/my mistake/magic/high road/chemistry will probably just enrich the whole project for me.

I can absolutely respect this! Again I just think she’s at a different phase of her life where she is writing quite differently. It clearly works for some and not others and that’s fine - I just don’t love certain people’s expectations of a BA or MD redux simply because she’s single again
