? Wicked's 2k17 Year End Thingy | #1 SHOW REVEALED
Not surprised to see The Leftovers at its only deserving spot! Great Top 10 overall and I'm happy to see you loved ‘A Prayer for Mads Sweeney’, as well. It was absolutely beautiful. Finding Frances is nothing short of brilliant, good #1 for episodes. Happy to see BoJack so high as well, I seem to remember you hadn't caught up on the third season last year yet. I said this already but Legion, meh to me. And while The Handmaid's Tale had a variety of missteps, especially during the middle of the season, there was almost nothing that felt as poignant or important in tv this year and that e1-e3 punch is one of the best ever.

Glad you've caught up with H&CF!! That's a PERFECT Top 3 Drama and mine is the exact same, give or take a switch between H&CF or Twin Peaks but I don't know myself because it's way too close and I'm kind of glad I don't have to decide. Legion would never even be remotely close to being this high for me but what do I know. Your top 3 comedy hmm? OK, amazing top 2! And while Nathan's season was pretty perfect and the finale knocked it out of the park, as a season I wouldn't put it above some others you put it over due to its inherent structural/cohesive flaws. I definitely think some of the other shows right behind Nathan on your list are superior. Glad to see Search Party s2 high, as well. It was a phenomenal feat to justify another outing and make it feel so organic, essential and actually not make me doubt it as a long-running series, at all.

Playa Playa's Best of 2017
Very surprised to see The Crown above Big Little Lies and The Deuce tbh. It always remains just shy of greatness despite some standalone episodes of greatness, and those character and focus inconsistencies... but they're all good and Foysus is is nothing but brilliant.

Good spot for ST. American Vandal I slept on for a long time but finally caught up on a few weeks ago and it was a great surprise. It moved from parody to drama so sneakily but never lost its pointed satire and really worked so perfectly because we were actually weirdly invested in the character's stakes (or I was). I think a second season could work but I'd want a whole new setting with a whole new cast and I guess that's not what they're going to do nn I didn't finish Curb yet ff and Samurai Jack was amazing, thanks for making me watch it!

Stranger Things is still good and surprisingly pulled off the season two hurdle but I think next season will make it or break it. Mindhunter was good! American Gods YES at what you said about the first season. Yet, TOO BAD Fuller is gone and with him like half the cast so I'm not really putting in any hope for the next season and I was so excited to see what he does with it next At least now he can fully dedicate himself to Hannibal s4 since the SoL filming rights will be up for purchase soong Sarah Gadon is a STAR! And Better Call Saul

The unintended SHADE I want to but I won't be able to make it! I don't have enough posts to make a thread on here anymore And besides, I was living in the US for half a year and then didn't have time to prepare at least a little bit like I usually do which is sad because this was such a great year for television but I'm confident to be back next year! Mainly it's just I won't have enough posts to make a thread ff

Oh bae, ****ing slay me, I couldn't agree more wit most of what you said. Shameless opening episodes this season really were the show's best in years and made me hopeful, along with last season's sincerity and willingness to change, that we might hit some sort of late-game gold mine but LOL, we should have known better. Dear White People, the movie, sucks! The show is good and Barry's episode is one of the best ones this year. Mr Robot really did have its best season! Poor everyone with a hive-mind who missed it! Silicon Valley IS going in circles BUT that makes sense in context of the tech industry that keeps chasing new inventions and discoveries and has to drop the old ones as soon as someone else comes first. HOWEVER, it's a show's job to not make that seem repetitive or justify its narrative repetition and still get some meat out of that. I did like this season but when you have something as brilliant as Halt and Catch Fire being able to capture the humane truth in why people in tech keep running in circles I'm not sure Silicon Valley has any excuses anymore but it still works as a comedy so.

Playa Playa's Best of 2017
I liked TGE for pushing the medium of tv further into direction-heavy territory rather than writing, but, to me, both storylines stand more as failed experiments rather than successful. It was too scattered and the messages felt buried underneath everything going on. Riley and her season pretty much stay unbothered. FEUD I liked, but it's very much a Ryan Murphy show, even if it's one of his better, more thorough works. It had too many inconsistencies in focus, and his dual-depiction of trying to sympathize both sides of the feud by arguing the industry-embedded misogyny as the root pitting these women against each other didn't always land or rang true by the way he wrote and depicted his women, which is a shame because there's a lot to say there and Sarandon (especially Sarandon) and Lange really helped fuel more depth into their characters than was always given (even if I'll fight anyone who thinks Lange wasn't just doing her same old, tired shtick, but I'll give her the finale). But I think this spot is pretty good for it. Fargo, well. Definitely didn't have much new to say at all after those first two seasons. It's (mostly) greatly executed but it played more like a strong tune he's played before and better rather than really pushing his boundaries and as if Hawley actually knew that and tried hiding that beneath different storytelling gimmicks or visual ones. At least those stylistic tools were still daring, we got some good performances even if MEW was the only one really given enough to chew on and up to the task of defusing Fargo's stereotypes. + overall, there are still some stellar moments (or even episodes) that prove this season isn't as bad, or shouldn't have been as overlooked, as it was by the end. I like viewing it as a three-season statetement in which an argument is made in that our world's karmic justice and moral compasses are increasingly getting out of balance over time and why that is (economics, etc); time chronologically: second season has a clear re-adjustment of justice by the end; the first does so as well, albeit in an anti-climactic and much darker maner, and the third leaves the ambiguity of justice up until the end which makes the final shot of the season also a pretty perfect summation of the entire series' message should the third really remain the show's last season ever.

Playa Playa's Best of 2017
Agreed on all. I refuse to talk about Game of Thrones, the heartbreak of the loss of the old show is still to fresh and too big in me and you're absolutely right - just after the sixth season proved the show would be able to find a strong balance without the books, ugh.

Oh, and watching She's Gotta Have It in the next days before this year ends!

Playa Playa's Best of 2017
I think each run of Catastrophe is always almost pitch-perfect as a contained set of episodes, it's incredible. But then, at the end of the year, I agree with you in how, in context, it kind of pales which I find a bummer because I want to rank it high whenever I see it but then other shows just come along and kind of triumph.

Playa Playa's Best of 2017
American Crime, agreed. It was good and they took some pretty daring risks, like completely finishing main storylines in the middle of the season. Unfortunately, that came back to bite them in the ass. Broad City was muuuuch better than last year. The political climate inclusion this time didn't feel shoe-horned in but like a necessary part of their vision and voices. I loved it tbh. I'm done defending YTW. This was a better season (even though less impactful to me, personally) but you said it, too scattered lol. The fight was a great idea but now we're back at the old place and explaining repetitiveness is hard for shows to pull off well. Silicon Valley, well lol, good position.

Just finally drop The Walking Dead already, I mean we can only go through so much repetitiveness and uninspired, bored drama disguised behind tacky action.
