Kelly Clarkson - "I'd Be Lyin'"
My thoughts on the song after a few listens! Definitely an earworm and will grow on you with every listen. Love the bridge! Overall, this song sounds like a combination of Breakaway, All I Ever Wanted and Stronger eras - pop rock with a slight country flair to it. The production sounds a bit more raw and reminds me of David Kahne's work on My December. I do agree with some of the posts above saying that this sounds kind of predictable for her (sonically and lyrically), but I think it's great for a summer release. I'd be curious to see what else is lined up (if any) - is there going to be an album, an EP, more droplet singles? I'll take any new music in any form, but would love to hear Kelly share more about what's next for her musically especially with the talk show ending. Now that she doesn't have a label, I feel like she can say or do whatever she wants musically, so hopefully she takes advantage of that since she's been longing for this creative freedom her whole career and not have a major label breathing down her neck.

No noms for Kelly this year at the Grammys, but that was expected given all she released was Where Have You Been (assuming her/her team even submitted it for consideration) and the song wasn't a big hit. I hope she releases new material soon... but more importantly I really wish she would get a more innovative team that would push her musical career more.

Sometimes I think she's just trolling us, but in this video, I don't think she is... She seemingly doesn't know that it's Breakaway's 20th anniversary this year, so I highly doubt there will be any 20th anniversary celebration/release as it's a bit late now to prepare anything as it's already May and the anniversary will be in November. She refers to doing concerts/shows as "visiting that part of her career".... key word being 'visiting' lol She (once again) says she doesn't think she'd be good as an SNL host and that she would break character if she were ever in the skits. She says she would be a musical guest, but with no new music in sight, it seems unlikely she'll be doing SNL anytime soon.

I wouldn't be opposed to a FKOH push especially if Kelly's team changes their mind and decide to film a fun video with her hot new look to push it for the spring/summer to accompany a proper single release and push to radio for the song. But that's wishful thinking, I truly think the chemistry era is over unfortunately

Sad to see Lighthouse's run on radio already trailing off... it's so unfortunate that there is such high quality music, but there has been limited promotion efforts. I agree that DTY should have been released as a single, it was one of the songs that really stood out to me and some of my friends who aren't even Kelly fans as a strong Hot-AC/pop radio friendly ear-worm. I'm ecstatic that Kelly is so happy at Atlantic and that all 3 of her albums under Atlantic are Grammy-nominated albums. However, as a major record label, I don't think we can continue having Atlantic/KC's team use the excuse of learning from their misses for the next era cause they're a massive label and they should know how to market their artists better. I know it's not all on Atlantic given it's also equally on Kelly and her own management to be willing to be innovative and push the record/album more aggressively - which also seems to be an issue. The fact Kelly's version of HTE from Kellyoke has stronger daily streams over the Chemistry tracks says a lot given HTE got a lot more traction on socials especially TikTok. Her team really needs to get innovative when it comes to promotional efforts and her social media presence. Not sure what to expect for 2024.... Belasco show footage? Live Album? Kellyoke 2? Unreleased tracks? But I really hope Kelly's team can capitalize on her current star power, her new look and try and push some new music out to keep general interest up for her music career. It doesn't even have to be a full album - I think putting out some standalone pop singles as droplets to tie fans over until the next era would be great. Alternatively, it'd be nice to see Kelly be a bit more involved in collabs (ex. more country collabs, lending her vocals on a DJ's EDM track) as those types of songs don't require a lot of Kelly's time as those tend to have limited live promotional performances and don't always require a music video. A few ideas I'd like to see (probably unrealistic, but could be interesting for Kelly and her team to explore): - Duets / Covers album - have Kelly do a Covers album with reimagined versions of those songs, but invite the original artists to sing with her on them to make them Duet versions. If Luke Combs is able to get a hit with a cover of Fast Car, who's to say Kelly can't get a hit with a reimagined duets version of a cover (ex. think Elton John & Dua's "Cold Heart") - Country Album - now could be a good opportunity for Kelly to explore a brand new genre and finally release a long-awaited full country album. If done right, Kelly could have a huge Country era and she could have a critically acclaimed country album. Another option would be to explore doing a joint album with another country artist(s) (i.e. Kelsea Ballerini, Brandy Clark, etc.) similar to what Miranda Lambert did with the Pistol Annies. Doing a Country album could also work well with Kelly's schedule since her team seems allergic to any international promotion for her music these days... so she only really needs to focus on the US and Canadian markets (maybe a bit of Australia but we know she hasn't shown Australia any love since the PBP era) if she's promoting a Country album.

Yeah I have no idea what Atlantic is waiting for... why release a deluxe version of the album at this time of year and not capitalize on it by pushing a 2nd single to radio and drive some streaming numbers? Regardless of whether there is a writer's strike or not, they don't need television to push a single and they can use this opportunity to try and experiment other promotional formats and see if they can get any traction that way. They definitely missed out on an opportunity to push a summer single DTY/FKOH especially FKOH considering it was getting very consistent streams as an album track with little to no promotion. They easily could have rejigged her schedule given the talk show can't start filming yet to get her to do some overseas promotion in international markets as well especially she has lost a lot of traction internationally since the PBP era. So frustrating to know all these good quality songs on the album are not being pushed :(

I think for those who are watching the numbers (i.e. streams, downloads, charts), I can understand why because we love Kelly and we want to see her succeed. I don't think we need to obsess about the numbers given the stage of her career right now. However, I do think keeping an eye on the numbers can be fun and the numbers do ultimately play into how Atlantic works with Kelly moving forward. It's the music business after all, so they have to be able to justify the spend on Kelly's projects if there's no significant ROI. So downstream, it impacts the type of marketing and promo and budgets for her releases for future albums. If the demand for music from Kelly is low, then that signals to Kelly (and her team) that she doesn't need to put out music that regularly, which also impacts us as fans who want to continue getting new material from her. Just my 2 cents! Either way, I'm excited to see what people's feedback is about the new music at the birthday event next week and what other promo might be lined up leading up to the album release in late June!

Oooo if we're ranking 1st singles.... I would say these would be mine based on a mix of personal preference, how I think they represent their respective albums, the quality of the songs themselves and hit factor: My Life Would Suck Without You Underneath The Tree Miss Independent Catch My Breath Love So Soft Never Again Mine (although this will likely change once I have more time with the song and when I get to hear the album in full) Breakaway Mr. Know It All Heartbeat Song Christmas Isn't Cancelled (Just You)

I still can't believe she essentially ignored the global market outside of the US during the MOL era. She did a few performances initially for LSS and MOL in the UK at the beginning of the era, but after that there was nothing and she didn't even bother promoting MOL in Australia. It was pretty disappointing considering MOL as an album was so good and deserved more international promo.
