are you serious? you guys are SO desperate for taylor to do badly. a song that reaches #1 for multiple weeks and has one of the highest one-week streams of any song is definitely not an underperformance. omfg.

LWYMMD hits #1 on Hot 100
i don't understand people who say these things. remix or not, people were still interested in the song, and it wasn't one of those remixes that was entirely different from the original either (yeah i'm looking at you J Lo). i guess it's not ideal, but i don't think we should call it a ploy. also i don't see how featuring justin (as a huge male pop star of the moment) is any different from featuring boyz II men (as a huge male group pop star of the moment; remember that boyz II men had multiple #1s in the 90s that lasted more than 10 weeks) i do think i actually would've preferred uptown funk to tie the record rather than this, though, because i can't remember any song that felt as big as it did in my time (but i might just be biased because i love uptown funk). still, it's hard to deny that despacito was incredibly popular on a scale that most songs aren't.

LWYMMD hits #1 on Hot 100
no, shape of you and humble were solo, and several others in 2016 were as well. i think he meant by a solo, unaccompanied woman.

LWYMMD hits #1 on Hot 100
84.4m??? that's insane. i knew she'd debut at #1 and have high streams but that's incredible.

Tidal may not report Meek's streams
...but a lot of other artists had big hype too, and it didn't happen to them. that's literally the point being made. and beyonce's pure sales were huge with lemonade too, which wasn't true for jay. that's why her figure is more believable.

HDD Final: #1 DJ Khaled 150k SPS; #2 ID 148k SPS
i'm pretty sure it's not even possible to count that (or at least not easy enough to do for every single album out every week)

Billboard Charts (June 18-24, 2017)
it was worse than this in 2014 though, so it's not that new of a thing
-
Billboard Charts (June 18-24, 2017)
also billboard made a minor mistake. this is despacito's seventh week at #1 in sales, not its sixth. it was #1 in sales for one week before it hit the top of the main chart and has been #1 in sales in every week it's been on top.

Billboard Charts (June 18-24, 2017)
not another increase in streaming i can't believe how huge this is and it's definitely gonna be on top for a long time unless something completely extraordinary happens

Billboard Charts (June 4-10, 2017)
this isn't true. the sales of singles (at least the ones in the top 10) are higher at the beginning of the year. if you pay attention you'll see that the sales figures of summer #1s tend to be lower than in the earlier parts of the year.
