Weld_E Posted April 21 Posted April 21 I'm curious about how the judges criteria for this round. Would the scores be based on whether the lyrics match the instrumental? How will you know at what parts of the instrumental the lyrics are meant to be sung and in what note/ way? I'm just worried that the judges wont be able to envision the song the way I do. 1

We're not judging your lyrics based on if we think your lyrics could be sung along to the instrumental. We really just want it to serve as inspiration somehow. You could have a highly orchestral song and have lyrics with metaphors about being a performer on a stage or a song with tropical vibes and have lots of summery imagery. Hell, if you wanted you could have it juxtapose like a super upbeat sounding song with lyrics that are sad if you take a closer look. Ultimately, what you write will always be what we focus on, with or without an instrumental. 1 2

As Hug indicated, the challenge is more to take inspiration from an instrumental rather than literally writing to track. I think that's the most important thing to understand. You can also write to track if you wish, but most importantly we're looking for lyrics that complement the sonic experience the instrumental you choose is providing. For example, we wouldn't expect you to write a country storytelling song over a hip hop instrumental, even though this has technically been done successfully with songs like "Old Town Road". Without being able to hear the final product I would strongly recommend sticking to very strong connections (such as a song with tropical vibes having lots of summery imagery, as Hug indicated) and focusing on making the lyrics top-notch. Remember, there's a difference between thinking outside of the box and straying too far from the source material. Please, if anyone else has any questions, feel free to ask! There's still another day until the typical 5-day deadline so if you're uncertain about any aspect of this challenge, don't wait until the challenge is almost over to seek clarification. Good luck all, looking forward to seeing some great submissions! 1

You still can if you wish, it just has to be an unused instrumental.

She used to play this to me when I went to visit her conservatory after church every second Sunday. I have beautiful memories of her with this song. I just shed a tear. Thank you. 1
Aurora Posted April 23 Author Posted April 23 It's time to present the top three of last round's Judge's Choice challenge with their bonus prizes: the Hit Tokens! I've reviewed the requests from our trio of top writers for the week, and done my best to grant them for embossment. Celebrating a second place success with "Village Drums": @Prisoner Here is your Silver Hit Token embossed with your ATRL username and a pair of village drums. Congratulations! This is your first Hit Token of S6, and third Hit Token of Golden Hit overall! Also celebrating a second place success with "Battery": @Legend E Here is your Silver Hit Token embossed with your ATRL username and Kelly Clarkson (Meaning of Life era). Congratulations! This is your third Hit Token of S6, and eleventh Hit Token of Golden Hit overall! Celebrating a first place finish with "!!!Cyberspacecutie^-^pie:3": @OreGuy Here is your Golden Hit Token embossed with your ATRL username and Lady Gaga. Congratulations! This is your first Hit Token of S6, and third Hit Token of Golden Hit overall! I hope you all enjoy your Hit Tokens as much as I did making them! Feel free to use them as a forum avatar if you wish, or just let them be a reminder of your time in Golden Hit—ultimately the choice is yours, and if for whatever reason you are dissatisfied with your token or simply wish to change the embossed graphic/text please contact me and I can arrange a remake. Remember, the top three writers of each round will earn their own Hit Token just like the three above, so make sure to submit each week for the best chance to claim one of these bonus prizes. 2 1
Invisibility Posted April 23 Posted April 23 Currently juggling like 4 different artist options, and really wanting to write to track and make it work because it feels like a big but rewarding challenge 1

ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted April 25 ATRL Moderator Posted April 25 @Hug Hi! I have some questions about the AI-generated songs. Well, mainly, I was curious about what prompts did you use. I feel the websites are not doing exactly what I want them to. Did you also enter instruments in the prompt? Also, what is the best way to use the extend function? I am guessing in the intro and outro. Sorry, for being a bit vague but I think getting a bit more insight on how it properly works might help me a bit more (or I'll just end up using a Youtube instrumental). I wanted a Xenomania-inspired bop but it's given me I Dare You by Kelly Clarkson-esque songs Though, I may also go the singer-songwriter route. 1

Here's the prompts I used for each song, both on Udio and Suno: I think it helps to not only add genres, but moods/vibes you want as well. If you're using Udio, you can put an artist tag in when generating a song. Behind the scenes it converts that artist tag into general genre tags, but if there's an artist that has a specific ~vibe~ you're going for, that could also potentially help. For Suno, I recommend not using the generate instrumental button, but instead "writing" custom lyrics but only having the structure tags. When making the instrumentals in Suno, my lyrics looked basically like this: Spoiler [verse] [pre-chorus] [chorus] [verse] [prechorus] [chorus] [bridge] [chorus] If you have a specific instrument you want in your song, you can try adding it as a tag. Alternatively, some instrument solos can be tagged on Udio (at least, maybe Suno can do it too) by adding an additional tag, such as [guitar solo], [saxophone solo], etc. in the lyrics section (while leaving the actual lyrics blank ofc) If this didn't quite give you what you were looking for, or if I ended up bringing up even more questions, you can go ahead and ask something else! 2

Thank you so much, Hug! That helps a lot. For now, I like Suno a bit more than Udio. The latter seemed a bit confusing to me with the 30 second songs that would generate, while I think Suno generates a song until you stop it? I am not sure, I need to play with both a bit more. However, I see you pointed out some nice advantages about Udio. I did put some artists in Suno too and it kinda worked too (you have to find loopholes around the name). Regarding the lyrics in Suno, that's a nice idea about the structure tags. I don't want to write my own lyrics and have Suno make the song for me as it would go against the point of the challenge. But I think the structure is a very cool idea, as it would help with the song sounding a bit more structured. I will also maybe try the instrumental solos in Suno too (not sure rn if I want them, but cute to check anyway). I have two or three cute songs on Suno for now I believe. I need to think what to decide (don't think I'll go for the Xenomania-vibes anymore; I feel the websites generate better simple melodies rather than something meant to be too complicated + I feel my lyrical content would go better with something more simple).
Prisoner Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Actually finished writing my song like days ago but too scared to submit and still doing minor editings this one is quite risky, even for me
Prisoner Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Changed my song title to a more appropriate one @Judges please refer to the google doc for the updated title 1
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted April 28 ATRL Moderator Posted April 28 So I have something! It's a bit simple but I think it works quite well. I would like to have another look over it so I'd submit a bit later today if that's fine EDIT: nvm, I just sent. Might resend later if possible, but let me stop being so unsure. 1
