Dua Lipa - 'Radical Optimism'

She spilled about the critics comparing these songs to FN. Especially Houdini (the best one) which is distinct from her own work AND everyone else's out atm. It deserved way better.

No idea what to expect from the rest of the album but it doesn't.. really feel like it's coming out next week. Maybe she has plans to hustle after release but the campaign has been weird. Maybe she's happy sitting in her lane to avoid overexposure, who knows. I trust that the album will be great.

Tbf I felt this way with every release this year so far. I was surprised when it was Eternal Sunshine release week. I was surprised when Cowboy Carter's time came, but I guess the track list built some hype. I was even surprised when it was time for TTPD.

I don't think Dua did a great job getting the hype ready for this era, but no pop girl really has lately.

Judging music by how much of an "event" it is and by how well it does on the charts, is such a sad way to enjoy it..

I literally can't imagine having so little personal, genuine input in deciding what music I like :katie:

End of an Era?

From interviews has Dua mentioned much about it? It is the album opener, it sets the stage, it comes before Houdini and Training Season. I am most excited to hear this song :duca:

This is all we know about the song, I think.

So far, Dua has talked a lot about 'Anything For Love' and 'Happy For You'

She has briefly teased 'Maria' and 'These Walls'

And, she has mentioned 'Falling Forever' and 'Whatcha Doing'

The only song Dua has not discussed or mentioned yet is 'French Exit'

Quote

End Of An Era [3:16]

  • We went through quite a few verses. We started with the production, then the melodies, but I was like, "This isn't right." So, I called off that session, and we left Kevin and Danny to work on the track because we're hitting a wall. We came back and listened with fresh ears, and it gave us a whole lease of energy. - Zach Sang Show
  • 'End Of An Era' being the free falling, the "Is this my happy ending? I don't want to come to my senses". - Zach Sang Show
  • 'End Of An Era' which is the one that starts the record, is this hopeful, manifestation song. It is really fun and dance-y. It's one of my favorites on the record. - Rolling Stone "Dua Lipa's Road to 'Radical Optimism"
  • 'End Of An Era', because it was just the maddest one when we were mixing it. I listened to that one over and over again. - Rolling Stone Dua when asked which songs that she goes back most often to

Can't wait for the album. I'm so proud to see Dua growing as an artist and becoming more comfortable taking control of and discussing her craft:clap3:

Vinyl Side A

End Of An Era [3:16]

  • We went through quite a few verses. We started with the production, then the melodies, but I was like, "This isn't right." So, I called off that session, and we left Kevin and Danny to work on the track because we're hitting a wall. • 'End Of An Era', because it was just the maddest one when we were mixing it. I listened to that one over and over again. - Rolling Stone Dua when asked which songs that she goes back most often to

Houdini [3:05]

Training Season [3:29]

These Walls [3:37]

  • "It's funny cuz you know when it's just two people in a room and you're having an argument or going through a breakup or whatever. The only witness you have is the wall. Personifying them, giving them like a personality in itself is is interesting because that room knows you better than than anyone. It knows who you are in the silence and knows you're with the person that you're with and knows all those things. It's really powerful so these walls is a special one" - Zach Sang Show
  • "These Walls' was one that I kept coming back to. - Rolling Stone Dua when asked which songs that she goes back most often to
  • One song juxtaposes light harmonies with a tumultuous portrait of a relationship coming to an end: "We call it love but hate it here/Did we really mean it when we said forever?" she sings. - Rolling Stone "Dua Lipa Is Done Being a Mystery"

Whatcha Doing[3:18]

  • Written after 'Illusion', and 'Happy For You'
  • Bouncing Groove - Music Week

Vinyl Side B

French Exit [3:21] - We have gotten nothing so far

Illusion [3:08]

Falling Forever [3:43]

  • Last song wrote for the album - Zach Sang Show
  • Manifestation Song - Zach Sang Show

Lyrics teased at Zach Sang Show:

I don't believe that every flame has to get colder

I hope the feelings that you give me carry over

Till tomorrow and beyond

How long? How long?

Can it just keep getting better

Can we keep falling forever

Anything For Love [2:21]

  • 'Anything for Love' is a personality piece, just really letting you into a studio session.  - Rolling Stone Dua when asked which songs that she goes back most often to
  • 'Anything for Love' finds Dua muttering about salted licorice at the beginning of the song, which moves to a tender piano into euphoric house territory. -Music Week interview reported by Dua Lipa Hungary
  • "We were all on the hunt for something unique, searching for weird, fun and experimental while at the same time making a pop record" says Dua - Music Week DLH
  • We live in such a fast world where it feels like things are easy to dispose off, so people don't really fight for things they really care about - Zach Sang Show

Maria [3:07]

  • 'Maria', it's a fun one, but it feels very mature to me, in the sense of growing and seeing relationships from a different perspective. I love that one. - Rolling Stone Dua when asked which songs that she goes back most often to
  • 'Maria' is really about being grateful to the ex and saying thank you for that, because we all grow, we all learn, and now I have this person who's just meant for me. - Zach Sang Show

Happy For You [4:05]

  • "Happy For You, being able to see something for what it is with a very clear perspective, knowing that it wasn't meant for me, and being happy where you're at, allows me to move on to whatever is meant for me." - Zach Sang Show
  • "Happy For You, being able to see how much you've grown, being like 'Oh, I can move on from a real place of love and respect because of my past' or someone in my past." - Zach Sang Show
  • "And 'Happy for You', which it ends on, is very self-reflective. [By the end], I've done a full 180. Throughout this whole record, I see myself grow so much — my perspective changes. There's no leftover feeling of sadness or hurt. I'm grateful for every experience because it brought me to where I am today."  - Rolling Stone "Dua Lipa's Road to 'Radical Optimism"
  • But another highlight — one of Lipa's favorites on the record — is all about maturity and healing. The dreamy, midtempo track plays out like an updated take on Gwen Stefani's "Cool." In the lyrics, she compliments her ex's new relationship, calling his new girlfriend "really pretty," and she finds peace as he moves on: "I must have loved you more than I ever knew.… I'm not mad/I'm not hurt/You got everything you deserve." - Rolling Stone "Dua Lipa Is Done Being a Mystery"
  • It's a psychedelic world that was very vulnerable and honest, yet at the same time organic in its musicality. It's both danc-y and personal, and I think it's experimental, even with the samples[on album RO]. There's that tremolo of Kevin's voice in 'Happy for You' is something I absolutely love, along with the sound of birds—it transports you to a completely different place. When we wrote that song, I knew it would be my album closer. It was about the texture of it, it felt like I had matured and seen myself grow as I was wroting that song. - Zach Sang Show

Houdini >>>> Training Season = Illusion

I love three singles so far and apparently whole album is in the same level of quality which makes me excited, cause to have 11 equality good cohesive tracks would be amazing.

For me Training Season - Illusion - Houdini

1 week til RO. The album can't come soon enough. Unfortunately I hated Houdini & Training Season but absolutely loved Illusion so if the rest of the tracks are anything like that song, the biggest collapse is coming  :jonnycat:

Not a huge fan of the singles so far but i dont hate them either. Dua's albums usually have some bops so i'm sure it'll have something for me in there

French Exit is my most anticipated track

I've only listened to Houdini and Training Season. Loved both! Particularly, Training Season is my personal favourite out of the two. Haven't listened to Illusion yet, waiting for the album to drop to listen to everything all at once. I actually haven't listened to H and TS in weeks, so I can go into the album with fresh ears. From what Dua has said in interviews, all of the songs on ''are completely different but there's a throughline that connects them'' and that guy she did an interview with also said that no two songs are alike, which is kind of to be expected. All tracks on FN are also completely different from each other.

I'm sure there's going to be something for everyone on the album. Give it time. FN was more commercially appealing than Radical Optimism, that could by one of the reason many people aren't connect with them. It's clear that Dua is prioritising quality and originality over commercial appeal.

Okay but why does the blue vinyl eat up the deluxe blue/white vinyl? :biblio: It'd make sense for the deluxe/more expensive one to be prettier, right? Not Dua scamming me like that!

Singles are amazing

Houdini > Illusion >>> Training Season

Reading through the track descriptions has me SHAKING :jonny5:I'm so excited. FN your time is UP.

I love all 3 songs. TS and Illusion are mega pop bops, PERFECT for the gym. However, Houdini is definitely a masterpiece for me. It's my 2nd favorite song ever by her.
