Success but because of it I need a break from Charli. It's getting into a territory that's no longer cool or exciting.

Success comes in many different forms. It's not all about charts. That's just part of it.

Your first mistake is believing that success, popularity, and impact is all quantified in chart positions

Exactly. The stan world will truly heal when stans realize that charts aren't the end all be all.

It was a success for Charli when you consider how her recent projects have preformed + if Kamala wins BRAT will be cemented in the history books.

Can you not generalize all the eyelashers? She's one person.

It does feel overhyped to me. It just feels like a more accessible version of ARTPOP, and album I never liked that shared similar levels of overproduction.

I know yall hate it when we say it about Beyonce, but cultural impact and relevancy absolutely matters.

Not to shade Taylor, she herself is a cultural juggernaut and eclipses the impact of just about every living person on the planet except possibly world leaders in the most powerful nations. But TTPD has such small cultural impact, it almost feels like it flopped, but you'd have no argument that it did cause of the absurd success in sales.

Brat is by far Charli's most successful album which is already a huge win for her, but I would argue it has one of the biggest cultural impacts for an album this year, which just amplifies the success. If I'm being honest, I don't really know what other album has that level of impact this year except maybe Chappell's?

She went from being like the 400th most listened to artist to the 56th (right now) in the span of like 2-3 months

it was huge for Charli, she's never really done "MPG" numbers and this era she came pretty damn close. The album spent 3 (4?) weeks in the top 10 in the US, the Billie feat was a huge moment, the cultural impact was everywhere even before the "Kamala is brat" stuff which took it too far and made it a bit cringe but is still undeniable impact. That stuff is all unprecedented for Charli

oh and it's more acclaimed than just about every smash album from an MPG

It's an objective success on every level, to suggest otherwise is just being an obtuse hater

BRAT is the biggest album of the year despite how it doesn't have a bunch of Hot 100 hits or isn't selling like hotcakes. Literally everyone knows "Brat Summer" and has heard Apple.

Apple quite literally has less total streams than most non-single album tracks on albums like TTPD, HMHAS, etc. Y'all can't be serious with those takes...

As someone who loves Charli and loves the album, it's deserved.

As someone who loooves techno and boiler rooms…..let me put it this way; if it came on in that environment (and my friends and I didn't already know the songs) it wouldn't be our favourite set of the night.

It's a great pop album, and I'm sure it could be a stepping stone for people who are just getting into boiler rooms, but it's still very much a pop album. It's like rave-lite. Kind of like how white girls think Berghain sounds like the Challengers soundtrack.

But it's still a great pop album, influenced by club/dance music, that isn't done in a cheesy, recent-David-Guetta, dance-pop way.

'Guess' was always the standout to me. I feel like she should lean into that 2007 D.I.Y blog-house sound. It was very reminiscent of Luciana, Bodyrox, Nadia Oh, etc — and it comes super naturally to her. Alternatively, it would be sick if she brought progressive house back.

This album transcends success. It's about cult following and pop culture impact in this example. You could have an album that breaks hundreds of records and collects countless certifications, but it might not be as remembered or culturally relevant.

You're so right. She didn't sell 5 billion copies in 2 days. Sounds like a flop to me.

In all seriousness, I know damn well if Brat did the usual Charli numbers we would have threads screaming that she deserves more. Y'all love the idea of female artists succeeding and breaking out of their niche until it actually happens. We're gonna get Is Sabrina Carpenter overhyped threads in a couple of months, I can feel it already. She's doing great. There's no need to try to dial down the success she's having right now. The fans are just happy for her.

I do have to admit that I hate the verses on 'I think about it all the time' though.

I know she wanted it to sound confessional, like a text message to a friend, but it just sounds like my niece when she makes up songs whenever she's doing something random, e.g.

"I am walking over to the garden to pick some flowers for mummy because she's my mummy and I love her. I am picking the flowers. I am almost done picking the flowers. I have picked the flowers. I am going to go and give them to her now. There's my dog, his name is Archie 🎶"

Some people liked that though. It's not for me, so I just don't listen to the songs that are a bit like that.

Well considering its (over)hype it's not really a success in terms of numbers and chart position

but for her standards it is

she was doing 7 mil monthly listeners during HIFN vs 50 during brat, brat definitely put her on the map. she needs to keep the momentum going and she will be a cemented as a household name.

It's successful for her standards, but not commercially.

And it's not overhyped. The album is really good. It deserves the acclaim

Both, it's very successful but also overhyped in terms of success. But I can't blame her stans who have been waiting for her to have mainstream success for over 10 years for hyping her up now. Only the bandwagon success stans are annoying
